Hawkins told Jenkins to say it in the media so it is not that simple. On the Hawkins 'story': What an absolute nothing burger. It's a great example of the bullshit that gets reported this time of year. Even in the article revealing this completely un-newsworthy news, Jenkins' says Hawkins and the Cats are: "just a little ways apart from him signing on for next year". Ok, so, a player and a club are discussing his contract and working out the finer details. Wow. Big deal. Definitely worth any of us spending a moment of consideration on.
100%. You go down this list ... and there are more questionable trades than Gold plated wins like the two Premiership successes.Agreed, would much rather just take our picks to the draft and play some kids next year.
Some folks are getting pedantic over adding names because the likes of Frampton & Markov are now premiership players. It doesn't mean anything.
They're interchangeable pieces who don't influence the result. It doesn't make them genius acquisitions, they were just as ordinary at Collingwood as they were before.
For instance, if we were to win another premiership next year, I don't think players of that ilk are going to be the difference between that occuring or not.
If I was Melbourne I'd be throwing everything at Hawk, 2 years + better pay + some future coaching roll + a decent pick to Geelong to help ease the transition . He might need to think about it. He could be the difference at Melbourne. You desperately need a key forward and we have one of the best and I'm sure we'd entertain the idea.
How does bulldogs getting pick 4 impact us??? Are they after sanders by any chance??

Whats their situation with aligned players next year? Darcy junior or an academy player? Maybe the R1 is less valuable to them...like GC and P7.
It does seem a lot ... and its indicative ..that if 4 is worth that then 7 should be worth a good chunk too.
Now we see what the deals are for 10.
Not aware of any highly rated FS or academy picks for them next year which makes the trade even more difficult to justify.
We are going to get a pick this year for Sav that is very similar to an end of first round pick. The difference is negligible.Literally this. If Esava waited 1 more year, he'd leave as a FA and we'd get an end of 1st in return.
System is so broken.
It will be a stealth kid that has slipped under the guard like Kane McAuliffe or some sanfl player they like the look of like Kobe Ryan. Early days ..there is usually a hint closer to draft.

Hawkins would want two years at this stage????He's achieved what the station wanted - say something you could have said in ten words across three minutes and get a headline. Mission accomplished. JJ is trying the KC storyline to get himself a cushy radio job.
Ten words: He wants two years, Geelong have offered one. Will sign.
In all honestly... Probably not.Geelong offer Hawkins 1 year 300-400k and Melbourne go to him and say we will give you 700k for the year and a real shot at another flag. Is he tempted?
In all honestly... Probably not.
It can be used as a negotiating tactic but I don't see him uprooting his family, leaving his farm and moving out of his home (to a place where most country Geelong folk hate) for a few extra $$$ after tax. He wouldn't be hard up and hanging for it.
Sure he could not do all the above and drive in every day... but that just makes it even more less likely/desirable.
Deep down I just don't think it is ever happening in his mind... but yeah It can be used to get a bit of a better deal if he feels disrespected and I don't begrudge him doing so if that is the case.
I'm actually a little disappointed/embarrassed for him that it has even gotten to this stage (but I really don't know the ins and outs of it).
I see it as almost zero % chance that Hawkins changes clubs though.

Nek minnit we accept Freo's F2 for him with an F4 going back.To be fair, I did post this before Port made that trade to get the Pick 23 - so I wasn't to know this.

Jokes by the way peeps... That didn't happen...yet.
Kobe Ryan Screams Wells Pick missed getting Draft last Year but was highly rated by some
Trade news for another team - but can anyone explain this one?
So Port want to continue developing Duursma as a wing, but sounds like he wants more midfield time, mentioned in the article is to play "on ball" more which Port said is unlikely to happen with their current midfield setup. He was told he's welcome to explore his options and he lands on Essendon - how exactly he is going to get more midfield/on ball time at Essendon, and especially with others they're looking at bringing in?

He'll play midfield ...I was in a bit of disbelief reading that too.

He'd get a few midfield rotations, but not much more than that. Very poor choice by him.

In the VFL.
Or Hawkins was happy for him to run with this story knowing good and well its more about timing. It's no stress to Hawk or the club to have headlines- and JJ is a few months into a media gig so it's a win for him.Hawkins told Jenkins to say it in the media so it is not that simple.
