WARNING TO ALL VISITORS TO THE GEELONG BOARD. You are - for the most part - welcome to discuss the current list management & trading situation at Geelong. However, this is our board, so be respectful of the home board posters & don't inflame arguments (make your points succinctly and move on). And if you're just here to troll, then don't bother or you will be enjoying a holiday

Seriously he is 20 and will continue to improve why would you get rid of him. He is one of the hardest working players on our list. Just stupid really
Maybe look at breurs stats in his first 2 years at the club, played bad in finals and his name was stamped not to play much again, I see so many similarities between both players, happy to be proven wrong though

Except for the way they actually play football.

Trading Miers is a chapter from the theatre of the absurd......still a bit to learn but on his way to 200 games + as he matures.

As someone said earlier, footballers like him dont grow on trees....he's a lock in virtually everyone's best 22...

I'm extremely bullish about Cooper (and SDK aswell), I reckon he's gunna be a star for us.
Just needs some decent continuity of VFL games to work on his game a little bit.

Has that aura of success about him, dedicated talented and very tough.
He should put on some size this pre season
and probably play a few games at least next year. Genuine big mid coming through.
And SDK, it's just a matter of time, l believe he was playing fwd late last season and booted quite a few goals.

Didn't he make the U22 All Australian team?

Why not compare

Menegola 13 Disposals, 2Goals, 5 marks, 0 Tackles, 2 I50's, 306 MG, 1 Goal assist, 84.6% DEF

Miers 14 Disposals, 1.1 Goals, 5 marks, 2 Tackles, 4 I50's, 247 MG, 1 Goal assist, 85.7% DEF
[/QUOTE

Season 21.5/13.5 please BB, no comparo.

So Ratcat are you making an arguement for the comparison of the GF performances of Miers and Menegola or that Menegola underperformed in the GF

I think GWS will come in with a list and Miers will be on it, then it's up to our management to try talk a player to GWS, if we want Cameron, or we walk away. GWS won't want just picks, for a 2 time Coleman medalist, the most games played at the club and most goals, with 2-4 years left in him. Those guys don't grow on trees, it would like us trading hawk 4 years ago, for a couple of picks in 20s. Wellsy doesn't deal with clubs to rip them off, he's a fair operator and if we get Cameron we'll need to pay accordingly. So the club has to make a decision is Cameron worth it? My answer is no, with our guys coming out and saying we will not sell the farm, clubs will be lining up and trying to get Cameron to change his mind. Worst case we keep all our first rounders and get some games into dekoning.
Cameron is only a 1 time Coleman medalist

As for Hawkins, there are some on here a few years ago (probably around 4) that wanted to trade him for Michael Walters as Hawkins best was apparently behind him

And GWS are welcome to come to the trade table, request multiple first round picks & have a list of Geelong players they want included in the trade, but it's not up to our list management team to talk to those players & their managers and convince one of them to take up the offer. If GWS wants Geelong player, then let the GWS list management team do the right thing - they need to be the ones to approach the players managers, to enquire if anyone is open to moving and then go from there

And again, it's highly doubtful Miers would be high on their priority list as they don't need small forwards

I heard on the radio this morning the Geelong had said it wont trade it's round 1 picks. I don't know where the quote came from, it was just a snippet on the news.

I cant say that makes sense ... they will have to trade something..... unless they are just willing to move immediately to DEFCON1

This is an article that was in the Geelong Addy on Oct 22

GREATER Western Sydney could risk losing Jeremy Cameron for nothing in the draft if the Giants stand on their heels in demanding a suitable trade with Geelong.

The Giants want to strike a deal for Cameron (above) in a trade with Geelong and will either demand a quality young senior player or multiple early draft picks.

But the Cats have no plans to trade for Cameron and instead believe pick No 10 as free agency compensation is adequate under the AFL’s rules.

It means Cameron, 27, faces a nervous wait over the next fortnight as the two clubs prepare for talks over the deal.

If the two clubs can’t agree on the free agency transfer or a trade deal, Cameron would be forced to enter the pre-season draft to find his way to Geelong in a move that could raise the ire of the AFL Players’ Association.

It would be a strong stance from GWS to let Cameron go for nothing in the draft but Gold Coast did similar last year over Jack Martin (Carlton) to make a strong statement after a string of player departures.

The Giants have lost Cameron and Zac Williams (Carlton ), Jackson Hately (Adelaide) and are still trying to re-sign Jye Caldwell and Xavier O’Halloran in the face of interest from St Kilda and Essendon.

Cameron has given excellent service to the Giants over nine years and has been widely considered one of the top few key forwards in the game over the duration of his 171-game career despite falling out of form this season. But it remains unlikely at this stage that the Giants would do Cameron any favours and grant an easy passage for him to the Cats for a single free agency compensation pick after his decision to walk out on the club for family and lifestyle reasons.

The Giants will bank on the Cats’ excellent record of completing player trades, which included sending premiership champion Steve Johnson to the Giants for a fifth-round pick the Cats were never going to use in 2016.

Geelong previously struck a trade deal to land free agent Patrick Dangerfield in 2015 and GWS is adamant it is intent on going down the same trade path with Cameron. But the difference in the Dangerfield scenario was Geelong had an earlier pick (No 9) than the direct compensation pick (No 13) would have been for Adelaide.

I don't know what people see in Witherden. We may as well stick with Constable if we were after a similar type.
This could be one of the stranger comparisons going around.

Agreed. Not many seem to agree though!
I do. Good user off half back.
Where do we sign.

The Giants cant get past the math. They have signed Cogs to 7 years at $1 million a year, they have Kelly with an 8 year option on similar money that starts at the end of 2021, they will need to sign Taranto to $750-850,000 a year post 2022 to keep him, and they have Greene on anywhere between $800,000-$1 million a year until 2024.

They simply cant afford to keep Cameron at $1 million a year. They will back off and agree to take the FA compo (if that is still an option) or they will accept a first rounder and whatever player we want to send up there and who agrees to go.

Nah.

Id really love to know what the Giants think their team will look like when they are paying half the cap to 6 players. What a colossal fu** up by them to not take the compo pick.

Let’s be honest we will probably end up giving them 2 first rounders, maybe throw in a fringe player. So it might not end up being a fk up by them.

Trump - Biden and the Geelong merry go round

Collingwood is in chaos, GWS might as fold as everyone wants out or a spare million or two

Geelong, well well. Smith is in the team to release Blitz from the wing, as he has been found wanting in finals. They might want to use his through the middle more, if superfluous to Scarlo's needs. With Menegola and Smith on the wings, there are very few wings who can keep up. Thats players like Gaff, but he lacks the strength of these two.

Higgins replaces Ablett, elite delivery. He is a step up on Close and Atkins. Might be old but worth his weight. In the GF one GA with a busted shoulder showed how elite he is despite being 37.
