Bowes would be crazy to nominate us IMO. Much better chance of establishing himself in the best 22 at one of those other clubs that are mentioned as being interested (Hawks, Bombers etc).

I can't see him wanting to come here when it's safer for his career to go elsewhere.
Bowes has spent his career at a non finals club. Why would he prefer Hawks, Bombers or North who are years away from success (and have issues), when he could join the premiers who have a good immediate future but with an older list that will present opportunities for a 24 year old mid/defender?

Is there anything you can share on his form in the VFL? I always thought Esava looked like he had some tools for his size so if he was even remotely competent in defending he'd get a game for us next near year. Our backup KPD options this year were pretty horrid and the good young kid did an ACL so he is mid season next year at best.

Has a lot of postitive attributes , good size, good leap and loves a pack mark so his athleticism isn’t in questions …for whatever reason he hasn’t really got the nous as a forward and as a result there’s been a lot of talk about trialing him down back to see if we could develop him into a KPD..he is under contract but I doubt the club will play hardball over him if he wants to move to another club

Game time. If he can't get a game at GC I can't see him getting a regular game here.

We already have several young promosing players he'd be competing with for a spot and we are about to bring in more in this trade period.

Maybe he backs himself in here, but it's a gamble and risk for where he's at in his career IMO.

Why is tanner bruhn rated within the club? In his last nine games he didnt get over 12 posessions once.
Natural mid shoehorned into a forward pocket due to the strength of the Giants midfield.

Let's see how he goes played in his natural position where his strengths are maximised.

Bugger all sadly. Played the year in the VFL. Pick 50?
I don’t disagree that he won’t get much but he does have a contract and I think the coach and club are pretty keen for him to stay. So I don’t think it’ll be a token pick. Also Bowes and Henry spent most of the season in the vfl.

Have obviously seen him play for Geelong so alot of that was on display and I had a similar view of 'why isn't that guy good?' with the attributes he has. Can only assume his form down back has been reasonable if we are looking at him. If he had any defensive match sense, you'd think he would be handy and it wouldn't matter what he did in the VFL, he wasn't getting a game in front of De Konig, Stewart, Blicavs, etc.

Danger rates him as a player so I will go with his judgment. Obviously, this season, GC wanted him out.

Nah, Henry played 15 games.

It’s also the fact that we tend to let players go, even contracted ones, if they want to.

We have zero back up key defenders, unless Esava helps us get a key target, it's a no deal for me.

Esava is not a bankable kpd though.
So im ok with giving him up if it helps get bruhn henry and bowes in (and the more currency we can generate it helps those deals) so while i think we can do those deals without him thats a reason to (for eg if he wants gws and they want him and it helps get bruhn done).
We can always take a mature kpd as a dfa or in the rookie draft to give us cover.

I expect if he wants to stay we will let him but if he wants to go we wont force him to stay. If he is in fact touring other clubs it sounds like he might want to go.

Focusing on Bowes role at the Suns, and lack of recent senior footy is a lazy discussion.

Top 10 pick coming off a major surgery and minimal pre season I was told. Geelong have a very specific role for him in mind and reckon he has significant upside with better players (and coaches) around him.

Bit like Connor McKenna - ok player at Essendon - get him to Geelong and the bloke could be a jet.

Sounds familiar doesn’t it? T Stengle type of familiar.

Absolutely agree-zac guthrie has shown that if you are good enough you can force your way into the 23. He should back himself to do it.

Pick 37 and fr1 to Collingwood
Henry and fr2 to Geelong

Pick 18 for Bruhn

Bowes and Pick 7 to Geelong
fr2 (pies) to Suns

Could work. Might need to trade a r2 and a r3 to appease the suns but could use one of our current 3rds or a future 3rd.

He has, he can spit the dummy quite easily and is prone to horrible mistakes. Also has patches where he can look like a superstar... nothing really in the middle.

I actually agree but i think his upside is huge and we will be backing our coaches in with him.

I think that remains to be seen. I don’t think they are in salary cap “trouble” so to speak. They want to create space because they’re no good now but have players who will need a pay day in future.

Bingo.

salary cap is a fixed resource. Any gap you have now can be used to front load contracts giving you extra space in the future.
Yes but by 2025 we will have acres of space and you have to pay the cap minimum 95 % (ie you cant bank lots of cap beyond 5%) so taking on bowes salary wont stop us doing what we need to do.
