WARNING TO ALL VISITORS TO THE GEELONG BOARD. You are - for the most part - welcome to discuss the current list management & trading situation at Geelong. However, this is our board, so be respectful of the home board posters & don't inflame arguments (make your points succinctly and move on). And if you're just here to troll, then don't bother or you will be enjoying a holiday

Trolling again??? You're in no position to wear yet another infraction unless you're seeking a lengthy "holiday" over the New Year.

Some people never learn.
Is this a joke? He was absolutely horrible in the Grand Final. Statistically his 2nd worst game for Geelong. Not sure how you can argue otherwise.
Danger speaks very well and leads by example like no other player at Geelong that I can remember (aside from Joel). I think it would be a travesty if he wasn't the next captain.
Was shocking in the Grand Final has has let the club down in a number of finals.
He handles the pressure of attention as well as anyone.
Well, he does love the attention

Why does he deserve it?

To me he has already led the team for the last few years and just hasn't had the title to go with it. Deserves to at least be recognised officially as a Geelong captain, even if only for a short time. There is no other standout option that jumps out, so why not just choose the obvious.

Im not sure thats the issue to be honest.

Think it’s pretty relevant. When he’s held up as someone who always sets the example, you can’t ignore that he’s a not infrequent underperformer in finals, or that he plays for frees way too much when things aren’t going his way.

Not sure a captain staging for frees while going missing is the best look.

I wonder if anyone has told Selwood.

Couldn't disagree more. Don't think he deserves it at all. He was happy enough playing his formative years (eight of them in fact) in another state. See very little reason why he should get the captaincy on the wrong side of 30 - after a so-so year and poor finals series - other than blind superstar worship.

Who is your choice?
I like the idea of Blicavs .
Gives his max every week, and is a role model.

which player though? Duncan? Be nice if we had a young Joel at 23 in the waiting

Honestly i think long term cooper is the guy he screams leader to me but obviously thats a few years off.

The next 3 or so years after joel id assume it would either be danger or blitz/duncan/stewart.

Cooper?
Can't imagine him even getting game time next season.

Duncan maybe as first choice. Someone like Stewart next.

Harley should have taught everyone that we have no idea who the best choice is, and the days of the star player being automatically captain are (thankfully) long gone. Or at least should be.

It's also amazing how keen blind and uncritical individual worship has returned, after it took so long for the club to overcome it. It seems to be gleefully embraced.

UN Critical of what?
And your lack of appreciation of Blic as a player is evident in your post, yet with the Harley analogy, why not Blic?

Selwood and Dangerfield are by far the best captain options for the club in the short term. They both have amazing on field and off field leadership abilities. Can't see how that is individual worshipping as you put it, but just have to agree to disagree.

I just wish all our players could have as ordinary a year next year as Dangerfield did this year. Not his fault when he is positioned away from the play.

Dangerfield would be the least affected by the captain's role. Not sure of the other senior players names, especially Duncan. I think he would be adversely affected by it. Stewart has been getting attention more and more, it hasn't seemed to done anything to his footy. Blicavs is an interesting possibility. Would his footy improve or the opposite? Would captain duties take part of his attention and make him more instinctive; that could be a good thing :) or be a disaster.
Dangerfield IMO would be the easiest, safest short term choice.

He needs to be coached on some forward craft , one can rely on talent all the time... but maybe with Cameron here now he will be the third forward. All forwards rely on up field work... and we have been beaten around the ball in big games too often... if we give a forward enough supply and they fail to win enough 1o1 then they are not up to it it... my critism if Danger in the past was his kicking and he did that well in 2020. Perfect world we have enough quality forward that Danger only visits the forwardline.

The fact is Danger will be 31 in April 2021 , we probably need to think in terms of younger players unless he can replicate GAsr. Im hoping in 2021 Tarheny can show why we trade to get him.

Whether he should be the next captain is subjective but saying he had a so so year is real harsh, he was named All Australian captain.

Which proves the footy media are infatuated with superstars. He shouldn’t have been near that team on 2020 form. But because it’s a Geelong player and Dangerfield it’s accepted as proof.

Geelong players nominated three players for MVP. He wasn’t one of them.

You mean up forward too often? Agreed. He also had plenty of times in the middle where he had no impact either. That’s more concerning.

Top 10 in the coaches voting, I guess they are infatuated with Geelong and superstars too.
