...What?

Jeez string a coherent sentence together and try again...bloody hell.

Our trade history since 2015:

2015: 9, 28 and Gore for Danger and 50 (was worth 2 top 10 picks - Crows are still bitching about it),

2015: 17 for Henderson (about right for a Best 22 KPD at the time)

2015: Scooter Selwood for salary and no picks

2015: Zac Smith for Pick 50

2016: 22 and Tuohy for 19 and Smedts (3 pick downgrade)

2017: Pick 19 compo given to us for Motlop (which we were gifted from the AFL to save face) for Ablett and 24 (5 Pick downgrade and TK)

2018: Dahlhaus for salary only

2019: TK traded out for 14 (16 on draft night which became Cooper Stephens), 24 (which became Pick 11 after trading with GC for their future priority pick - on traded for Cameron), Future 1st (13 on traded for Cameron) and 37 (on traded for Jenkins and Future GC 3rd - Pick 42 - with all his salary paid) for TK and a Future 3rd

2020: Jeremy Cameron and GWS Future 2nd (Pick 32) traded out for Picks 13 (15 on draft night) and 15 (18 on draft night)

2020: Pick 20 (ended up as Pick 25 on draft night) traded for Essendon Future 2nd (Pick 30 this year)

2020: Lachie Fogarty and Pick 38 for Pick 30 (Pick 30 on traded for Shaun Higgins - this admittedly was a waste)

2021: Pick 55 and Nathan Kreuger for Pick 41 (on traded with Fort for Brisbane Future 3rd and Pick 50)

2021: Jordan Clark and our Future 4th (Pick 70ish) for Pick 22 and Carlton Future 3rd (likely Pick 45ish)

2021: Jonathan Ceglar (200K salary paid) and Hawthorn Future 4th (Pick 55ish) for Brisbane Future 3rd (Pick 50ish)

************************************************

In what universe, is a net loss of:

Picks 9, 17, 28, 50, a 3 pick downgrade from 19 to 22, Smedts, Motlop, Pick 37, Pick 25, Fogarty, Pick 38, Fort, Kreuger, Clark, Pick 70

for a net gain of:

Dangerfield, Tuohy, Henderson, Scooter, Dahl, Zac Smith, 3 years of Ablett, Jeremy Cameron, Pick 16, Pick 30, Pick 32, Ceglar, Pick 55ish

considered a loss?

***********************************************

You are literally the only poster I've seen (from any club including WC) who thinks that getting 2 years out of a ready made player who was literal crumbs in the Motlop loss that brought Ablett back, and then getting Jeremy Cameron, Pick 16 (Stephens), Pick 30 and Pick 32 - is some sort of 'loss' for us.

I actually cannot believe how negative a person would have to be to think that way. I'm just gonna ignore you, as it's far too frustrating to have a conversation with a supposed 'supporter' who thinks this way.

Enjoy the negativity :)
There is no negativity with the players we have traded for, some we didn't need, its the trades themselves paying overs, always letting players go
4 unders, we are a good side home ground helps too, and easy 2 deal with, clark did look like the best low pic we have had 4 a while.

If you think we have done well at trade table good on you, i would like to sometimes drive harder bargains, you haven't mentioned the really
bad trades shadow, you have left them off, sorry if your offended.

The idea you can double dip is misguided IMO. This competition is designed to stop that exact thing happening. The Richmond team was built on sh*t loads of draft picks and the right managers - same thing with Melbourne. Look at their midfield FFS - they have been so sh*t for so long they even managed to blow multiple first round picks and still end up with the current team lol.

You can do both (short and long term) as we have been doing it for 10 years and with free agency its more do able than it ever was.

I'm pretty happy with what we got - there are plenty of diamonds in the rough as the recruiters have had next to nothing in determining quality due to covid. You can guarantee that there are half a dozen footballers in the 20+ range who would have gone top twenty anything other year (other than last year)

The funny thing is CE, that I really believe we have MORE of a chance of winning it, if we introduce a few kids next year. It works to both our short and long term advantage now.
There’s got to be a balance. I would like to see Dahlhaus, Higgins, Kolo and even Blicavs challenged for their spots by Evans, Narkle, SDK and Stephens (hopefully). But I’m not up for gifting games. The young blokes need to stake their claim with good form. Form that can be capable of contributing to finals wins.

Hawkins has only a couple of years left. We are light on for KPD’s. Here’s a guy that physically has the attributes. Different environment, he might thrive? Maybe he’s just a slow developer. Anyway, if we can get him for nothing as a DFA, he’d be a better option than anything we’d get in the draft with our last pick.
If we can get him as a DFA, and he's open to playing KPD, then for sure, we should take him.

Nah, you don’t lose talent. Just get him settled in one position.

True. I suppose its more about whether thats wrecked him mentally or his confidence can be rebuilt. The talent is still there imo.

There’s gifting and there’s developing. You have to be patient and accept some mistakes. But development can be fast tracked by giving more senior game time.

Spots for those young guys i mentioned could be easily be found. Don’t play them all at once of course. But have 2-3 in together.

i sometimes think… if he’s name wasn’t Tom Brown the son of Paul Brown would he be high on our list.
id say no. But what would I know what’s going thru Wells’s head.

Worth the time to look up Brown's 20 meter sprint time AND his 2K time trial...both are elite

Two? Please don’t say Nathan Krueger… as he’s not a kpd except in the local GDFL.
a third tall who delivered nothing in 3 years.
who’s the other? Not Hendo?
Harry Taylor being the important one. Henderson cooked at the end but he was the other.

We really should have gone after a kpd to replace Harry last year and played Blitz back on the wing like in 2020. Would have allowed us to leave Sav in the twos and add an extra mid/fwd. I honestly think that period in 2020 where Blitz and Rhys were alternating it was about the best our ruck has looked in years.

How do we jump Dees , dogs & Port to win a cup?
19, 20 & 21 couldn’t get it done and our best players are older and more battered. We can’t develop young players and then they leave.
A shift in game plan is a must. Can this coach do it ? Obviously kelly and Betts aren’t gonna offer much in terms of strategy and game plan.
Bog average coming up!

Haven’t been average for 16 plus years… this wI’ll be strange for half our posters lol

Really means sweet FA really… plenty of fast quick endurance athletes that don’t even play a game.
IMO those combines are poor mans copycat of a NFL combine.
I think Wells wouldn’t even waste his time watching that circus.

The Clark one - could go either way - he could become a good player for Fremantle - or in 2 years time it wouldnt be a shock if he was delisted

The history against him is - when ex Geel players go to a side - a weaker side -outside of the 8 - they struggle - you have got the obvious ones who went to the Royal Parade football grave yard . And even Kelly - didnt have Dangerfield and Selwood at W/Coast - made football life alot harder for him

Fremantle this year - Geel beat them by about 12 goals late in the season over in WA - Lions did the same thing to them over their a couple of weeks later .
So you have got an inconsistent young player joining that team - it could go either way for him - i just hope the Cats nail something with pick 22 - like another Holmes would be excellent
It would be a huge shock. In fact massive if he was delisted in two years.
He has a four year contract!

Has worked out OK with Holmes

Wells watches a lot of that stuff as holmes would attest to.

Thats a pretty big ask against the Kings and the ben browns/jacksons/dixon etc (ie really big tall forwards. We need 1 or 2 really tall capable kpds for those guys. Yes we need run off half back but id look at replacing guys like kolo and atkins with that not going too short with kpds.
Yeah, I do get that viewpoint. I just think the ways you get beaten as a defender are pretty simple: either on the lead, strength 1 v 1, or on the deck. So ultimately you need players that have good closing speed, are strong and good both in the air and at ground level. My view is we can overestimate the usefulness of height in a key defender. Creativity from the last line is much more important and we don't get that from Blicavs. His talents are elsewhere.
