Hately looks better than C Stephens and C Constable, in terms of our next gen bigger body inside midfielders. I would get him if the trade was the right price. No questions.

On draft position he should be , but id wait for a while before we judge CS

It's a bit early to be casting judgement on Cooper Stephens isn't it? He's played one pre-season game after not playing for more than 12 months.

But you can always notice special talent in young players. A flash here and there. I remember Bartel selling candy in his debut v bombers and I knew he’d be a gun. I remember Ablett borking 2 players in his debut. I remember jordon Clark taking a courageous intercept mark in his debut in the preseason last year. I have full confidence Clark will be a gun.

I saw Stephens panic and back out of a mark that led to a goal. I saw no class whatsoever. I’ve seen nothing in his limited highlights either. 1 game I know, I’ll reserve judgement but I want to see a ‘flash’. I hope wells hasn’t gone early on a kid to not try and make up for the ‘worpel error’ by going the local kid. CS played hardly any footy in 2019, how could wells pick him above better known talents? It was a ballsy move, I hope it pays off.

Yeah, this is what I meant. Aside a big engine and a decent rig, I'm yet to see something special on the footy field from the vision on him so far. But let's see.

I think back to that preseason where Jack Henry trained with the forwards then when Harry Taylor and Lachie Henderson went down he switched to be a defender on like a weeks notice. I remember him being ok in that preseason match but not outstanding. Fast forward to about 5 rounds in and he was more than up for it in the seniors. That was a kid with a full year of vfl under his belt

Right... which is still a full season of VFL more than Cooper has had to this point.

We have players on our list that are now solid member in our best 22 who we ordinary in their first year after drafting, we all have seen player that have looked ordinary in their first season of VFL, some come good, some don't but to be questioning based on a PS game seems to be like planing for divorce on your first date. WE will not know if CS is a good pick for YEARS yet. My memory of guys like Enright and Corey were that they were not great first up either.

IMO, its not about one pick, we have to add a solid group of selections , some will be as expected some will not come on and others will surprise. The lesson to me is we must add more talent and 'let water find its own level'. Come the end of the year , add another couple of young players that we like until we have a group that looks capable of taking us thru the next gen. Atm we would be lucky to be in the top 9 sides for up coming talent. Sides like GWS and Gold Coast and a few others have that many talented kids that several would not even be considered for selection yet at Geelong they would probably be under selection pressure. Take GWS .. Hopper, Green, Caldwell and who knows how many others, and they have had several failures. Imagine if we had #1pick and have taken McCartin.

That anyone has to defend CS cause he was taken top 20 of the back of one preseason game shows to me we have our hopes too tightly glued to him. Its a symptom of not having enough early picks imo.

What did you see in Ling? Cause I remember him looking woeful in his first few games. I remember him playing forward pocket, kicking a point and looking a complete spud with no redeemable features. Slow, lumbering, kind of skinny and weak, not big enough to be a key forward, nothing stood out.

If we ever do have a pick under 10 and Swells goes for someone a bit non standard, the reaction will be interesting to say the least.

The picks we have now are still not single digit.. we will most likely come around mid table. With the acadamey bids our best will be about 13 or so. Might end up with 13, 16, 24 (West Coast). Still an arms length from access to top tier talent

I am aware , unless we have a poor year , we still will struggle to get the best talent.

Its why id not be surprised if we look at trade if the right player was available.

I go back to start of last year and he was getting 30.
Now he's not - playing off HBF -and I dont get it.

They did a similar thing with Smedts and he was played out of his natural position - but CC was succeeding naturally to our eye - must be something i disnt see. Either way - he's gonna get frustrated soon.

Please put the kid in the guts and don't expect him to work as hard as people in the system for 10. Ridiculous
Get ball and dish off should be his directive
Alternate the likes of Danger, Selwood, Steven, Parfitt, Narkle and Cockatoo up forward and roving ruck roving
The kid is a beauty and we are doing him a disservice.
His start last season as a mid was incredible. We keep playing the same guys and making the same errors.
When Miers, Clarke, Constable and Atkins were in our team we flew

I don't think we can play menagola and Charlie in the same team.

Last year CS and the MC said Charlie needed to work on his spread from the packs etc.


We drafted Kennerly as a mid who's been tried at HB .


Hopefully Cooper can come on later in the year.
