I have no doubt that the bid for JUH will not come till around 5-8 which is crap but nothing anyone will do about it.

If Crows have pick 1 and 2 and don't bid with one of them we may as well just start letting clubs have academy/FS for free.

Because every year we are just going to get the same thing (Green last year) where clubs let players slip just incase they eventually get one and everyone lets that one slip to them.

Free! I wouldn't' go that far but it would be easy enough to put the brakes on when some clubs seem to be making out like bandits..and poor old us dont get anything boohoo (lol) ... Im totally against any system..till we can sort it ..then its great system. Seriously I suspect that the NGA will be looked at as part of the cost trim but if it doesnt then changes must be made. This years draft will probably push that.

Any player as good as Hawkins (FS) , Daniher, and NGA's like JUH. that are R1 material should be full cost.... a club will be happy enough to have them without any discount. That should be eliminated. Having dibs to them is enough. Second doubling up is something I'd look at before its an issue, Im not sure if it has happened yet but its probably only matter of time till a club gets two NGA player that are R1. That probably something that should be looked at....its bad enough when next year Collingwood will get the #1 pick ( early speculation) as a FS... if they had NGA as we'll... its distorts the distribution of talent too much.

Try not interpret a players agent doing their due diligence and asking other clubs what their client is worth on the market, with a players ACTUAL desire to leave a club. Vic media made it out Brad rocked up on GC's door with a bottle of Grange begging to be traded. As an Adelaide supporter you tend to get a 6th sense for players wanting to (frequently) leave the club, but both Crouch brothers have made it pretty clear they both love living in Adelaide. As Brad said yesterday, his preference is to stay, and will only leave if he's pushed out.
He won't get a million, as no one is going to offer him close to that, but a million p/s isn't what is required for the Crows to get Band 1 comp. Considering his age, and that he's a year younger that Rockliff was when he went (a comparative trade), i'd say $650-$700k a year would be enough to tip him into band 1 compensation. Taking into account he won't cost a draft pick at all, i'd say a few clubs will be knocking....

650-700 was around the mark when Rockliff moved... but its base contract and the structure of the contract etc. so its not simply just one number... since then we have had contracts signed Grundy and who else... who knows what the bands are now. The afl may or may not clarify it and your would not be the first club to get less than what you had thought you would get. My bet is end of R1... the other clubs hate the R1 being affected. Who knows who comes knocking...

If he wants a Milli then he can go get it anywhere besides us.

Good player, don't get me wrong. But I don't think we should give him a bag like that.

Agreed..700k would be my max.

And the 2019 Suns, desperate for a big bodied mid as they were, still said nah that's too much

They were not Melb..they knew in 12 months IF they wanted to they could spend that money and get him for zip. Im not sure how much room they have anyway..thats why I suspect 2mp or someone will get traded .. they will have a line of players wanting in after this year

Motlop was a year younger and went for a I think a 5 year contract in the 600s. That wasn't a first round pick.

I think your first dilemma will be finding someone to offer him a big long contract. Cap is certain to be cut. How many clubs are already going to find themselves locked in to current contracts and don't have room to make a big offer? Maybe North fit the bill? Saints have just locked in long term contracts, Suns would surely just play the kids at this stage, freo I think are in that boat too.

Maybe a side can offer him a really long contract and back end it which would do the trick contract-wise but how many clubs would risk that given his injury history?

If the league was in the position it was last year then it would be a chance, but honestly cannot see any way this could happen in a year where the league is being dragged under by player contracts worth over 200m and virtually zero revenue.

Also consider 2017 when both Motlop and Rockliff FA contracts were signed it was off the back of a 20% increase in the salary cap. There was empty space in every clubs books.

There's no way the salary cap doesn't get cut. Even if it it doesn't kick in right away it's almost inconceivable that we see big contracts being signed end of year. Even if they pro-rata it down in line with cuts the clubs will be constrained by current contracts. No one is going to have dollars to burn when half of every clubs list is locked in to contracts.

Sign some contracts? Yes. Sign some big contracts? No.

WE will see what reduction happens. I think it will be difficult to see the admin being to strong with cuts .. when they are asking the players to do what they are doing. Also if every player in contract also has to have a calibrated contract ... does a smart club then create space. Don't know. It would be more interesting if it was a players with obvious appeal to all. I think it was Footy Class that said Bris have cap room , Sydney would love him ... they have moved players before to create space.

They may not cut at all in the first year then 10% second, 20% third etc. But that staggered reduction would just reflect the current state of contracts being locked in already. New contracts would have to reflect the cap room that the club has not just next year but over the next few years.

The afl took a $500m loan out against etihad to get through. Player payments alone are $200m+ per annum and they have very little revenue. It's inconceivable that cap isn't cut for 2022 at the very latest.

Fair points ... as I said we will see. It may take 5-10 years . Im think 1 or 2 player reduction on the list a year.. and they have saved 3Mpa each club with soft cap

Can’t help but think that this year’s trade period and ND are the most critical to the club for a long time. If we nail it, we set up the foundation for a successful decade - screw it up and we’ll slip further behind many teams with young talented lists. One way to stuff up is to bring older players like Crouch who might (subject to their injury history) give us 2 to 3 years of stop gap mid field service, whilst using a biggish chunk of salary cap.

No players to nominate but a simple plea - please, please, please - no ND or trades with chronic injury history, no skinnies, no one paced mids, no players with poor footskills ... and no trades over age of 26.

Ok from a bloke i know around the club, says this about this young lad.
Great kid with character to boot!
Ticking all the boxes and coming along well.
Slimmed down and has added a bit strength/muscle.
Endurance Speed & Strength was his main problem not his football ability so he's getting there.
Playing in various positions. Learning a bit of everything.
He'll be playing seniors within 2 years. He was a long term project to begin with so he's tracking accordingly.
His words not mine.
Take it as u will.

FWIW have seen him play a couple of times over 2-3 year and has changed shape physically and can actually play a bit.
Once he learns that he can physically impose himself (I bit of MONGREL aka Mummy) he'll come on in leaps and bounds IMO.

On another player he talks of is... Ben Jarvis.
He said watch out for this kid. He likes him. Growing into his frame quite nicely and can play.

Cheers fellas.

From limited vision, Schlensog looks reasonably agile for his size and confident with ball in hand, good attributes even for potential KP. Got a good feeling about him and SDK for KP stocks.

Again from limited vision Jarvis looks like a third tall option with good marking judgement, with some tenacity and nice kicking action. Very skinny though - can’t see him being able to impose himself at AFL being so light. With the crazy schedule he might be a chance to get a game.

Probably not the first player that may be more available than previously thought.

REPORT: RIVAL CLUBS BELIEVE STAR GIANT IS “GETTABLE”

GWS’ tight salary cap could see them lose at least one of its star players, according to The Age’s Sam McClure.

McClure understands that gun midfielder Josh Kelly is seen as “gettable” by rival clubs with the Giants “well over” the salary cap for 2021.

Kelly signed a two-year extension with GWS last year that includes a trigger clause to extend the deal for another eight years.

The 10-year commitment is worth close to $1 million dollars a season.

Kelly rejected a reported nine-year, $10 million-dollar offer from North Melbourne to stay at the Giants.

He is a free agent at the end of 2021.

Star Giants pair Jeremy Cameron and Zac Williams are out of contract at season’s end.

Would take him in a heart beat.
Selwood's salary of $850k would be close for a like for like IMO. Maybe find another 100k from Costas Fruitery and Wahlahh!!!
Classy left footed midfielder which we haven't had in years... Paul Couch with speed.

They will move on other guys to keep Kelly if they have to he is too good to lose.

IF... as Pure alluded to , it has to be doubtful. He put that get out clause there for a reason... FA.... Id think it would take a lot of money to get him that way
