Perfect time to drive down the highway with no breatho’sCharlie Curnow out for the year. Surely he is getting jack of Carl. Come home son
What's the point? Half the top ten are probably going to be a bust. This draft is a roulette wheel

But if you don't know who should be in that top ten your picks are not actually top ten. Had we run the juniors as normal this year we would have maybe 50% different names in that top 10. I think it's probably accurate to say that outside of the first maybe 5 picks their next 30 picks would have a very flat value curveThere is always a significant benefit getting into the top10..as always one would have to gauge a cost benefit.
Bar an odd exception the clubs know already who they like. Just like when we drafted Selwood off a non playing year.. they put so much time into them so they can assess futures. Geelong would not have trade they way they did unless they felt they understood the type of talent they would be able to access... Wells talked about it recently..But if you don't know who should be in that top ten your picks are not actually top ten. something this year is better than nothing this year.Looks like they are now saying they expect some junior games in the 3rd quarter. So there should be at least some games to get a closer look at potential draft picks. Better than going in blind with no games in their senior year to judge them on.
I wonder if its a good thing for the 18yo's not to be playing much this season, so that they grow into their bodies... I guess we might see next year. If anyone is drafted that is!
Does Bruhn have pace?
A bit of a mid-sized goal-kicking midfielder yeah? 182cm.
I am no expert on the human body, but I do think that excessive weight training for example at a young age could stunt some growth. So playing a lot in cold conditions, with lots of weight activity at a younger age may not be the optimal path for more resilient bodies for later in their careers. Then again I am not an expert in sports science. I know some kids are playing excessive amounts of sports at young ages, and perhaps delaying some weight training and reducing playing activity maybe beneficial longer term for body resilience, but who knows.... I don't for sure.It looks like there will be games later in the year , perhaps some sort of champs series very late perhaps the draft in dec.
The concept of no draft, no football being good for the 18yo's .. is not something I had thought about before. Would some players present as better or worse than they would coming off a normal season is one discussion ..but to have players better by not playing is another. It sounds superficially ludicrous but then look at players like Joel Selwood who could not play in his top age year. Perhaps you have a point. If it was so , then do we have to then have to accept that far less football should be played each year. Perhaps in a way this feeds into the idea of making the NAB league an u19 comp. One could put limits on younger players.
If nothing else this year will supply fodder to feed the data cattle that live on the afl numbers. Id imagine we will be talking about the affect on players for years to come. Hoe many get picked who should not have and who missed out on getting picked (as happens each year) but this year it will be the corona conundrum , how much was because of not playing a normal season.
What I have a great fear about is the reduction in list sizes having an affect on players who are not ready to play... even harder to pick young rucks for eg.
Fair point. Balancing long term to getting drafted may be difficult. One only has to read that Bruhn article to see how much they push when not fit ,let alone fit and in the gym. Perhaps players having a less fanatical attitude when young like TomStewart inadvertently has allowed his body to mature, and now he benefits from that, balance that to how many never even get a chance and wear their bodies out playing for the local mud kickers.I am no expert on the human body, but I do think that excessive weight training for example at a young age could stunt some growth. The club aren't the only 1's to have seen this young man. A few articles rating him as a potential top 10 pick b4 the COVID delay. The club would have an idea..seems they liked his stuff..

Shutdown period a blessing in disguise for gun draft prospect
Geelong Falcons prospect Tanner Bruhn is hopeful is run of bad injury luck is overwww.afl.com.au
With reduced lists coming i’d say zero.G'day guys, just curious if there would be any interest in Rhys Mathieson here? Not considering a trade, same situation as occurred with Jarryd Lyon, delisted with a year remaining on his contract, as he had a deal in principal with another club.
What about L Fogarty 3rd year still not right to play always injured is he under pressure to keep his spot?

Old age and senility I guess.G’day guys,
Came to ask if there’d be any interest in Rhys Mathieson in these here parts, and read the last two pages to get the lay of the land.
If you don’t mind a couple of neutral comments.
From what I have read (mostly Caro and Niall from The Age, and Twomey on afl.com), both the salary cap, soft cap and list sizes will be cut for season 2021.
Figures I’ve read are salary cap possibly to drop from $13 mil to $10 mil.
Soft cap for off field staff to become a hard cap around the $6 mil figure.
List size to be reduced to 40 for 2021, with a gradual decrease to 35 players by 2023.
I’m not sure what has been discussed further back.
Something else I’ve heard from a podcast, where playing lists were analysed. Across the league, on average 31 players per list, play 95% of all games. The remaining 5% of games is played by the other 13 players on the list.
Anyway, back to Rhys Mathieson, would you guys have any interest in a hometown lad?

What's up with the above quotes briztoon ? Second time you've tried to flog 'the beast' here in a couple of months![]()

Yeah, they’re the other forum where I asked the same question.Any player not in the best 22 at all 18 clubs will be hard pressed to hold his spot and will find it hard to find a vacancy in a situation where list have to be reduced to 35. If Gold Coast have to lose 16 players off their list there will be a flood and surplus of players, RM may have to push his case in the VFL...but if I was to select a club perhaps Ess might be a reasonable fit. As a bonus, his mate is there.
