I have no inside info... but come draft night and come our pick and Jhye Clark hasn't been taken we are 99% chance we will be selecting him.. in my eyes there is nothing more certain than that..

And if he's gone before our pick, just as certain we get him 2 years later anyway.I have no inside info... but come draft night and come our pick and Jhye Clark hasn't been taken we are 99% chance we will be selecting him.. in my eyes there is nothing more certain than that..
Sounds like you rate Caddy. I thought he was a really poor mid; coughed the ball up way too easily under pressure. Could not make it as a mid with us, nor at Richmond. Better as an opportunistic medium fwd. I get he has 2 premierships to his name, but an example of great timing.Let’s be honest, we’d all be over the moon with either of:
Phillipou (reminds me of bont)
Clark (reminds me of viney)
Mackenzie (Parker)
Humphrey (caddy)
Tsatas (Guthrie )
Ginbey (crisp)
The above is also my order of preference. I’d also prefer one of the above instead of 2 mid/late teen picks. Take pick 7(8) to the draft.
I think the club is hoping for Clark and Mackenzie is the backup. The more I think about the more Mackenzie feels like a player Geelong would select
After matching etc our picks look like being #8 # 53 & #56
I’d love to get a hold of Mitch Szybkowski watching the VIC Country games. He’s just always in the play and got his hands on the first touch clearance more times than Clark in the two full games I watched. (Yes limited) also had some real AFL traits with speed and is a beautiful short kick. Never tries to do too much.
He was sick at the end of the year but if he slides into the 40s it’s a shame we don’t have much ammo left to jump up and grab him.
We also must grab a tall and probably another with our Rookie pick. Esava is cover back, Fwd and ruck but he could be gone in 12 months. The way we play you can get away with 192ish defenders as long as you SDK healthy. We need to grab one of Lemmey, Keeler, Northam, McMullin, Van Es, Scully, or Foster
Foster, Scully and Lemmey all look like they have AFL qualities. Scully and Lemmey can do anything but are they competitive enough?? You can’t have a soft fwd in todays game. Foster marks absolutely everything and is very hard but a few rough areas like his kicking and maybe pace. Reminds me of Rohan Marshall.
Love to get Van Es as a rookie. He’s athletic. Backs himself. Great kick. Takes kickins. I know he’s already physically developed and ppl hate when he’s mostly playing on sticks in the U/18s but he can seriously play. I just reckon he will play a lot of AFL footy

I kind of don't mind that it isn't, at 18 ...Good pick up Johnny Cattery - caught up with a few guys who were all over the U18 champs - a couple rated Hewett as the most talented of the WA crop with a very high ceiling. Keeping his head in the game consistently seemed to be the only knock but that could be sorted in a professional program ?
My concern with Clark is that I just don't think he is a safe pick for us. Between us trading in Bruhn and Bowes and our midfield heavy draft last year, we're overcommitted to the inside midfield area of the ground. With Duncan, Tuohy and Smith all being 32 and older, another Holmes, one of those taller skinny flanker types, who could move to the inside later in their career seems like a more natural area to target.

I think two minutes worth of highlights from one game carries a lot more weight than two minutes worth of highlights from the entire season.Im sure most of the top player can have 2m vid to show their best attributes. It whether those highlights can be reproduced against better opposition... and then there is the component of drafting that is not in the vid. Just what type person are you drafting. What is their resiliance like. How do they cope with not being the best in the side. What do you bring to the club in the way of harmony. What is his training standard like. Leadership potential etc etc.

I dont see it that way. Clark bruhn and bowes are all very different types of mids so i think there is room for all three and besides holmes and parfitt all of our starting 23 mids are basically 28 or older so theres a lot of room for midfielders. To me we need mids and another kpd (we are desperate for one and thats the only reason sav wasnt traded) much more than we need a flanker.

Elijah Hewett has been marked down due to poor numbers playing senior WAFL all year but in one game against his peers he showed against Vic Metro what he’s capable of. I would imagine this would be due to playing a lesser role with more seasoned teammates taking the prime roles in the midfield at WAFL level. I would be interested to hear from some of our WA posters who may have seen him play WAFL.
For the most part, the fans don’t hear the players interviewed prior to the draft. It astounds me that some clubs don’t interview the players they pick up either as to not give away their interest to other clubs with picks just prior. You need to know if they are the sort person to stand in the corner and feel like they don’t belong or if they are going to get to work from day one.
I stumbled upon this interview with Elijah. He speaks very well, very respectful, media trained, coachable, wants to learn and do the hard yards to get better. Everything I see of this kid screams pick me. Someone posted earlier that Essendon were showing a bit of interest at pick 5 so the Hewett train is starting to gather momentum and I’m all aboard.
Paddy MillsWHo is that?
We don't really need anything, it is about picking something that will actually get used. The expansion teams make this mistake all the time picking something they already have is spades and burning the value of their what they draft or what they end up throwing away what they had to accommodate the new player.
Given our recruitments starting mid age is a bit irrelevant, our transition plan is plain to see.
The MC backed in Kolodjashnij while he was suspect, now he is a premiership CHB, he turns 28 next year, he'll be there for the next 3+ years bearing injury. a big spend on a KPD would be a waste. I expect us to grab a pair of KPP with our later picks. Sav is a purely break in case of an emergency option.
We drafted four inside last year in the national draft (I see the bunch as probably all close to pure inside mids ), traded in two this year. Any pure inside mids we draft now is just being added to that huge pile, if you over target the area you just kneecap some investment without even giving it a chance. We just dumped Stephens cause we wouldn't be able to give him a chance to show what he could do, be silly to repeat it again.
You can always fit in a player with decent leg speed and a decent kick. We'd actual be able to see some use from in the in the next couple of years. A pick 8 isn't going to stay at the club after two years and near zero games at AFL level. That flanker isn't going to stay a flanker but at least has a chance to find their way into the 22 in the next two year.
What I saw of Caddy as a mid is what I wrote. Did never impress me. Stats alone do not do it for me- I saw what I saw, and he was poor under intense MF pressure. Sure, we had many better players than him, including Scott Selwood. But in the end, he was a HF.That is such a miss-statement of what Caddy was. Being forced out a pair of extremely dominant midfield groups doesn't make you poor.
2015 his last year as a full time mid averages 20 disposals a game, just under a goal a game, 5 clearances and 5.5 tackles in 72% gametime
Offseason we bring in Dangerfield, S.Selwood(who couldn't player anywhere away from the inside mid rotations), Menegola plays the last 6 games pushing Tim Kelly numbers. Starts playing as a high half forward in our sorry excuse of a Post Pods forward line, still averages 20 disposals and more than a goal a game, elite number by position.
We let him go as we're over invested in our midfield group, Menegola in Caddy out was an immediate 2-300k p.a saving in the salary cap.
end of 2016 goes to Richmond, they bring in Prestia the same year, find himself out of the a strong inside midfield group ends up playing as an undersized CHF in a premiership year. Makes the All Australian squad the next year as a medium forward once freed up from a structural role he was two-three inches too short for.
Spent the 2nd half of his career out of his preferred position for the better of his team. Had enough good attributes to make it work.
A fit Simpson is an asset we already have and know about.Surprised we didn’t ask Simpson to go to the rookie list to give us more flexibility on draft night.
You are his girlfriend or boyfriend or brother or sister, all you do is talk about Phillipou, lol
And if he's gone before our pick, just as certain we get him 2 years later anyway.
It's actually Phillipou's burner account. Clearly desperate to join the Cats.
Be handy.Paddy Mills
