Yeah hard to like Degoey!!
He disliked one player. Didhams, in any workplace there will be some folks you don't like, doesn't mean you should change jobs. That's a furphy, and so is the desire to play in a team with your brother. Ollie got overlooked for various reasons in the latter half of the year. It's up to him to rectify that, give them a reason to pick you. Collingwood are a prestigious club, they'll be playing finals again next year and beyond.

Johnson was vastly overrated.

And he was the invisible man in the prelim. If they had played a carbon rod in his place they probably would have won.

Henry is a better player right now, and Collingwood screwed up by playing Johnson. It cost them big time.
Almost as overrated as O Henry.

If you google some of the vic metro basketball stuff he was tiny (I mean really small as 16/17 yo)…mid150cm! I think a reason why Cats took a chance as they were amazed he could compete at that elite level with such a height disadvantage. He then grew year 11 and 12 from that to the 185cm he was listed at draft and I think they hope he may have a few more cm in him…who knows.

edit. This is one image I found. Ollie in the middle. Same age as everyone else but tiny….The person on far left is Marcus Winghager from St Kilda
Holy hell that is in the middle is playing in the same side? Jeebus

If we can obtain a f3 from port for Sav then surely we could send two F3 to GC for Bowes that will give more points than a F2 anyway so should appease the AFL

Why would we trade Sav who is contracted and our only tall backup (who showed a lot of promise as a key back in our most dire positional need) for a future 3rd (pick 50ish?

We already have a future third to give GC.

Would be a terrible trade what you suggest

It seems the trauma runs deep with this one.
If there's one thing I love about trade period is watching the stars of grief play out in real time.

There's people in the anger stage being talked down by bargaining, some went straight to acceptance and others are in denial and will be until the trade happens.

It's great for people watching

Cause next year our draft will be R1 then R5

I never buy the argument of a weak draft, plenty of potentially good players aren't even considered a part of the draft pool, Close wasn't, Dempsey wasn't.
Also understates the value of development, guys like Z.Guthrie added nothing to the perceived value of the draft pool. There were 100 guys like Brad Close around until we turned him into an AFL player, there are 100 guys like Z.Guthrie in the U18s each year until we nurtured him into an AFL player. There are probably 10-30 or so Menegola's Tim Kelly's and Tom Stewarts out there, and every team has in the 2nd tier has a Tom Atkins' or two.

There are probably a thousand or so people nominating. Good scouting will find the one that has the mindset to take advantage of the environment. List management is about about is about identifying the need the player is to fill if not now than in three years.
I agree. They only thing I do buy is maybe a stronger first round or not. I think they do get it mostly right with knowing whether this 10-15 year are better than last or next. Beyond that as you say there are so many variables - and Geelong has proven more than most to be able to pick and develop those outside of the norm!

But maybe if cats list management believed there was a much stronger first dozen next year they could think about pick 7 in that context given we only seem to get one in top 10 every 15 years? For all other picks it doesnt matter

If Sav gets a gig as best 22 somewhere we shouldn't stand in his way. If you have any love for the man and the cats culture let him go

Let’s trade out all of our players who aren’t “best 23”

Cos injuries never happen
Agree, the original comment grossly underestimated the value of Parfitt. As Chris Scott said after the game, Parfitt would have to be the best substitute to have played in a grand final. A lot of people rate Parfitt highly especially insiders at the club.

Far out he must have had some ridiculous skills to be included looking at that pic.

Esava for Dursma sounds good to me, some good points made in the article.
I like Esava and it’s be sad to see him in another jumper. I don’t think we should let him go unless we are going to gain something from it.
As the article points out it’s hard to see a pick the power have that would make it worthwhile for Geelong.
Next year when he’s out of contract he will have either shown he can play that defensive role and get a new contract or won’t and we’d get nothing of value for him.

Duursmas not going after his sister just chose to go to SA to join him in the draft.
Bergman maybe but not to us.
I dont think port have the currency to get all their deals done.

Ralph ,,what more can you say... The media is becoming a mouth piece to put pressure on clubs this is the second time aligned media mouths have had a go at us in this period...

Geelong is making promises to Esava Ratugolea it knows it cannot keep.

It is telling the 24-year-old there is a meaningful role for him next year after only four AFL games in 2022.

The problem for Ratugolea, a newly re-cast intercept defender after two dominant VFL games in rounds 20 and 21, is that there are just so many star-studded teammates ahead of him.

In defence he is behind Tom Stewart, Sam De Koning, Jack Henry, Jake Kolodjashnij and part-time defender Mark Blicavs.

In the ruck when Blicavs isn’t playing the ruck-rover role there are Rhys Stanley, John Ceglar and the emerging Toby Conway.

If Ratugolea has to wait until Tom Hawkins retires it might be 2025 until he gets a decent crack at it alongside Jeremy Cameron, Gary Rohan, Brad Close and co.

In any other situation Geelong would do what premiership sides or dominant teams have with frustrated depth players and allowed him to prosper elsewhere.

Bailey Humphrey

Midfielder/Forward, VIC

Age: 11/09/04
Weight: 86kg
Height: 184cm
Club: Vic Country/Gippsland Power/ Moe NFC/ Lowanna College

2022 National Champs74 ranking points, 11 disposals, 3 inside-50s, 2 marks, 1 goal, 8 score involvements, 3 tackles (one game)
2022 NAB League132 ranking points, 19.8 disposals, 4.5 inside-50s, 5.7 marks, 4.2 clearances, 1.9 goals, 7.3 score involvements, 4.6 tackles (11 games)

A powerful midfielder-forward, Humphrey has excited recruiters despite missing a significant chunk of football this year. He is a real competitor who attacks the ball ferociously, has seriously quick breakaway speed from stoppages and is a neat kick on both feet. When playing forward, he is a strong mark in the contest and is dangerous around goals. Humphrey suffered a meniscus tear in his knee in May, which meant he missed Vic Country’s first three games of the under-18 national championships. However, he made a stunning return to the field for Gippsland Power in the NAB League in Round 14, logging 31 disposals (14 contested), 12 marks, 14 score involvements and four goals. He went on to boot another four goals in the final home-and-away round, before playing in Vic Country's last match of the national championships against Vic Metro and catching the eye with some moments of brilliance. Humphrey finished third in the NAB League's Morrish Medal count and was named in a forward pocket in the NAB League Boys Team of the Year.

Think this kid has huge damaging upside.

Would love to get GCs Pick 5 to get this guy.

I think given how valuable and rare ready to go key defenders are at the moment and he is literally our only backup option besides a 18Yo kid we draft as a rookie or late pick, he is surely worth a second round pick to let go. All the factors need to be taken into consideration with his worth under contract.

Just won a flag, look like nailing the trade period. We should all be cockahoop.
Not trying to get guys banned for soft stuff. Two sent packing for very little imo.

As a group we should harden up a little.
Enjoy the wondrous trade period that is unfolding and not let the little things irritate.

Sav is only 24. We used to accept that key position players wouldn't hit their straps until their mid 20s. One good preseason and Sav might surprise all the doubters. I've seen enough of him to know what he can do. I think Hinkley at PA is as good as anyone to unlock that potential.
