Ablett is basically the GOAT. With Geelong connections that also sells memberships. Higgins isn’t comparable. It’s like us hoping to get a R2 for Taylor.

3rd round+ at best. What did Mitchell cost hawks? He’s contracted which makes his value go from pick 80 to about 50 as a 33 year old... surely

Agree with most of that ... but I suspect we will trade more than you want for him...

Ess already have 3 /4 years on the table...dollars no idea.. and yes I get your point... but someone over there is going to melt when tehy think about the deal they might have had last year. So yes Band1 gives them the early pick ..and they would be crazy to knock that back.

If we go for and get Daniher... is that Crouch of the menu..?

I agree on all that I can just see why we might risk it.
I think we can fit both in if we backend some deals but I reckon crouch is the only one we are likely to get.

Gotta disagree. Higgins has been good, but has no connection outside of playing for the Falcons in Juniors. He has no emotional/mental health reason for coming back - like Rohan and Steven -, and he's past his best.

Gaz on the other hand, is embedded in our club, is the greatest player of his generation, and possibly the greatest of all time. His sister also passed, and he needed to be home.

Apples and oranges IMO. Not comparable

Dont get caught up in the story, the return , the goat etc... ..just look at the player ..and can he play 40 games in the next 3 seasons. As far as links to the club , he has minor links nothing like GA ..but thats not the point... the clubs has moved into this short term value mindset... so whether you or I like it ...it would not surprise me if there is something to it.

It's more pointing out that we won't give anything of value, given we gave up Pick 58 for a 29 year old Jack Steven. Obvs a bit to play out, but I'm pretty confident we're not giving up a 2nd rounder for a 33 year old that doesn't enhance anything about our side. If it was for Goldstein, that's a different story

Lets wait and see...i hope you are correct.

So now we want Daniher and Higgins on top of Cameron, Crouch, Brown, Goldstein, and every other player delisted and in free agency. The Geelong salary cap must be epic.

What salary cap? According to Richmond nuffies we don't have one! :p

I think the ship has sailed on Higgins and Goldy.

He was in the 17yo Mini draft when the expansion club's came in. We wanted to get a pick in that to look at him but we didn't have the trade collateral back then.

Thats rightvi remember that.

26yo hes at a good age.

Kinda hope we don't get anyone big, if the tea leaves continue to read like they have.

- Brouch may go to Richmond, which isn't a big deal, because our midfield is stacked.

- Viney looks likely to stay at Melbourne

- Daniher just got offered 4 years by Essendon, so Dodo will be a pain. He's also not really worth it anyway

- Williams going means Cameron looks likely to stay. Considering his attitude this season, wouldn't be such a bad result

- Gunston and Breust stay at Hawks, as they're not worth what the Hawks would ask

- Higgins is too old, and I reckon that one is BS anyway

************

Caldwell or XOH are probably the only ones that we've been linked to, which I wouldn't mind. Saints look prepared to offer Caldwell good money, so XOH would be the best fit (loved him and his leadership in his draft year).

Can keep most of our picks, keep most of our players, and develop internally.

Reckon there's a lot of merit in what people said about Wells putting feelers out there just to jack contracts up and skew the market, lol
If we do nothing we go backwards, we need to continue to add to the team in the areas we are deficient, for me a key forward, a ruck, and a quick running type who can break the lines are needed. We arent going to get them all but at least 1 A grader would be nice.

That Richmond and Crouch thing is fake news, its about a article 2 years ago of him been linked to them

Nah, I was referring to a person in that thread who said someone they knew at Geelong said its down to us and Richmond - not the news thing. Either way not really fussed

Besides the ruck, we already have that?

Kreuger is untried, and could be very good, Clark is the running type who can break lines (is also a definite possibility to be an A grader), and SDK could possibly be our future ruck or forward, along with that Greek basketball kid that should come to us. Sav also developing in both ruck and forward too.

Not as much of a need for all those things, as you think - but a good ruck in the immediate sense is probably the most desirable

not if they are totally rebuilding. wed take goldy at the drop of a hat

Both are too old for what picks they'd cost and neither is FA. Goldy was FA last year the time was then not now.

Maybe we need to go backwards. If we don’t win the flag this year I can’t see us winning one with the current list. We need some young A-grade talent. But I’m sure the club disagrees.

Im not sure the club see players as being too old if they can play at a certain level. What I'm going by is who we have brought in recently , I think the club see value in high quality older players. What will our R2 be this year... probably in the 40's .. . Do the club try to include a player in the trade? North has just delisted a truck load they will need players.

Put it this way a handy couple of kids drafted in that range Kenn and Jarvis ... are right in the gun this year ... and what have we got from them. I can see what the club being thinking, ... its not my preference because something like youth revitalises watching a young side, fresh and new...

If we can get him for another pick we get ..let say the pick we get Higg for Cockatoo then fine..

I'm not convinced North will want a bucket load for Higgins like some think. I think they are going a different direction now and Higgins is expendable. That being said, not sure I'm his hugest fan. Probably rather chase Breust.
