Knew it. Scott was lavishing him with praise as per usual in the aftermath of the GF - so he was never going. We have literally no other KPD depth, and everyone at the club loves him, so no sense trading him until his contract is up. Very happy about this actually, as I wanted to see how he'd go given more time in that role, and the pick we would get would be next to useless anyway :)

McKay signing a monster deal for Carlton means another Chunk of their cap they can’t give Tom Dekoning😉

We have delisted a ruck

McKay signs mega deal

Just how much is Dekong woth contracted compared to uncontracted?

It would take a lot to convince Carlton id have thought but P7 and P20?

Bowes should choose Geelong if he wants game time in my opinion. He hasn't become the player he expected at Gold Coast so why go to another average team in Essendon, Hawthorn and North.

Learn from Danger, Guthrie, Blitz, Duncan as they transition. It's his best possibility to become the player he would hope to be. Who's he going to learn from at Essendon? Heppell?

I didn't even think of that. Henry, Bruhn, Bowes and use P7 for Dekoning. Talk about a refresh.

They would be shocking deals, it may be equal points wise but they are not good deals. I can’t imagine any team trading a top 10 picks for those picks.
I did mention getting more for giving up the early pick. I was simply showing the teams that had the kind of picks that put them in the frame.

He wants to play his best role ...its a common concern... only so many spots. But our age profile would present a chance one would think if he is good enough.

Wouldn't want to use P7 like that. Wait til he's out of contract and the Blues have less leverage. Plus, we don't have an immediate need for a ruckman so no need to pay a premium for a contracted player.

(That's if - and it's a big IF - he even wants to leave Carlton for Geelong.)

Nooo... Hope not.
Pick 7 are for real guns.
TDK is not a gun. SDK is. A bit like Gary jnr and Nathan... Big difference. lol.

GGC ... Im confident that if Carlton agreed and we had space in cap and on list we would do that. He is a young ruck, still only 23 and 40 games ..still on the up. Maybe we wait 12 months... and OOC would be cheaper... but his the right age for our needs id have thought.

Gary Jr and Nathan .... we know who was the most talented but it's not just talent is it.

I dunno Turbo ... reckon Bowes goes close to walking into that Bombers line-up, whereas I could see him struggling to stay on the fringe at Geelong.

If I'm Bowes and I'm looking to actually rack up some games next year, I'm probably going with Essendon - depends on how much of appetite he has for a challenge. Because if he wants to back himself in and is looking to play Finals next year .. then he might nominate us. Big call.

Bomber Thompson and Cam Mooney both quoted as saying Nathan had more talent than anyone else they'd seen come through the doors at the club. Not even a contest. Nathan was a freak athlete but had zero interest in a long term career as a professional athlete.

Bowes will nominate Geelong.

Only hold up is completing due diligence and meeting with clubs who expressed an interest. Has already toured Geelong and met with senior players and coaches.

Wouldn't take both I would assume. Pick 7 alone for a guy who doesn't get consistent game time, would probably be about right. Personally though, I'd rather wait until he is OOC next year, and see how Carlton play him/what his desire is to leave

I read somewhere over the weekend that Tom De Koning is ecpected to sign a long-term extension before next season.

Motivation and durability are skills.

Often overlooked, but crucial nonetheless.

I have been on about single figure picks ..what seems like years. I maintain a club the Premiership side almost always has a single figure pick that they have drafted ... when was the last club that won a flag without a single figure pick they drafted? Maybe Syd in 05? Not sure but it was long time ago....

That may be changing due to the fluidity of the market. If Horne Francis lands at Port it will not matter that they did not draft him. Bruhn and Henry will be good... but neither were considered single figure picks in their draft... so there is that... but that stuff can being flexible. If Sam Deking was on the open market now imagine what he would be worth.

If we have P7 ..and somehow we keep it. Great. Go to draft take one one of several players that appeal. Id think Mackenzie would almost push to play like Holmes did.

If we have P7 and somehow split it that might have a huge upside as well.

Do we split and use it to get Bruhn and Henry. It probably leaves us with P21 and etc. I think thats probably a little wasteful. The Ralph deal seems a better way to go if we get it done that way.

If we can use it in way to still get a us decent pick this year and a R1 next year... that might be something that could have Cameron like outcome. Lets think 12 months time. If we are serious about getting a OOC player next year ..having two R1 picks ..is a way to plan for that. It would give us a serious hand to ask about Tom Dek for example. I dont know what our cap situation will be like next year but retirements to come one would think we would have dollars.

Im not sure who we would split it with bu P7 gives us options. GWS? They will have a lot of picks.

P7 for basically little is a huge bonus. IF WE GET IT.

If you were to split 7 it would be (with later pick swaps if needed)
14 and 17 syd
12 and 19 (gws via rich)
11 and 15 bulldogs (assuming 15 for dunkley)

Not saying we should just pointing out the options.

Dons just makes sense to me... So I'm not getting my hopes up thinking about #7.

I will say that if he doesn’t come to us that at least we can perhaps use that saved $$$ on someone else in the future.

So whilst it'll feel like we are losing out on a prime #7 pick... missing on Bowes/7 will open up other opportunities.

It was in the same breath as saying McKay would too. 👀
