WARNING TO ALL VISITORS TO THE GEELONG BOARD. You are - for the most part - welcome to discuss the current list management & trading situation at Geelong. However, this is our board, so be respectful of the home board posters & don't inflame arguments (make your points succinctly and move on). And if you're just here to troll, then don't bother or you will be enjoying a holiday

One pick and two rookie upgrades - Close and Okunbor?
If Okunbor is moved to the main list that would be very good news about his recovery from the Achilles injury and progress overall
Yeah I was amazed to see him playing scratch matches this year. I'm hoping they stream a few vfl matches this year. There's a lot to check in on

I read something about the pies doing a massive salary cap dump with an eye on next year's FA.
Any ideas on who's available?
Surely after the way these players have been treated you'd think twice about going to the pies?

They are talking about Merrett from Ess...but there are others. Bont at Dogs for eg.

That is not the intent of my post, i respinded to ..

If we have one pick you'd surely go for a KPD from one of the state leagues?

In my mind we have coverage to some degree for KPP witb Kruger and SDek ....
Maybe but the fact neither has played a game makes me nervous. One has played majority forward in the twos and the other looks still too skinny though a summer in the gym may change that.

I wonder if it makes more sense to try and trade up next year. In different circumstances giving up three first rounders for Cameron would seem excessive, but half the draft pool hasn't played footy this year. Makes it a much bigger punt than usual.

Unless there is someone we really like ..that slides in draft ..I think we hold

Thinking we won't hear more about Steven for a few days - his spot on the list wasn't really relevant to the events of trade week, but more relevant now that we know list sizes

The club has advised Narkle, Jarvis & Zuthrie that they'd like to retain them but it depends on list sizes - the club will now be looking at things, strongly encouraging Steven to seriously consider his future & if he's 100% committed to football, otherwise the club would probably prefer to use his spot for one of those younger guys

Ah, good summary. I forgot about the list lodgement dates.

Surely they hold on to Narkle - he's got the most value of the three there and wasn't even looked at during the trade period. I hope we hold onto him anyway

Eddie literally said this morning when talking about their mess.

"All we talk about is Collingwood. I mean we still haven't had one conversation about Geelong and whether they paid way to much for Cameron. I mean a million bucks for a 29 year old. Sold their future"

He is literally a flog of the very highest order. Answered no questions, blindly said the club was right and tried to kick under clubs under the bus. Pathetic.

He's hit all points there.
Shameless deflection
Aged him up (he's 27)
Exaggerated his contract amount
Thrown in a lazy "sold the future" troll.

In relation to our weakest role coverage ..I feel we have more KPP coverage than ruck
Yeah but I think we can be competitive even if we're rolling Fort through there.

We are going to need an empty forward line next year to give Cameron and Hawk space. When it rebounds out it'll have speed on it. If it ends up we have a kid too skinny on say Lynch, or a guy who hasn't played enough with the defenders to know how to block up space in front of a Kennedy we would be in much more trouble I feel.

Just made up horseshit. Simple fact is they overcooked their salary cap big time by paying average players superstar money. They had no choice but to move them on to get under the cap. It won't leave much in their cap for next year. They might be able to get someone in the 300-400 range. But that's about it. They aren't saving a million dollars to get a star player.

More deflection, trying to paint a picture that it wasn't incompetent management that caused their problems.

So the players we have brought in will play more than the players we have lost in 2021 ?
It’s a measure of quality.

Anyone think Collingwood would do the hail mary and offer Cripps say $2m a year and just blow anyone else out of the water? If that's their plan and they pulled it off, it would be no where near as bad.

The player I'd be targeting now is Oscar McDonald. Only 24. Fair chance to be a delisted free agent. Not a bad stop gap if we need a big defender. Also mature enough and young enough where (if he works out) he could be a part of the now and part of the future.

They had to clear out a heap of space just to fit under the cap. No way they have much money to throw at free agents. Might be able to get someone at the 300-400k level, but that's about it.

To me he is the type that might get drafted in mid season if there is a need.

Id be happy to just add a ruck ..even if its our only pick.

Narkle has to be the first one of those retained. Perhaps any players who come off the list might play with the VFL team. If the AFL insists on bringing down list sizes they should be making some better flexibility on active and inactive players. And building better connections with the teams vfl or equivalent team.
I’m really looking forward to the vfl coming back. I think the expanded comp will be good. And we should have a good team with a mix of young and experienced players.
