Just my opinion - re Henry next year - he will be at Geel or Coll - i dont think he will burn Coll

There was no angst between him and Coll - where as Clark and Geel - there was - is he getting a fair go - apparently friction between him and Scarlett

None of that hapened with Henry and Coll - he looked happy/popular with his team mates - he simply lost his spot with about 3 weeks to go

Mackie was 2002. after 1999 joel Corey and 2001 Jimmy Bartel. If we have having this discussion in 2024... Im with you have might just pull a name earlier...

Seriously thats a long time ago. All clubs no names a lot better now. When was the last time anyone called a name in the top10 that was a total surprise.
I do love though that we need to go back 15-20 years to discuss our top 10 draft picks.

Guessing or actually know his situation within the club?

yep-15-20 years ... So much time has passed

It's a different world now. So much more attention.

I think Holmes caught a couple of us by surprise but he was 23 in CalT's draft

You are treading a fine line here friend. How do you think Id go on your board call your staff flogs?

Next time I have someone bring in a tray of yoyos and napkins , treat you all nicely with smiles and the right amount of benevolence..

... and then offer the deal we got for Krueger 41 for 55 type deal....

...but enjoy the yoyo's and the benevolence
The idea that Collingwood's trading team said or even thought "who is this flog" about Andrew Mackie, a 3 time premiership played including the 2011 grand final between Geelong and Geelong, might happen in a b-grade Hollywood movie. Geelong under Wells has a reputation for doing win-win trades. Hard to believe Mackie is attempting to destroy that reputation.

Agree. While it is fun for us to speculate (otherwise what is the point of the fourm!) out of last years crop I suspect we collectively only had Toby as a possible. All the rest were ransoms including Dempsey who may be the best of all of them. So we will all be wrong again this year?

slight difference this year though with a puck 7 (first time in 16 years!) is that maybe they choose more obvious talent?

To be fair i had knevitt but that was because i wanted him for us i didnt have many friends on that one 😂

But willis and kroeger and whyte were very off the track picks that no one predicted.

But i do think its easier to predict the pick when its top 10 than much later.
In reality a lot of people have the top 7 (8 with ashcroft) as ashcroft cadman wardlaw sheezel tsatas clark humphrey and mckenzie and we will probably pick whoever is still there.
But any changes in who the clubs before us take could change it as would if any of hollands busslinger ginbey hewett hotton etc push up into the top group.
If all the guys we want at 7 are gone i wouldnt be surprised if we live trade back either.
So it is hard to predict but less hard than usual if that makes sense 😂

It would be a totally different discussion... if we said...who would we take at 25 ... if we got Henry thru a differnt trade.

After the combine testing.... the kid I liked in the champs would be there about Binns., and MaxG impressed me with the way he stopped for Hayes in the 2K. Showed character.
I have not seen vertical results but id like to know his spring.

Good to see the AFL has finally clarified this:
Under League rules, clubs can trade out a future first-round draft selection but if they do that, must retain the rest of their future selections for that draft. If they trade out a second, third or fourth-round future pick, they must hold their first-rounder for that year.

Important clarification. I always (wrongly) thought it was just the first/second that couldn’t be traded together.

Still think there’s a play where we swap future picks with GC so that we comply with the rule.

So we have GC so far over a barrel that they're going to have to cop our FR3 pick for 7 & Bowes.

LOL

Not necessarily.
They can still ask for our future 1st for 7 bowes and their fr2 and fr4 back to us-but i dount they will.
It means collingwood dont have much room to move with us though.

This is true. Graham Wright just needs to focus on the strategic objectives. The flogness, or otherwise, of Mackie is just a distraction.

I see you have come to the Cat Board and thrown the tem "flog" around and applying it to Geelong people....

I could easily sanction you but given we are Premiers and your team isnt, and the good will flowing from our success. I wont apply a sanction right now..but that will change if you come in here again or respond to this post...

So...on your way...and please..don't test me.

I assume the wording "their" really means "their" and not anyone elses.
IF you trade one out you've got to replace it if you wish to trade a first and another pick from that draft.

If we want to now trade our future 1st, we have to bring in a future 2nd and future 4th to enable that to happen.

Could see GC reaching for Hollands at 5.

Yeah he was. I remember Emma Quayle correctly predicted it though. She must have heard a whisper we were keen, but IIRC no other expert had him going that high..

Just had a look it was Cal T 1st draft no mention in top30 .... but thats the difference. Ten years ago is a long time with the attention that now is given.... and the first round single figures are far more known now.
