Hawthorn might take Clark in the hope that he'll form a synergy with Stephens via the falcons connection.

We've got picks 18 and 92 as it sits in next year's draft. Who knows who's going to retire. Getting another first round pick might be beneficial particularly if Clark is taken at 6.
This way we get Hotton (for example) this year and take two firsts next year for a couple of talls.
Hotton fits in with the philosophy of adding pace to the list, which was reported to be a priority after losing the 2020 grand final.

We are fans of him too apparently.
My crystal ball has 3 scenarios that could play out -
1. Clark is available and we just take him. Done.
2. Clark has been taken earlier and we hold the pick and take either MacKenzie or Busslinger (well, there’s 2 scenarios there if you are being pedantic..)
3. We trade down for a pick in the teens and a FF and take Hotton.
They are the likely scenarios in my head atm.
I'm still convinced that Hawthorn will select Clark and we'll trade down with Sydney for 14/17 and a Future pick for pick 7
Or with Melbourne for their 13.
We ain’t trading down from pick 7 whether Clark is there or not.
Not following you?

They could but clark worpel newcombe stephens nash and ward is very samey player type wise. Really only mcdonald offers them any variety there.
I think next season we will likely see the back 6 rotations of SDK, Bews, Kolo/Zuthrie, Henry, Stewart, Tuohy/Duncan and then against certain teams we will see our ruck drop to CHB while Blicavs runs around doing Blicavs things.I think we have seen some glimpses of Dekoning being able to play forward.
But he’s just so natural in defence I wouldn’t want to move him. I don’t really like switching players too much.
I thought it upset Henry’s game this year to be moved forward and back.
Not helped by the injuries he had of course, Henry had a great season the year before and should continue to develop his game as a leader down back.
Ben McKay would be a perfect target next year. He’s at a great age who would partner really well with Dekoning.

I’m thinking that with Parfit and Bruhn in maybe Clark is there, but if not we look for another mid who is different to them, then someone like Phillapou is the kind of option that would offer good inside and especially outside variety.
Bulldogs now have a very strong set of tall forwards, especially with Lobb/Naughton/Ugle-Hagan.Do we really need another monster KPD? DeKoning is capable of playing on the no.1 forwards and it’s rare that a team has two massive big guys in the forward 50 these days. I thought our balance in def 50 was terrific this year with Henry taking the second tall and Stewart and Z.Guthrie being the interceptors. None of these guys are 30 yet. I just can’t see the need atm.
We do need to get another young guy to develop and for depth. But I’m struggling to see, unless someone gets injured, how someone like McKay gets a game for us?
Re gc and ollie hollands no specific mail seems to be in the media its more just logic as it would help them retain elijah...in hindsight they should have taken both kings in 2018 not rankine..so this time they might take the brothers.
I do agree they might look at trading next years 1st if they think it will go on an academy bid anyway.
Why do we need a lot of players next year? We have just drafted 3 AFL ready young players, plus pick 7. We have lost only Selwood from the flag team, with Holmes and Menegola missing out.We have an fr1 next year and then nothing til the 80s (though no doubt we will trade players for picks). So trading 7 for a teens pick this year and an fr1 would help fix our lack of 2023 picks.
What’s your thoughts on S.Neale being Hawks replacement?Geez we have a mightily exciting forwardline emerging.
Just need a big bull to replace Hawkins at some point and watch out!
Next years potency could be Hawkins, Jezza, Stengle, Henry, Close, Miers, Dangerfield.
No one will replace Hawk, and as we tend to do, our fwd line structure and play will change when Hawk retires. Neale is a KPF replacement by virtue of his physical attributes. Watching him this year though he plays nothing like Hawk. I generally hate comparing young players, but in this case Neale plays like Naughton from the dogs. Crashes packs, sticky hands, good shot on goal. Should be a great compliment for Jezza and O. HenryWhat’s your thoughts on S.Neale being Hawks replacement?
I think we likely see 5 retirements next year. Maybe more. Why do we need a lot of players next year? We have just drafted 3 AFL ready young players, plus pick 7. We have lost only Selwood from the flag team, with Holmes and Menegola missing out.
Ceglar hardly played, there are no obvious retirements (unlike Dahl and Higgins) but some will go, if Simpson is back to full fitness, he will be contending next year and beyond, Neale, Conway and Dempsey look good, and the 3 injured 2021 draftees all have potential.
We have a first rounder next year, future picks to use, free agency and trades from our bulging list.
If McKenna joins, even better.
Plus we have a sweep up pick 58 and 2/3 rookie picks this year.
I don’t see the point of trading a near certainty good player in pick 7 for a speculative later teens pick and a speculative future pick, just to get further into the 2023 draft.
I agree that the defence looked the best it had in years partly because of having a smaller more agile defensive group. But Dekoning and McKay are both young and can hold down the defensive posts without causing any issues.Do we really need another monster KPD?
