Snuff Thks for your contribution.

He seems to fit what I want , which is someone with expossed form , someone who has been in the system developing yet still young. Quality is questionable but he is being kept out by a good ruckman. At his age, most ruckmen will only get better.

What has he been like when playing forward? Can he mark and be a forward option. What his stamina like?
He's been kicking a few goals in WAFL but its not something I'd be bringing him in for. His strength's are his field disposal is very good for a ruck and his ground ball follow up work. Highlights of his scratch match against Vardy early in the year (https://www.fremantlefc.com.au/vide...dal=true&type=video&publishFrom=1614667504001) where you get a pretty good idea of the type of player he is.

And if Freo are after a quality rebounding defender, Tom Stewart isn’t the man you need. Go for Zac Guthrie. He beat his opponent once. Pretty sure he’s a star in the making.
And Constable plays the same position to Selwood. I think it will be hard to get Darcy. But if we are going to trade for a ruck it needs to be someone who is better than who we have.

If he keeps his form in the WAFL maybe a late 2nd rd pick
I'd be pretty happy with that, not that I think he's not worth it, there is potential there for him to be a very good ruckman for 10 years but just that we'd have nothing to stand on given he's had limited opportunity

I'll chip in here, honestly, Meek is the one you should be going after. Poor dude is behind the best young ruck in the AFL but the times he got a game at the start of the year he 100% looks like he belongs.

He has better mobility and foot skills than Darcy, and is deceptively fast (while it was against Flynn and the witches hats version of GWS, watch our game against them for his work if your bored). He is already too good for WAFL and is still really young, I think he'll end up being a Witts story for someone, Sandi seems to be a real good developer of young rucks.

As Pure_Ownage has said, if you actually managed to convince Darcy to leave (and by all accounts he loves it here), he would cost you something you would be very uncomfortable with until he likely wins you a flag. Compare his stats to Gawn for this year and understand he just turned 23.
Thanks Snuffy for your views on Meek and Darcy 👍

All things being equal why would you stay at Freo with their lack of success when you can go to a club with a strong final history?
Many reasons. He may love the lifestyle in Perth and perhaps believes that Freo has a list which can challenge in a couple of years, whether that's true or not.

Although many ex-Falcons have requested a trade home, plenty haven't. Some people are quite happy not living in the state they grew up in.

Been talk on here about how young players today don’t want to wait for their turn in the seniors. Well article today says Jammara is disgruntled at not being picked. And other clubs are looking to see if they can get him out of the dogs. Unlikely to happen at this stage but shows even the top picked players aren’t immune. Most top 10 picks would expect to play by half way through the season.
Reports I’d read said JUH had work to get himself ready for AFL. And you can’t argue with the dogs form this year.
Im sure he’d be useful in their team even down back to begin with.

If i went number 1 id want to play in my first year too, in reality the dogs dont need him so might as well look at the possibility of offloading him for some future picks.

They wont trade him and even if they did other clubs wont trade what theyd want to get him. Nothing happening with him this year.

I recall Saints fans cocky a couple of year back over their prospects of enticing Ben King to play with his brother. It was a lay down misere as far as they were concerned. You now wonder what the future of those two lads will be? If St Kilda remain the basket case that they are you'd think that Max will look elsewhere and well, unless GC can finally solve their issues with player retention, then Ben may do the same. With Hawkins still 2-3 years away from retirement then the timing might be quite good for us.
I think gold Coast would be ahead of saint kilda in regards to keeping their respective kings

Talk of bringing in Chol or some other second string GWS ruckman doesn't make a great deal of sense to me.

If we're bringing in a ruck you'd want them to be an obvious upgrade on current stocks. Fort is never going to be A-grade but he's closer to Chols level than Chol is to A-grade.

If we're really thinking of taking on a different ruck next year we should at least play Fort a couple of times to get a baseline.

My preference would be not to bring one in on the basis that the only one I like (Darcy) will cost the earth. Second preference is to pay the earth and get Darcy. I don't see the value in a third option really.

I think so too, if only because St Kilda come under more media scrutiny than Gold Coast do. I'd want out of the footy bubble if I was the St Kilda King
Low pressure, plus I think the turnaround for them is maybe only 50 games away. They have the right coach, they've selected the right kids. They're competitive with the saints this year and I'm 2 years they will be pounding some of the lesser teams.

The timing for King then would be perfect, he'd become a free agent after this group has found a bit of cohesion and can name his price.

Saints could turn it around but I'm extremely doubtful. You need either a group of elite draftees who will just figure it out in a few years or an effective structure that you can drop hard working limited players into. Saints have neither from where I sit

I don’t think anyone has actually said they want Chol.
I mentioned he had impressed me in the last few games but was in relation to CCJ and what Richmond would do when Lynch comes back.
I also mentioned the young ruckman I would
Want after Darcy would be Sweet from the dogs. Not Chol 🤣

I’d say Sweet will be available as they have English, Martin and will pick up Darcy jnr in the draft. Can’t say I’ve seen enough to say we should targets him but he’s been ok.

Martin will retire though so they might want to keep Sweet. But you could get him with the right offer.

Lynch who played for coll today might be another option he wont get much ruck time with Grundy there.

Untill he says he wants us, the cost is all theoretical... but if he does, Id say the Earth may not be enough as they would want the universe. It would take over 12 months of prep to get him, and he will need to be OOC

In which case we are left with doing nothing for 12 months. Probably just a continuation of what we have been doing.

If we're waiting 12 months forget it. Have a look at the number of players in our b22 who will be 32+ in 2023. He might be slightly easier to get but at that point we may as well be playing Sav/Fort while drip feeding Tsapatolis and Neale the odd game because they'll be tapping to a completely different midfield.

Until I hear otherwize I think its 12 months for Darcy ..hence the other discussions.

Sav/Fort. If Fort was good enough he would be rucking now. He is ready yet they do not pick him. Backup at best . Break glass type is the way they must see him

Sav if he can do what he did against Port, and stay fit would suffice. 2019 was his best year on games played. Can we rely on him playing each week?

The three younger players are probably 2024 realistically before they can be relied upon to be ready to play ruck minutes . If we take guys like Meek, Flynn etc into account . Meek 2017 draft. Flynn 2015 draft. Briggs 2018 draft . Sweet 2018 draft.

To me adding someone is required. Someone that has shown they are ready to play. If they are OOC then we probably trade for anyone as I don't think anyone bar Darcy will be overly expensive.
