It's a fair question...but it seems both Pies and GWS were demanding first round picks for Henry and Bruhn respectively. So there was always going to be one unhappy party as we clearly don't want to trade our FR1..

I think we've prioritised Bruhn as we committed to him much earlier than Henry and he was a P12 only two years ago and we seem very keen on further buidling and transitioning our midfield.

GWS have shown recently they can be difficult (Cameron) and I'm not sure they'd be any better to deal with than the Pies if we didn't offer a round 1.

Personally, I reckon we committed our first round this year to Bruhn some weeks ago. Henry and his manager is a bit late to the party (according to Mackie this was a recent thing) as we missed Hopper, so IMO, we have prioritised Tanner here..

I get that on late to the party bit.

It ll just seems clunky to me ... and GWS were probably owed a little bit of pay back after matching Cameron.

That's honestly my read on this now too. Dangerous game though, as Pies could just go nuclear and then go 'yep fine we won't deal, at the last moment' and then we haven't put the Bowes trade through. Not that it would happen, but seems to be a bit of a mess how this is all turning out now.

More importantly, gonna be 2 more f*cking days of this crap, lol
Pies can only play hard ball if Henry was contracted. They have twice had the chance to offer a good trade to Henry and they've ****ed it up both times.

Are they wanting us to up the ante so the can use it on Mitchell?

We'll get our payback on GWS when we have them over a barrel, and make no mistake that day will come.

GC took Gazza (for nuthin') 10 years ago, they are paying the piper this week.

Just heard Callum Twomey, asked about Sav, say "Sav did some really exciting things down back". Nothing against Sav but this is surely hyperbole: Sav got a few kicks in the VFL and a mark or 2 in an AFL game playing down back.

He might make it as a back but it's not guaranteed on the evidence to date.

If the Bowes trade is for a future R3 as suggested, am I right in saying next year we would have our future R1 and then essentially nothing?

I can see a few retirements next year, will have to get creative to fill some of those list spots.

Its true but I suspect we can find a few late picks to add to our list . Dempsey for one is a Rookie ..if we get desperate we can alway add him. to make up our picks.

If pies won’t release Henry to us for 25, I’d be happy to walk away and try again in 12 months.

Wouldn’t be giving up anymore than 25
Guess what, we don't have anymore than 25 next year

We have little power over GWS... They are losing a millions players and have a millions picks already.

The Pies on the other hand are bringing players in and are not in a position where they can afford to flush a decent pick down the toilet (like GWS possibly could).

Also... We may just rate Bruhn higher internally.

Thats it, next year our draft hand will be Rd1, Rd5, Rd6

It’s remarkable the way his one game in the backline has gained momentum.

I wonder if these people genuinely know football or just read bigfooty

Sounds like a future second rounder linked to Nth and a future third rounder linked to Freo.

Nah norths r2 will be basically 20 next year if port get that back with jhf for 8 and fr1 thats a steal. It would be wce that are getting the better pick ie the earlier r2 for giving up 2 surely? I reckon port will get coll fr2 (via gws) which will be mid 30s and probably offer that for sav.

Be interesting to see if we say yes or no but for sure they make a renewed sav offer once the mega trade is done.

There is only 45-50 players selected each year now (ie less than 3 rounds) . It reads far worse than it is.

If we finished top 4 the opportunity cost is about 15 kids max. Losing the 1st round pick would have been alarming.

1st round pick, rookie upgrade, free agent and a couple of back end draft picks and the list fills quickly. Plus there is always room to bring in picks with trades next year.

Those words were uttered about Zach Guthrie & Tom Atkins not so long ago.
How quickly another season or two changed everything.
Patience... The club has got a great grip on these things IMO.

Yeah if the bowes is fr3 we will have r1 and then nothing til r5 (say 80s) unless sav is traded for an fr2/3 now.

But tbh im not concerned about that for two reasons.
1. We are going to have really good depth next year so guys who arent getting games will ask for trades end 2023-for eg if thats sav and say stephens and 1 other we can bring in picks for trading them.
2. Its a good free agency market next year and if we have a few retirements it will be a lot of cap space to bring in good FAs which will lessen the need to use late r5/6/7 picks.

Did Lachie Fogarty force his way out? I can't remember. We cut bait on him early enough and it was the right call.
Yes he did from memory.
