7 is worth 1644 which is about two early 20s picks or say a mid-teen and a mid-20s pick. Maybe you get a bit more for giving up the early pick.

We would have to see how other deals play out.

Closest at the moment are:

  • WC have 20+26=1641
  • Brisbane have 15+34=1656

I have no idea if they are in the market or not.

Brisbanes picks will go on dunkley and i doubt bowes would agree to go to perth so what picks wce has irrelevant.

I do get your point though and ess and hawthorn can probably offer gc a better deal in picks and a better wage to bowes. That said it doesnt matter if bowes says 'trade me to geelong or im staying'.

Bit of talk in here about whether player X or player Y is best 22 at Geelong. I think we'll see Geelong try and replicate a similar list management approach in '23 as they did this year. Depth will be a key factor again.

Players on the wrong side of 30 will be very carefully managed again, and they'll try and play a reasonably deep squad of players through their best 22. When you consider how many games Rohan / Dangerfield / etc missed / or were held back from, I think the club will try and take a very similar path. Give blokes a rest when needed and get them right for another tilt at finals ....... but carefully manage when and who gets managed and have a similar type player come in and handle being exposed to senior footy.

Everyone outside Geelong focuses on the fact that Geelong "got lucky" with injuries etc ...... but they overlook the type of players we had on the fringe and could have played finals (or more finals) if required ...... Ceglar / Menegola / Parfitt / Stephens / Esava / Dahlhaus.

Fast forward to next year and there's potentially the following players who are more than capable of playing a role who might not be automatic selections each week - Ceglar / Stephens / Menegola (if not traded) / Esava (if not traded) / Ollie Henry / Jack Bowes / Tanner Bruhn / Toby Conway / Knevitt. Players who are all capable of coming in and playing solid AFL footy when we have injuries / or players being managed.

Despite what some outside the club might think, I reckon Geelong's list is pretty well balanced and overall in good shape.

Id have thought GWS will be deep with picks... and the have show in the past they are willing to be generious to move up. Be good to get Bruhn done before we have 7 in that case.

They will have 12 and 19 for Taranto. Something for Hopper. Something for Hill. I doubt they will be able to use all they gain.

It was more a theoretical about what we do with 7 ..after we gain it.

No wasn’t suggesting he’d go to WA. This is just if we get hold of pick 7 and decide to split it who are the options for that trade.

Yes good points.

The team trading the earlier pick always comes out ahead points-wise when trading out that single pick for multiple later picks.

Clubs seem to need to pay well overs in terms of points to get that much better pick.

I'm not gonna speculate about #7 until Bowes officially nominates us... Because I just think there's a long way to go before we even have it and the way we are talking about like it basically is already in our pocket has too much room to disappoint us if Bowes selects another club.

Fingers crossed we get him over the line though.

Yep agree with all of that including the last para.

It’s likely that the hold up in all of this is the background manoeuvring by the club to ensure we can get it all done. Bowes is not going to nominate us before knowing that the club is able to get the deal done.

A bit like Joel Corey and Mitch Duncan, Menegola may be from Perth but the link has worn away over the years. Deep roots in Geelong now. Loves the club. Don’t be so sure he wants out.

Young family, another on the way and has just built a new house in Geelong. I'm not sure if his partner is a local girl but they are pretty happy here from what I know.
I personally wouldn't be fussed if he wanted to look elsewhere, but can't see him packing up and going back to WA in a hurry

If we go B2B, there's chance it will be with a somewhat different lineup, simply because we won this year with the oldest team ever and age and injuries might be a bigger factor next season. I hope Bowes bears this in mind when he makes his decision' otherwise he could go elsewhere in order to be guaranteed AFL selection, taking pick 7 with him.

Meanwhile I've read nothing to suggest he's nominated any club yet.

GWS going out... Hill, Hopper, Taranto, Bruhn.

GWS coming in (maybe)... Toby Bedford.

lol...Surely they need to use those picks they will get on some ready made players.

They would be shocking deals, it may be equal points wise but they are not good deals. I can’t imagine any team trading a top 10 picks for those picks.

Im certain Geelong would be happy to have him on our list but they may also say to him they will probably be attempting to play more youth... and it might be harder to get a deal done in 12 moths time. Maybe someone offers him 2 or 3 at a good rate to move..

then again, he may think he is still in the best, especially when fully fit and wnat to stay somewhere he knows and will be contending..even if it means he is OOC in 12 months time
