So time for some ACTUAL news!

The same Irish paper that followed Mullin last year and forecast him coming and then backing out, has now released that his current club Mayo, and the manager of the club, are preparing for next season without him and he'll take up an offer with us in 2023.

Welcome to the GFC Oisin!

"For McStay, if trying to fill the gap left by Keegan next to near impossible, news has amerged that Oisin Mullin is expected to try his luck in Australia by signing for AFL’s Geelong Cats.

Mullin was on the verge of signing for Geelong for the 2022 season, but in January decided to throw his lot in with Mayo and stay put.

...

But now it seems 22-year-old Mullin is ready to play professional football in Australia in the 2023 season.

He will be a massive loss to Mayo, having already played in two All-Ireland senior finals, having an All-Star award to his name and two young footballer of the year awards."

What compensation do they receive ..or we just looked upon as Locusts over there..?

I wouldn't usually discount taking players from interstate because of the potential go home factor but I think it would be mental to take Allan. His Dad was captain and a board member at Freo. Add the tyranny of distance into the mix with WA and he has a stronger case to go home than Ollie Henry did.

Fair point. I think we must be very careful of all the inter's now...especially after us bringing in Bruhn and Henry.

I don't see why we can't fit into two of that type. Imagine if Blicavs had a twin, Scott would find a way.

If they both make it as inside mids we'd have a huge size advantage in the middle. If not one could be a wingman or a third tall etc.

Possibly but I’m struggling to see that it would work.

Exciting news that Mullin might come this year. I really think that this makes a difference in the strategy for the main draft. Mulin is another sub 183 (6 ft) who will probably end up as a running half back. Given we have a few sub 183 players already and we are stacked with mids, I'm thinking there is even more reason to go with a key position type or maybe a taller mid. (Allen, Phillipou). On what we have seen so far WellMac are more aggressive traders than Wells alone so we might be prepared to trade down if we think our target might get through to a later pick.

Pick someone like Clark and we just become too crowded with that type so we have to accept we will loose one in the next year or 2 if Clark comes to us. So WellMac have to be convinced he is worth it. This would be just like Coop who went for more opportunity after he saw the trade results.

To be fair, it's the same sort of way our local Basketball (NBL) suffers because of the NBA. Anyone who is good enough for the NBA, will not stay in the NBL. It's amateur versus professional. Same rings true when it comes to Gaelic football versus AFL. It's a shame for them, but it also is just the way the sporting world works unfortunately. Soccer is no different either.

Can see your reasoning and it could be on the money.
The other side of the coin is we are assembling a new look midfield and will need to have a large squad as not all will make it.
Seems like there will be a quality mid at our pick so maybe we will go best available and let the squad fight it out as to who gets on the ground.

Ah, I remember when many on here potted Blicavs at every opportunity. Even when he won the Carji, he got no respect. How the worm turns.
If blitz gets Captain… a certain account will explode lol

Go Catters

Agreed. I wouldnt be taking him.

It depends. It doesn't have to be. Id rather try to find a way to compensate them some how.Not sure what it is by the way. What do Melb Victory get if a kid goes from them to Leeds or whatever? Every compa and situation is different and them be am. I think it has a taste of us being the marauder.

Reckon we would only take Busslinger if we were to trade down to pick up a FF. Can’t see us using pick 7 (8) on him.

Challenging one..buss could go top 10 like gibcus or he could get to 15 (wont get much further than that) depends which club feels they need that type. I doubt wce take him so theroetically if we traded back to 11/13/14/15 you might still get him there but we would need a bit to go right.

If it's true Mullin is coming the challenge we'll have managing expectations ( of getting a game in the Firsts) has just become more difficult. You have to at least consider whether we'd be better off swapping our pick 7/8 for something decent in next year's draft, said to be a good one.

GAA make an ideological decision not to pay their players, though. Hard to complain that they then jump ship.

I get what you're saying... but I'm not sure we should be messing around with the best pick we have had in a long long time for a guy from Ireland that has never played the game before and is potentially flaky.

Every year we hear the following year is better lol

Scoops is "reporting" the Crows are looking to swap their F1 for an early pick this year to get Phillipou.

If it does happen... Hopefully, it's to Hawthorn... Assuming Phillipou isn't our desired target.

Bring the draft on already!!!

P.S - I'll be pumped to get Mullin... He is a big talent and a free swing for us.

Not sure how reliable that mail is. And in any case you’d want more than just their FF to be interested in a trade of a top 10 pick in this years draft.

Just rewatched the Vic Country V Metro game.

My opinion on Clark is that he is a solid player... a real goer who cracks in and tackles hard... but yeah honestly I much prefer a more dynamic bigger mid with a high ceiling like Humprey and then it's a piff at the stumps between Ed Allan, Ginbey & Phillipou (really warming to Allan).

I want to love Clark because I actually think he is a high chance to land at us... But the excitement factor, flexibility, size, speed & power just isn't there for me and with Bruhn/Willis/Parfitt & Atkins being similar to Clark in terms of size and positions they play I gotta say that I just don't want Clark over the guys mentioned above.

I could be proven completely wrong in time and all that matters is whoever we get ends up a very decent player (no matter who they are).

I'd almost bet my house on Oliver Hollands being a very solid outside AFL player (Duncan style) but top 10 is a stretch for him.

The talls look average & Ashcroft isn't even an option for anyone but the Lions.

It's definitely not a strong draft... that doesn't mean some teams won't do very well out of it and let's hope we are on the positive side of it.

I'd actually select the 17-year-old Harley Reid as the first live pick after Ashcroft if he was eligible this year.

I can understand Tsatas sliding (if he does)... hurt factor/efficiency could be low with him, although he obviously has no issue getting his hands on the pill.

Bring on the draft already.

What's the % likelihood these picks could be offered for Pick 7:

My guess in bold.

GWS 15 + 18 (40%)
WCE 12 + 20 (30%)
Swans 14 + 17 (20%)
Dogs 11 + 21 (15%)

If we trade our pick for anything like that I’ll be pissed.
Trading our pick is absolutely mental talk

By the sounds coming from Sydney's recruiting manager... Ima guess those 14 + 17 picks have 100% been thrown up as a possible trade for a top 10 pick (assuming a certain player Sydney wants, who is probably Humprey is still available on draft night at a certain pick) and it has been denied by all clubs offered them.

I want Humprey all for us if he is still available when our turn comes around.
