Robertson was the one that really had my head scratching... How we didn't go for him, has a massive motor, the type of player that leaves it all out on the ground.
Robertson has a lot great attributes. One of the minor knocks on him at the draft was his kicking skills. Everyone knew he could find the ball. This may have been a reason for why he drifted down in draft. I haven't seen a lot of Cooper Stephens, but I recall at the draft it was considered there wasn't a great deal of difference from him and other midfielder picks. So Cats went local. Lastly, we are all yet to witness Cooper Stephens upside. Apparently, he was playing very good footy before the leg injury.

An article that supports your conjecture..

StK. could have has Petrrica, Bontipelli and Naughton ... instead of McCartin, Billings and Clark/Coffield It hurts when the ball bounces the wrong way in multiple drafts
or worse still...

you make the right picks and they get hurt..

Menzel, Vardy, Bundy, Cowan - all could play but.......

Drafting is a very hard game.

Anyone you really like?

I am not sure what we do with the picks. We probably do not need 4 players in the 30-45 range. Do we trade into next year, do we trade picks to team that need points. Do we trade the picks for more in system talent.

Maybe I will be more enthused with this years draft once they play the champs.
I dont think we necessarily go high into Rd 1 - but maybe trade 2 of them to get to 15-20 range.
WE need to look at list management as well and retirements for list spots.

Are there really any dead set last season players right now? Last year was HT and GAJ - does Higgins go one and done? Jenkins? Does Stanley get let go?

And then there are Brownless, Jarvis, Narkle and Chook types that could be gone. Point is the number of open spots will also play into a little bit what decisions are made with picks.

IMO they want to be flexible and have options and if Wells get a target he wants... he'll go get it.

And that also includes trading picks for points and future picks. And to that, Holmes seems to be panning out well enough thus far to have validated the 2021 RD1 trade out for him. I was one that scratched the head a little but so far so good so id trust Wells in the process going the other way and gaining Future picks for points in 2022.

Sounds about right. There is a lot of suck and see about it... maybe we just have to wait for the season to play out. How the club assesses their situation etc. Its very much a mid group of kids from what I have seen, a lot of the tastier talls got taken mid season draft. The next few weeks may see someone pop as a target but atm, I do not see anyone that would be a great add to us.

Does the club see a natural progression still on track. How our list is moving. If they were planing for this player of that to be added and it has not happened .. then do we look elsewhere or persist with youth?

I suspect we have a bit of none and done, a bit of dead wood and a bit undesirable churn but thats the cost of doing the way we have.

If we trade two picks to get earlier , the best I see us getting is mid teens. Maybe thats OK, but we do not have a great record with picks in that range. Not having a R1 next year, when hopefully there is a better handle on the talent may be the way to go. It depends on when we decided to really peel the onion back. There will be tears when we do.

If Jenkins is seriously wanting games he should he to GC or somewhere like that, he is still too good for VFL.

Geelong defender Jed Bews and emerging midfielder Cooper Stephens have both put pen to paper to extend their time at GMHBA Stadium.

GEELONG defender Jed Bews and emerging midfielder Cooper Stephens have both put pen to paper to extend their time at GMHBA Stadium.
Bews, who has played 117 games since making his debut in 2014, has signed for a further three years, while Stephens has extended his contract by two years.

Geelong football manager Simon Lloyd said the pair was deserving of the new deals.

“Both Jed and Cooper are highly valued players and we are pleased to have them locked away with new contracts,” Simon Lloyd said.

“They play the game the right way, they are highly committed and diligent in their approach to being AFL footballers.

“We look forward to Jed and Cooper being significant contributors in the upcoming seasons.”

Bews has established himself as a regular contributor to the Geelong defence and his new deal means he will have been at Geelong longer than his father, former club captain Andrew, by the time his career comes to an end.

Stephens was the Cats first selection in the 2019 national draft but while injuries and the Covid impacted 2020 season have limited his opportunities he is seen as a player of huge potential within Geelong. - LACHIE YOUNG

Don’t mind Zuthrie for that depth , but I could understand if he’s cut

I meant Cam who is a UFA.

I think zac would be 50/50 depending on list sizes.

I'll articulate this as best as I can.

I'm just back from my sons footy training. His coach is also the interleague coach.
My son, the coach, and I were discussing drills.

And for some reason I referenced Geelong with regards to a drill. We finished the conversation and the coach said.
"So you're a cats supporter. Who was the guy that broke his ankle?"

I stared into the distance and 5 seconds later the coach and I both said "Snell"

His mouth was wide open. He paused and said 'oh boy, you've got to see this kid. Under 15's. Plays for yarraville. Plays midfield, he's 6ft 2, and he is lightning"

Gulp.
No father son.

I think we are going to the interleague on Wednesday, I'll have a look.

Its a year for non father sons... I thought Snell was a leg..but whatever it was a road crash. I remember he came in to work and did a talk. 60 odd games.

It was an ankle.
I can still remember being in the medallion club and he did an interview for all.
He still thought he'd get back.

That was one bad ankle.

I think it was Gary Hocking who said Snell's injury was the worst thing he saw on a football field..compound breaks are not a pretty sight.

AFL Rich 100 2021: Joel Selwood’s insane sacrifice to secure Cameron trade
Joel Selwood is already regarded as one of the Cats’ greatest players and most influential leaders, but what he did to land the Jeremy Cameron deal goes above it all.

Inspirational Geelong captain Joel Selwood has made a six-figure sacrifice in the final years of his contract to help the Cats land superstar free agent Jeremy Cameron.
The star onballer remains one of the Cats’ most important players but is on a modest contract worth about $550,000 this year to help Geelong balance its books.

Significantly, Selwood’s deal has helped give Geelong enough room to land Cameron who was the biggest free agency signing in the game last year.

Cameron, who has made an excellent start to the season after hamstring setbacks, signed a six-year contract to help spearhead Geelong in its quest for a fourth flag since 2007.

The Coleman medallist could be the difference to a side which fell short to Richmond in last year’s decider as the Dustin Martin-inspired Tigers clinched back-to-back pennants.
