Is it worth trying to get a ruck? As wouldn't CS play one anyway 🤷‍♂️ Should be giving Fort a month of games like we did to Esava to at least show what his got.
But by all means Fort is no Grundy or Darcy Nic Nat, but the poor bugger can't show what he can do if he don't get a game.... 🤷‍♂️

Id play fort now for sure but im unsure he is up to it and after the last 10 years of ruck issues we've had we need a more bankable option than that. Gosh i do wish we had Darcy or someone of that ilk in tjat age bracket. I expect we will trade for a ruck this year we almost have to.

Disagree. Dahl, Higgins and Close are crap. Evans and Miers and the only real small forwards on a list and even then Evans plays taller rather than smaller.

Dahl is fantastic value for his pressure but isnt elite everywhere else.

Higgins i agree but he will be gone in 2 years.

Close is very good and evans is a small forward and miers is best 22 easily.

Thats enough small forwards and they are easy to get late in the draft anyway.

We need to spend trade capital on the rucks its our obvious weakness.

Absolutely it is worth trading in a proven, durable ruckman.

We have gone into each finals series over the past few years not knowing who is our best ruckman is.

Stanley is too brittle and inconsistent.
Sav is IMO not a ruckman or at least
not a no 1 ruckman.
Blitz is a Blackman, pinch hitting ruckman at best.
Fort is a great versatile VFL ruckman that hasn’t really proven himself at senior level.
The rest are way too inexperienced.

Fort needs to be played or delisted. He can’t do much more than he already is in the twos.

That’s the problem, he’s never on the field.

Spot on, but... it hasn't been a reoccurence of the same injury, has it?

I mean, he did play in the scratch matches last year (or at least a few of them) so he lost valuable experience in 2020.

This year he does an ankle in a pre-season match and is gone for most of the season. Maybe his body isn't up for AFL, but it's a little early to base that off one - admittedly serious - injury.

I agree totally, but who is the proven ruckman that is out of contract?

Dahl really is poor at everything. Close is not a natural forward as evidenced by his .9 goals per game average. Evans is a medium flanker rather than a small forward. Miers is the only player on the list who can play like a genuine small forward.

No it’s been different injuries. But the frequency of them is alarming. Injury prone. Hopefully this is the last one he has and he can get on the field and show his worth.

Fair call - if he goes down next season with something, you'd have to start thinking of writing him off. As it is, 2021 is a no-go for him so hope the club help him recover 100%, then spend the rest of the year strengthening his body for a decent crack in the VFL come 2022.

so he not quite averaging a goal a game over 20 odd games.

Oh the shame lol.

Lets grab a bottle of Wyle E Coyote's Acme Insta forward and spray it all over him.

That'll fix it.

FFS some of the metrics people hang on to to define players, especially younger ones, are just plain ****ing barmy.

We all know Close is not a real small forward because he wears sleeves.

But to each their own. Carry on.

Going by that logic, Miers wasn't a natural forward last has as he only averaged 0.9 goals per game - or is it that he averaged 1.1 goals in 2019 & 1 goal per game this year that makes him a natural forward?

Close is 19 games into his career, so how we see how he's fairing when he gets closer to the 50 game mark, because right now he's playing a valuable role in the side

And as for being a "natural" forward - Shannon Byrnes averaged 0.9 goals across his career, and Varcoe 0.7 goals, and can't remember hearing either of those guys referred to as not being natural forwards

Judson Clarke from VC looks a great prospect. 5 goals today. Very classy.
Does that mean we might actually have a Clarke on a list, but then that he'd likely be referred to as Clark?

im not sure how a rolled ankle for high ankle sprain, after not ever having had one, can be his fault - or any contact type injury for that matter. They are just accidental IMO.

Now, if he tears a hammy running after a ball unabated, different story. But when someone collapses on a knee in a contest I have trouble adding that to a susceptible to injury theory. But thats clearly just me.

What you say is true but there are players who are clumsy and other players who always seem to be in a position to injured by others.

He's a small forward. Their job Is to kick goals consistently.

I wouldn't say he's crap but Miers is a better option.

And they won't drop Dahlhaus or Higgins.

We are screaming out for a pure small forward.
Genuine question. What is your threshold for kicking goals as a small foward per game after 18 games to be considered passable?

He's kicked 9 from 10 games this year. It's not kysiah pickett level 1.5 goals a game, but do you want to spend draft capital we could use on an actual ruck or a decent young mid to increase our score per game by one goal every second game?

I don't understand the criticism of close.

I'd be letting Stanley and Fort go at the end of the year if neither can make much of an impact or impress the MC with their development. Go after Meek from Freo. That would give us Meek and Blicavs as main rucks in 2022 with Ratugolea providing back up, and Neale and Tsapatolis as project rucks developing in the VFL.

Krueger has had a better run at it than cooper though. His injuries always seem to be small ones. But yeah they are fairly frequent. Plays 2 or 3, then he’s out for 2 or 3. Can’t get a clean run at it.
Cooper played all year last year. Just because we didn't see it on TV doesn't mean it didn't happen

Everyone will have to reset their autocorrects
But what happens if Clark is still on the list next year and we draft in Clarke - how are people going to handle 2 of them and which Clark/e will we know is being spoken about when Clarke is said?
