If we trade our pick for anything like that I’ll be pissed.
Trading our pick is absolutely mental talk
It really depends if we like a slider, or we rate someone just outside top 10.
I mean getting Hewett or Ginbey as well ain't that bad, they seem to have the tools to make it.
Then getting another crack just outside top 15, for next best.
But agree, would rather get someone like Humphrey, Phillipou, Clark.

Allan will go back home like his old man did.... I think we need another Max

I wouldn't usually discount taking players from interstate because of the potential go home factor but I think it would be mental to take Allan. His Dad was captain and a board member at Freo. Add the tyranny of distance into the mix with WA and he has a stronger case to go home than Ollie Henry did.

Sean Darcy in a year or 2 minimum..

Scoops is "reporting" the Crows are looking to swap their F1 for an early pick this year to get Phillipou.

If it does happen... Hopefully, it's to Hawthorn... Assuming Phillipou isn't our desired target.

Bring the draft on already!!!

P.S - I'll be pumped to get Mullin... He is a big talent and a free swing for us.

The Crows pick would be handy by they basically have nothing this year now. To trad our R1 P8 ( a known.) for a gamble of only their Fr1 that could be anything....id want something else this year . I think they had a pick in the 20's but they trade it out.

I'm not saying we should trade with them... I'm saying if they do trade for Phillipou, hopefully, it's a pick that is ahead of us.
Because If we don't want Phillipou, it would be one selection less that could take our preferred player/s.
Like if the Hawks were going to take Clark or Humprey and we wanted one of them... But now the crows take that pick and select Phillipou thus leaving us the player/s we might want.

If we do not want Phillipou it's definitely a good thing if he is selected before our pick... I'm just hoping it could happen that way to advantage us.

Just rewatched the Vic Country V Metro game.

My opinion on Clark is that he is a solid player... a real goer who cracks in and tackles hard... but yeah honestly I much prefer a more dynamic bigger mid with a high ceiling like Humprey and then it's a piff at the stumps between Ed Allan, Ginbey & Phillipou (really warming to Allan).

I want to love Clark because I actually think he is a high chance to land at us... But the excitement factor, flexibility, size, speed & power just isn't there for me and with Bruhn/Willis/Parfitt & Atkins being similar to Clark in terms of size and positions they play I gotta say that I just don't want Clark over the guys mentioned above.

I could be proven completely wrong in time and all that matters is whoever we get ends up a very decent player (no matter who they are).

I'd almost bet my house on Oliver Hollands being a very solid outside AFL player (Duncan style) but top 10 is a stretch for him.

The talls look average & Ashcroft isn't even an option for anyone but the Lions.

It's definitely not a strong draft... that doesn't mean some teams won't do very well out of it and let's hope we are on the positive side of it.

I'd actually select the 17-year-old Harley Reid as the first live pick after Ashcroft if he was eligible this year.

I can understand Tsatas sliding (if he does)... hurt factor/efficiency could be low with him, although he obviously has no issue getting his hands on the pill.

Bring on the draft already.

Id agree with all that..its just I think part of Clark is not on the ground. They see him as a reliable week in week out type with leadership .. a guy who will do the right thing at the right time etc etc.. but as you say..could be completely wrong

I suspect its more likely to kick in after our pick if Phil slips thru ...but maybe they will get a feel for who is interested. If Ess are they are wasting their time.

I think Clark will have a decent AFL career. I just look at the mix and size coming through in our midfield and think a bigger more flexible/power type would be a better "on ground" fit.

Maybe Clark turns into such a good leader behind closed doors that it just makes him a great pick.

That kinda stuff is something I can only speculate about as only the clubs talking to him truly know that.

Same thing with go-home factor... I like Allan, but if Wells said "hey, with all my experience this person shows signs that he might not be the best person to choose from interstate, let's give him a pass" I'd understand... But I have zero knowledge and am just judging guys on what I see on the ground + combine type numbers/stats.

I'll honestly say that if Clark was a WA kid and say that Ginbey/Allan were Falcons that I wouldn't be keen on Clark at all.

As it stands I'm cool with him if they get him and think he is the correct call, no worries... But from a playing mix only and potentially upside, I like the look of Humprey/Allan/Ginbey/Phillipou as bigger more flexible mids.

P.S my opinion means zero.

Hypothetical situation: we’re up.. it’s our pick 8 (assuming Ashcroft already bid on of course) and both Clark and Phillipou are both on the board. We get a call from the Crows “Your pick 8 for our future 1st next year?” Would you do it? I would in a heartbeat

What else are they including?

Nope.
Pick 7 this year for Pick 7 next year?
That’s it? Yeah nah. Nothing in it for us TBH.

Depends on who is still available.

Taking Clark every day of the week.

Crows can't trade a future first as they don't have one this year. They would need AFL permission and that isn't happening in live trading. If possible I would take it in a heart beat. Next year is going to be the best draft since 2018 at least. Imagine if Harley Reid got injured next year and crows finished bottom 4.

..they have no issue with the 2 in 4 rule... it only the future picks that could cause an issue and they have trade some out and some in. R3, R4 OUT ... and a R2, R3 in ..

Its just too risky .. can you imagine the reaction if the Crows did well and finished top 6. P7 for P7 is not even equitable because of the risk.

There is something rally wiffy about this draft...to many ealy picks getting traded ...

AFL Draft news: Essendon open to live trade to shuffle down order

Essendon will secure three junior Indigenous stars on draft night, and could land a much bigger bounty if it plays its cards right. Here’s the inside word.

Its more because essendon want to move ahead of a davey bid. If they could trade say 4 down a little and move 22 up i think they do it. That said i reckon davey might get to 22 anyway.

No dice. As discussed way to much risk on multiple fronts. May as well take the kid ourself as we’d get more in a trade down the track. The Crows would have to throw in one of their Future 2nds. Then you look seriously at it. You could prob live trade back into one of GWS’s late Rd picks this year given how covereted next year picks are.

As mentioned a heap we have an enormous list issue with next years draft and our potential list departures. We either have to address it now or get very very creative next year.

They can because they have taken mcasey thilthorpe and rachele as r1s within the last 4 years. So long as they trade in a future 4th (which wouldnt be hard to do) they can.

I agree on the last sentence. I think you will see us get creative next year (ie trade our r1down into multiple picks) or we will be trading players out for picks (which might happen anyway if non best 22 players ask for trades). Either that or we will be hitting the FA market very hard next year to replace retirements.

And even that isn’t simple as if you have 1 or two free agents lined up the very last thing you want is multiple round 1 picks.

The two free agents that stand out are locals Parish and Doedee. You could see both those clubs threatening to match and demanding multiple first rounders if we had them.

There's a few red flags. Not quite the USSR in October but a few 🚩
