i sometimes think… if he’s name wasn’t Tom Brown the son of Paul Brown would he be high on our list.
id say no. But what would I know what’s going thru Wells’s head.

Id say the name draws our attention, as all previous Sons do... but Brown is getting mentioned a lot more than Breuer fro example. Serious watcher list him top 30 ... add that he has perhaps slipped due to injury , has the physical attributes that put him high in testing... I think we would be look at him as an option.

I also think any of the players that tested well and have the footy talent that appeals would be an option. So someone like Butler and Knevitt will come into consideration. Fact is you can only draft who has not been picked. All three could be gone by the time we get a call.

Worth the time to look up Brown's 20 meter sprint time AND his 2K time trial...both are elite

We consistently pick someone high in one of the combine testing attributes. I have no doubt its a strong consideration. Players like Holmes that can run, like MOC... seem to be seen as having more chance of success than a Constable type. Exceptions to every rule..and ideally a gun player also test well. They probably then get taken before our pick

Bews SDK O'Connor
Henry Stevens
Holmes Constable Parfitt
Evans Ratagolea Close
Miers Stengle
Neale Stephens Narkle
I/C Atkins Kolo, Evans Simpson Z. Guthrie Greek Freak
Only really missing a CHB and a FF under 30 in 2024.
Well have Cameron for a couple of years and could pick up Brander or Schlensog too
3 drafts and further FA by then too
Not as grim as it sims

always very difficult tyring to predict sides multiple seasons ahead. My bet is three years ago... there would have been few that would have a 2022 side with two Hawthorn players in it.

As you mention Id hope by 2024 we have 3-5 must pick players from drafts

We need to also be prioritising players that can kick. I think that is critical. Knevitt’s action looks tidy enough.

To guarantee either Knevitt or Brown we may need to trade up. Wells should hopefully have a good feel as to whether this is necessary or not. Ned Long would be a good fall back option if Knevitt is gone - similar size, great endurance and a ripping kid.

Sure multiple inputs would be considered. There is always a couple of names that pop and get drafted earlier than expect by 22... so who we take is probably a good chance to be a surprise. Id hope we look at Vcountry kids if they right one is there.. our recent record for non vic kids has not been great ....

There’s gifting and there’s developing. You have to be patient and accept some mistakes. But development can be fast tracked by giving more senior game time.

Spots for those young guys i mentioned could be easily be found. Don’t play them all at once of course. But have 2-3 in together.

Holmes this year seems a prime example. Next year player that have been on the list two years must start to push in or they will be passed over

I’d say in this covid environment, clubs will be likely to look more closely at players from their own state. I think our draft position also lends itself to drafting the Vic kids that may slide due to lack of exposure.

I’d like to think that Knevitt will be available at 22. Not guaranteed but more likely than unlikely I think.

The Clark one - could go either way - he could become a good player for Fremantle - or in 2 years time it wouldnt be a shock if he was delisted

The history against him is - when ex Geel players go to a side - a weaker side -outside of the 8 - they struggle - you have got the obvious ones who went to the Royal Parade football grave yard . And even Kelly - didnt have Dangerfield and Selwood at W/Coast - made football life alot harder for him

Fremantle this year - Geel beat them by about 12 goals late in the season over in WA - Lions did the same thing to them over their a couple of weeks later .
So you have got an inconsistent young player joining that team - it could go either way for him - i just hope the Cats nail something with pick 22 - like another Holmes would be excellent

I doubt he is delisted if Freo have given him a 4 year contract. Clark does seem to be a bit of an outlier. Early pick who we want to keep goes. Good chance he plays 50 plus games for Freo which would make him an unusual ex geelong player.

Im not fussed that he is gone, bit of a wasted opportunity but my take is it was blame to share around. The non selection thing is pretty much a myth. Plenty of players would lave to have 30 games up after 3 years, that he thinks that is not being played does make me wonder how he will take non selection at freo if it happens.

Makes sense. Maybe the kid Morrioson does get a look late..depending on how many picks we take. Capt of StJ does not hurt

I don't want to make Covid predictions based on how things are going, but I'd be more willing to pick kids from interstate this year than last. I don't have much exposure to this year's draft class so this is more of a sweeping generalisation, but if we could get a KPD that has looked good in the SANFL or WAFL (or the kid from Willie if he's big enough) level but is still only ~19/20, I think that would be a good fit for our list profile. I'd also be more than happy for us to bring Schlensog back as a DFA and focus on the midfield in the draft.

If Vic Country kids slide, though, that would also definitely be nice for us. We're well positioned to grab that type with our picks, especially if we can move up to 23 to go with 22 and a couple of early 30s.

Get your point but there needs to be a balance of both. We can’t have ’natural’ footballers occupying a wing when their direct opponents are clocking up 15kms in a game, that would get real ugly.

Yep... i agree wholeheartedly.
But those numbers can get you side tracked when linking them to actual football output, nouse & capabilities.
I'm just a buyer beware when it comes to combine stats.
Cheers

I think the emphasis in our draft will and should be on midfielders. With Selwood, Danger, Duncan, Menegola, Guthrie etc all over 29 we desperately need to replenish this area.

I agree we need another KPD though. At this stage the cupboard is bare after De Koning and Blicavs (who’s not really a defender). Leek Aleer may be looked at if he slides into the 30’s perhaps?

We need more of everything bar small forwards, but yes the midfield looks very very bare.

Jordan Clark... What a *******. Disappointing times. Little baby gets his bottle after all.
I cannot blame Clark. Knocked back Freo last year, chose to stay, was frozen out of the back half by an abrasive coach and largely left out of the side. Seen players like Zuthrie, Kolo and Atkins given preference. Offered longevity and a commitment to being played in the first 22 at Freo in his home state. I’d leave too.

He wasnt getting a game because he wasnt good enough and his performances showed that, also his attitude to hard work was apparently terrible, has nothing to do with the club treating him badly

Listening to Wells I would be very nervous if I was Constable. I'm also certain we'll get Schenslog back as well.

I just wanted to confirm because on the trade wrap video with Stephen Wells, Tom King asked him if there were 7 spots available on the list 5 senior and 2 rookie and Stephen's reply was there were a couple more than that. With Cat B rookies etc are we able to have more spots or is the 5 and 2 the maximum we can have

No tom was asking if we had 5 senior list spots and wells was saying it would be up to 7 depending on whether we elevate atkins or close or not and whether constable gets delisted. If we dont elevate anyone and delist chook that would give us a max of 7 senior list spots (6 if we add stengle and 5 if we add another dfa etc) and 2 rookie spots and one cat b spot.

It feels pretty imminent as a problem too. Guthrie is the only one I'd confidently say we'll see as a permanent centre bounce midfielder in 2023 amongst that bunch, which is great if we have kids ready to put in the guts, but we don't even have any young mids really, let alone kids that are ready. If we're lucky, we might get a couple in this draft that are ready to play some midfield minutes by the end of the season, but it would be really nice if Cooper Stephens had a great preseason and looked the part.
