Can probably get a Sam Hayes type for next to nothing, rather go down that path than draft a kid that probably won't make it

Hayes has been mentioned before.. not sure how he is going... but that is probably more likely imo than drafting a raw kid. Not so much that you know if they will make it or not when they are so embryonic, but spending an early pick on even obvious talent talls is something we have been hesitant to do.

CROUCH ......1 Million Dollars ..surely thats last year... at times this year id say half that was closer to the mark. I dread hearing we are interested.

....

Crouch, who said he was in "no rush" to renew contract discussions after the freeze on signing deals was lifted on Tuesday, was believed to have been asking for as much $1 million per season last year.

An offer in that ballpark put forward to Crouch by a rival team later this season would almost certainly hand Adelaide a first-round compensation pick, giving the Crows the top two selections at the draft.

I think you'll find the million a year was the contract that the Suns board rejected last year. Since then his value has plummeted and the Suns aren't desperate and seeking to overpay anymore. He gets a 700k contract if he's lucky

Can anyone enlighten me on Schlensog and his progress, if any?

Ok from a bloke i know around the club, says this about this young lad.
Great kid with character to boot!
Ticking all the boxes and coming along well.
Slimmed down and has added a bit strength/muscle.
Endurance Speed & Strength was his main problem not his football ability so he's getting there.
Playing in various positions. Learning a bit of everything.
He'll be playing seniors within 2 years. He was a long term project to begin with so he's tracking accordingly.
His words not mine.
Take it as u will.

FWIW have seen him play a couple of times over 2-3 year and has changed shape physically and can actually play a bit.
Once he learns that he can physically impose himself (I bit of MONGREL aka Mummy) he'll come on in leaps and bounds IMO.

On another player he talks of is... Ben Jarvis.
He said watch out for this kid. He likes him. Growing into his frame quite nicely and can play.

Cheers fellas.

Nice work GCL.

There is certainly an opening for a tall down back. I guess as long as he is progressing then we can hope for a good outcome from this 198cm NGA player.

What id hate to see is us pushed to trim lists..and the club is made to let these 'projects' go. There is a definite push that AFL clubs should be more tertiary rather secondary or primary education. Another 2 years would have him at 22 certainly not old yet with the system as it is he could be gone before his ready.

One only has to think about Stewart, what was he giving at that age..or go back and say Pods...who was a rookie but got cut and thru the years develop at the second level. If he can become a Blitz type the Schlensog will become a wonderfull troubling mouthful of letters for commentators to be calling.

I actually think Crouch is a better player than Adelaide allow him to be, he's not worth whats being reported though.

I certainly do not think he is worth what was mentioned and I do think its possible for him to look better in a better side , Im not even sure he looks that fit..and both Crouch have at times this year look like they killed their sides chances with the ball. Again, I suspect some of that is form and confidence and the pressure of losing.

Would he fit our needs. I'm not convinced... really I think id rather give time to Stephens and other young players, maybe mids we draft this year... but I also understand the club has other thoughts on this.

The cost would have to be closer to what we offered Dalhaus rather than Danger. IMO. If he then came in and blew us away then he has chance to get a better contract. Dalhaus is the prime example of a player of why you do or dont do it based on how you feel about him.

To me LD is a mature limited player who pressures well but misses too many goals ..who we got for zip but now have him on our list for too long as part of the deal to get him. If all goes well ..I could see by next year our younger players should hopefully be pushing him out and he then spends a lot of his last contract year in the VFL on good money.

For those that like having the mature cheap types , there is probably a good chance he could give us what Menegola does etc. He would be a good stop gap.

The issue is without a good sized contract ..would Adelaide match the number... I suspect anything less than the number that gets them end of R1 they will match... I suspect someone else will offer him more.

Most teams are hesitant to draft rucks early not just us though.

I agree, I think he'd be great for us. 600k I'd be happy.

I think he would be ideal for us but he is injury prone so I would be hesitant to offer him a big contract.

Id say some clubs more than others... one has a look at certain clubs and they seem to respect the role more. Whats the magic number to have on the list?

I think we are one or two short compared to some clubs, we lack a kid who we are trying to groom who could play ion needed. Look who Port brought in the other day.. Ladhams 22 , cost them a rookie pick , and they brought in Lycett while he was on their list. What is Hayes future there ... at 21 he would have to be thinking about it soon. Collingwood brought in Cameron at 24 turning 25. while they had Cox and Grundy. .. WC seem to have 5 players and drafted Williams and Jamison..

If that fails then sure we have to trade in... just don't totally exclude having someone under 25 as a ruck on our list. Easier said than don , first to admit that.

How much is Crouch worth? What would he want? A season like this year ..and the Crows immediate future might have him thinking. Did he get along with Danger? What sort of dollars get the Crows a pick that they are happy with ? What is Menegola and Dahl on? A lot of questions about the concept of being interested in him.

No way is Crouch worth that much to net them pick 2.

If the Crows are serious about rebuilding they should bid on Jamarra Ugle-Hagan at pick 1 and if/when the Dogs match take Riley Thilthorpe.

Or if the Dogs refuse to match then they get both (if Crouch nets them pick 2) it is a win win for them.

We all know they won't though since it seems to be an unwritten rule to let academy players slip to a cheap a s possible fore every club which is bullshit.

It does seem to happen to regularly that academy or FS slide... I doubt they bid of JUH with their first pick, it would never get passed their second pick which may be around 5 , as Freo's position will slide due to last year. If they get a R1 pick for Crouch who knows. but it would see them having 3 picks in the first 6 or 7 picks.

I have no doubt that the bid for JUH will not come till around 5-8 which is crap but nothing anyone will do about it.

If Crows have pick 1 and 2 and don't bid with one of them we may as well just start letting clubs have academy/FS for free.

Because every year we are just going to get the same thing (Green last year) where clubs let players slip just incase they eventually get one and everyone lets that one slip to them.

If he wants a Milli then he can go get it anywhere besides us.

Good player, don't get me wrong. But I don't think we should give him a bag like that.

Try not interpret a players agent doing their due diligence and asking other clubs what their client is worth on the market, with a players ACTUAL desire to leave a club. Vic media made it out Brad rocked up on GC's door with a bottle of Grange begging to be traded. As an Adelaide supporter you tend to get a 6th sense for players wanting to (frequently) leave the club, but both Crouch brothers have made it pretty clear they both love living in Adelaide. As Brad said yesterday, his preference is to stay, and will only leave if he's pushed out.
He won't get a million, as no one is going to offer him close to that, but a million p/s isn't what is required for the Crows to get Band 1 comp. Considering his age, and that he's a year younger that Rockliff was when he went (a comparative trade), i'd say $650-$700k a year would be enough to tip him into band 1 compensation. Taking into account he won't cost a draft pick at all, i'd say a few clubs will be knocking....
