Can honestly say that if Hawkins was to leave then they can kiss any culture thats been built goodbye, he's heart and soul Geelong who has played for peanuts compared to what he could have gotten, im sure he will be letting the club know that too, will be some very upset people.

Nope.

Tell Johnson, Chappy and Kelly that, some of our all time greatest champions who all went on to play multiple years elsewhere after being shafted by GFC.

And they all should have retired because they were all physically finished when they played elsewhere

My thoughts too. Very much one of those 'Future 3rd for Future 4th', late pick shuffle, sorta deals.

Should be done by the end of this week, but will be a few days of back and forth (might already be done and holding off to create drama too - but hopefully not).

Yeah pretty much that like how we traded clark for 22 and an fr3 and we sent an fr4 back..the haggle will be over the late pick swaps either way but it will get done.

100 % and those were all the right calls for the reasons you stated.
For the same reason while id love hawkins to stay i wont pot the club if he doesnt.
Ultimately i think he will stay i doubt he goes to another club and we have the cap room to keep them.

I'm wondering if the chat today is really about money, or more so Hawkins after more info about what his role will look like going forward - maybe some assurance that they don't see his role or games as capped, and that his season will be judged on its merit as the season goes, not some pre-planned thoughts

The way the Swans are going at it... post Biddy and watching what he did to them... Id have thought Harley and Gardner would have found a chunk to offer him something we could not get near.

Imagine Collingwood coming with a good offer.

I think Geelong know he is sort of pretty settled... have they abused this a bit ? Probably worth 500 at least on the open market for a side in contention
They set his life up beautifully.

He won't win another flag at Geelong in all likelihood, but def could at Demonland.
Is that THE motivating factor?
If it's for a 2 year deal, whereas he only gets 1 year at Geelong, that would be "thanks for everything, Tommy, good luck" from my pov.

As did Hodgey, Mitchell and Lewis, and Gunston more recently.

What t

Whar the heck??? Where on earth did this come from??

Still hasn’t signed, Jenkins said on Trade Radio today that the two parties are a way apart on a deal. He also said that ‘I’m sure he’ll be playing footy for the Cats next year,’ so let’s just focus on that part…

That future first was overkill

If they had to hand that over then you’d at least want a F2 back the other way. I know they now get Croft plus the boy at pick 4 but they’ve traded out of the top end of next year. You just wonder whether they assume Smith will go to get back into next years first round?

Legitimately said a few weeks ago that this would be likely similar to the Jordan Clark trade...didn't realise it'd be this similar, haha

Frustrating watching other clubs such as Collingwood improve their list while we do nothing
Let's be real, if we had added some of the names available the narrative would switch to 'They won't help us win a premiership' over 'Why aren't we doing anything?'.

They can't win. We tried for Oliver, the door is closed there. We tried for Smith, they said come back in 2024.

It's not like we're not trying, there's just nobody available who's worth the hassle over playing a kid instead.

And FWIW, it's day 1. Keep your powder dry.

There has not been one player up for trade that excites me this year. Bunch of deckchairs. More than happy to invest in the draft this year and have a crack at Smith and/or Cadman next year.

Agreed, would much rather just take our picks to the draft and play some kids next year.

Some folks are getting pedantic over adding names because the likes of Frampton & Markov are now premiership players. It doesn't mean anything.

They're interchangeable pieces who don't influence the result. It doesn't make them genius acquisitions, they were just as ordinary at Collingwood as they were before.

For instance, if we were to win another premiership next year, I don't think players of that ilk are going to be the difference between that occuring or not.

Those were my thoughts too. I reckon the club wants to get games into Clark, Neale, Conway, Knevitt, Dempsey etc., so I reckon guys like Hawk, Dunc, Rohan, Tuohy, Stanley etc., all would have been told they're playing max 15 games next year.

Not sure Hawk is someone that would accept that so easily like the other guys.

Pies were kissed on their dicks by a bunch of fairies this year. Good team that were well coached but I reckon the least talented flag side in living memory. They won’t go B2B.

100% true.
Every point.

Mostly agree, although I have some interest in Duursma > Billings.
Excitement, no; interest, at the right price, yes.
