Port wouldnt have traded for 22 without an agreement that we will take it. There will be some minor pick shuffles late on but we will take it.
This is what I don't get with Port. I thought they were going to play hardball over their future 1st like we did with Henry last year. But they did a shitty deal with Freo for their future 1st seemingly without guaranteeing they get their deals done.

If Geelong were happy with 22 for Sav surely it would just be done and there wouldn't be stories about Geelong demanding more.

Esava Ratugolea wouldn't even be a Top 20 player in this draft. That's madness to suggest he'd be Top 5.

Reid
Walters
Curtin
Z. Duursma
McKercher
Watson
Sanders

Tell me with a straight face he'll be better than any of those players.

You are looking at those players long term, no doubt they will be better. Port is looking at Esava and the immediate improvement he provides them as a top 4 side next year.

Seems the Dons likely giving an ok draft pick for Dursuma(?) will make it work. We should be definitely looking for better than P22 if Mac has any negotiation skills (and he does).

Not having Esava signed to his free agent qualifying year was a fair f….up.

How are the ridiculous picks being handed out for those guys. He probably would have got pick 8.

Pick 23 is about right for Esava. It hurts because it will end up being a lot worse than that on draft night and with the ludicrous free agent picks to come but port can only do so much.

I dunno, when we traded all those picks for #25 last year it seemed certain that we’d on trade it for O Henry but Collingwood said no and we had to scramble around to get it done.

In the end if Hawthorn didn’t let Mitchell go for a packet of chips the Ollie deal probably would have fallen over.
We were trying to do anything to not give up our future first. So scraping together junk picks made sense.

Port Adelaide went and traded their future first in a shitty deal as the first action of trade week. Utterly bizarre when they could've got Esava (and probably our future 2nd) if they'd traded their future 1st.

He is a 25 year old, athletic, 195cm key position defender coming into his prime going to a team that desperately needs what he has to offer to be a chance for a flag. If they do not cough up I would send him to the draft. He will not make it through to Port. They trade appropriately or miss out. I would take my chance on us having to take another late pick.

I think Pick 23 + an upgrade on our Pick 85 is definitely doable, but they will probably only offer pick 75 additional. Might improve that last pick by about 2 or 3 spots though on the night...

I wonder what Wilson's 20m sprint was? He looks pacey too, maybe not the fastest, but definitely not slow.

Is O'Driscoll an over-ager? Decent combine data for a 177cm outside mid. Footy stats are just okay I suppose.

ZZ has speed, agility and leap... I wonder what his endurance is like. Maybe he's more like a Paddy Ryder than a Blizcavs...

Will that be much different. There is another wave of compromise picks next year and Port look likely to finish top 4 with their unbelievable midfield. Just delaying the pain as their FF1 would be 18-20 next year and we would have lost a good 2nd.

My thoughts too. Very much one of those 'Future 3rd for Future 4th', late pick shuffle, sorta deals.

Should be done by the end of this week, but will be a few days of back and forth (might already be done and holding off to create drama too - but hopefully not).

if they traded their future first to us for esava and our future second, it's basically the same for them as what they did (assuming we get 22 for esava now).

it just means they have freos F2 instead of ours. And we'd be shorter price to make the 8 next year than them, so they're probably better off.

On Hawkins. Very interesting. The club and he could be a looonnng way apart. He’s paid for peanuts and sees what others are getting. He might be saying you guys pay or I go elsewhere on a two year deal. Imagine what he’d get. Fair enough too. I wouldn’t begrudge him. I’d be shattered but I’d understand.

It won’t happen.
But if it did that would be utterly disgusting.
He’s an all time great of the club. Pay him what he deserves and stop ****ing around.

Yes but that assumes we accept 22 for Esava. And that looks to be a sticking point.

At the moment it just looks like they've locked in a crap trade for their future 1st and made it harder to get the deals done for the players they want.

He's not going anywhere. It's a classic case of brinkmanship on Hawkins part.

Discussions between player and club stall - he fires off a little warning shot via an ex team mate in the media - cue the outrage from supporters - a couple of clubs call his manager and "make inquiries" - club calls a meeting with the player and his manager and put pen to paper.

Yawn
It shouldn’t even get to this point.
Especially with a player like Hawk.

Can't see it happening, but stranger things have happened. We'd need to not want who is available at our pick, and be confident that who we did want would be there at Pick 13.

Pick 9 the only one I'd be really interested in, as Wilson instead of Caddy/O'Sullivan (if that was who was left), would be just as good. We miss out on all of them if we drop to 13.
Really not welded onto anyone other than the first 3 players the rest are much of a muchness for me. Plenty of really good players to choose from after that up until pick 25. Tholstrup Leake & ZZ Top are quality youngsters that would be available in the late teen’s early twenties.
