Ordinarily I wouldn't care if a player snorted more white powder in a weekend than I use on laundry in a month but the lack of fight from Melbourne on this has me a little uneasy.Such a Basketball style trade.
F it, if we did it I'd be a believer in us for next year. The Bowes trade created enough room to put caution to the wind.
Our First, future first, future 2nd come back, we take the full contract.
Watch closely, don't just look at the names. I know a lot of Dogs supporters, and the midfield is nowhere near as good as advertised.Sorry no way the Dogs will move to get Oliver. They have a glut of Mids already, mids are not their problem, they need defenders and another year or two on JUH and Naughton.
If they can afford to send Macrae to the forwardline for most of the year then they dont need to add another player who is almost the exact same type.

Like. Is this a trap?

Did Cal say we were or that he thought we should be?
He said we're in the mix/looking at it with some other clubs.
It would definitely be going all in on next year, but I know one thing for certain, Chris Scott is telling Wells & Mack to make it happen. He said we're in the mix/looking at it with some other clubs.
I feel dees want alot more what we can give .
Not a bad deal for the crows, not sure I take it if I'm Melbourne.Dees would want a forward we don't have spear forwards .
Crows have rumour to offer first this year, first next year..and McAdam ..
It's a tough one for them, because it's going to involve future picks in some way regardless of who deals. Not a bad deal for the crows, not sure I take it if I'm Melbourne.
I can't believe this is a conversation. All things being equal he'd be close the most expensive players out there. Just trying to work out how Melbourne would use the free cap space to rebalance. Next player into their midfield would be Brayshaw, ignoring his concussion history. To my knowledge there isn't any KPF on the market that would require the money. They already have a strong draft hand. They could be gearing up for a mini rebuild to prolong their run over the next few years.
Lots of clubs will be interested...
Crows mids bat deeper than alot of other clubs .
They seem box seat this early on.

Talent-wise Oliver would be an amazing pick up. As others have said, exactly what we need.
However...
If he's gonna cost MORE than 2 first round picks...
And we have to pay him 7 figures a year...
And his behaviour and professionalism is such that the Dees can't stomach him any longer...
That's massive cost AND massive risk. I don't like it. I'd be worried about the effect on the culture, our ability to bring in other players we need and our ability to pay our other players what they're worth.
18 clubs would be interested and making that call, yup I'm including the yet to be established Tassie team in that.
Melb being full Ken Bruce
what about his footy skills and impact for us?Beast. I saw him in Geelong last Christmas period
I think they stuffed up getting both May and Lever ..(thought why both at the time).
They clearly needed a forward ...unsure who was available at the time .
Then they got Grundy .
Now Oliver ...
WTF going on..
Kickup the arse ...
Our R1(p7) , our Fr1 ... and Fr2 coming back? I think they would want us to add to the the 2 R1's.Such a Basketball style trade.

He's going to Adelaide or the Dogs. Nothing surer.
You're right, either go get Smith, or just prioritise picks and young talent like a Lord/Duursma.
Our under 25s have the potential to be really special, it's the best group we've had coming through since the dynasty years...but we need a couple more.
That's our next premiership side for mine, but the club will go for one last shot next year, hence the Oliver talk.
Smith makes more sense though, and suits what we should be doing IMO.
I don't think that was a mistake, we paid full price for Cameron, Brisbane got Daniher for free they got Brown for cheap given that North wrote him off. Brown was enough for them to win the next premiership. Its not for a lack of investment, Weiderman didn't work out, Schache attack didn't fire a shot. McDonald came from nowhere to be a solid KPF and then did his knee. Problem is that three of them are contracted and still on their list and not firing a shot. Grundy was a mistake. They had the best ruckman in the league. In the end they got what they could not what they needed.
They're got Petracca, Oliver, Viney and Brayshaw on full price. Viney almost took free agency, but their decision to retain them all lead to a premiership. Now they that they find that their unbalanced team is causing them trouble they want a partial reset.
To me this year showed that in the right year an unbalanced team can win it with a bit of luck. Had Melbourne knocked off Collingwood in the first week of finals the whole narrative around them would have shifted
Oliver's contract is too high, he is signed until he is 33.

It's Bont, Libba, and not much else. MacRae is shot, that's why he's playing forward. West hasn't come on as they'd hoped. Treloar is hit and miss.
I reckon Oliver ends up at the Crows, but I mentioned the Dogs as well because they have the capital, need to get out from under the Croft bid, and it would hopefully allow them to trade Smith to us.
It is a worry. He only just signed? Buyers regret?
