almost every year diamonds are found in the latter rounds
Chad warner (39)
Dylan Moore ( 67)
sam Taylor (28)
Keidean Coleman (37)
Mitcheto Owens (33)

Just have to find them or just get lucky

Tom Atkins (Rookie Pick 11)
Gryan Miers (Pick 57)
Tom Stewart (Pick 40)
Brad Close (Rookie Pick 14)
Jack Henry (Rookie Pick 16)
Zach Guthrie (Rookie Pick 33)
Mark Blicavs (Cat B Rookie)

And so on

For Esava, does anybody know if we offered Esava, 2024r2 for Ports 2024r1?
Or did they reject it, or did we only offer
Esava, 2024r3 for Port 2024r1.
That would be better than where we are now.
I think we should accept 24, maybe try to add a future 3rd.
That would make it roughly a 10-12 spot difference.
Our 2024 2nd round pick would be around a 27-29 pick for a 17-18 pick.
Points wise is about 350 (Pick 45)
I rather of just had their 2024 1st rounder which was most likely asked for.
FWIW a future 3rd will be like pick mid 50's + which is a nothing pick when u consider comp, academy and FS are added will be a pick in the 60's.
For Me. That Freo 2024 2nd round pick is what i'd add as sugar on top the pick 24 on offer.

This is my prediction too. If Dogs get Watson - who they traded up for - then we're much more likely to get Sanders.

Good to see articles confirming that's who we want yesterday, as some of us have been saying it for quite a while now.

I think majority of us want Sanders, i'd be happy with O'Sullivan as a long term KPD next to SDK. But yeah after that i'd be looking to move into 2024 Draft. If we can have 2 First Round Picks in a stacked draft i'd be stoked.

Reckon when push comes to shove that the Kangas will relent and trade for pick 1, giving up 2 and 3. They need a generational talent.

A scenario such as this might play out -

1. North - Reid
2. GC - Walter (bid)
3. WC - Curtin
4. WC - McKercher
5. Hawks - Duursma
6. Dogs - Watson
7. Melb - Caddy
8. GWS - O'Sullivan
9. Geel - Sanders

Get the feeling if Caddy or O'Sullivan are available at our pick we'd take them ahead of Sanders. Purely because KPFs and KPDs are a lot harder to find than MIDs. Especially MIDs like Sanders who accumulate but don't have much of a hurt factor.

In fact, if Caddy and O'Sullivan are gone at our pick, I can see us splitting it into two later first rounds to take a MID like Darcy Wilson/Charlie Edwards/George Stevens and a more speculative tall like Ollie Murphy/Archer Reid.

We won't get a choice, we will be left with whatever one from the elite eight is still on the board and I think that will be Caddy.

Is caddy in the same category as the others? I know nothing about the prospects, but it seems like he's rated lower than the others.

This may impact our desire to take him/trade back. But it may also impact the desire of other clubs to trade up to get him, and therefore what kind of pick(s) we could expect in return for 8

I wouldn’t be trading back. People in this board, and the media, are indicating there is a clear top 8, excluding GC academy players. So let’s take whoever is available out of Caddy, Sanders, Watson or O’Sullivan rather than some late teens picks. Our history over the last 15 years is not great in that range. We have SDK vs Stephens, Clarke, Thurlow, Lang, Smedts, Brown as a guide.

I’d love to trade our pick for the 3 first rounders north have but would they do that trade in draft? It’d be a big change of plans for their list to trade out 3 picks for 1 in the same draft. They may not want to do the trade at all, they will want to make sure they move on the picks they’ve been given for next year and I believe they still hold 1 so that could help.
There looks to be some good players available in what will end up the second round. We could look to add some players across a couple of positions if we ended up with multiple picks there.

I can see the logic. It could also depend on we're targeting next year.

I imagine we'll go after an A grader through either trade or FA next year. If we are confident of getting in Smith, or someone else of that calibre, it might impact our choice.

Word this morning on the Hawks board is that Bailey Smith wants out and talks are escalating between the two clubs to get a deal done.

Not in terms of trades, dodo still gets it done but possibly from a list management point of view. Geelong get the likes of Dangerfield and Cameron without paying top dollar, I know they both wanted to move back to Geelong but frustrated player managers can drive things harder, if you make their life easier they can look after you to a degree.

Look at the fella in WA that seems to hate Freo, I know his players have a say too but he certainly isn't helping.
Great point. The overall feeling of the club is very different to other clubs. The way we have traded in the past is that we are after the person, not the talent. Whereas others look at players as just a body to put on the field. Good insight.

I also think - triggered by Daz's comment about us being considered pricks if we do well in a trade - Wells etc have probably been nicer in the past because weve been so successful and everyone is looking to cut us down the second we start being demanding. I know opposition and even the AFL get riled up when CS says a single thing about finals at home, or his comments about North's unfair equalisation advantages.

Mackie will do things his way and may learn some. I definitely get your point about it being counter to our usual style. I hope it is effective, but moreso, i hope he doesnt undo that easy-going feeling our club has.

I actually like the fact we are somewhat open. Refreshing. I never really liked the 'Wells picks a random smokey with our first pick, just to be Steven Wells' narrative. When it comes to first round draft picks... In Wells, I don't Trust...

I actually hope he goes to the Hawks. I just want to see us draft a kid, put in the development work with him, do our time in the middle of the ladder, build a nice squad that's grown together and then unleash in a couple of years.

I missed those articles, I've just seen them now. Per the Geelong Addy for those interested:

Geelong is interested in bolstering its young midfield stocks, with sources confirming the club’s interest in young star Ryley Sanders, who is expected to be a top 10 selection.

However, if the Tasmanian prospect is off the board by the time Geelong is set to make its selection, the Cats are reportedly open to trading the pick on draft night.

Giving up Pick 4 will be a bargain for Hawks as they get a top player at the club from round 1 IMO.
On the other hand The Dogs can reload with Picks 4 & 5 along with Croft.

Could be even cheaper than that from reports on the Hawks board. They're saying Dogs are all in for Watson (no surprises there), and Hawks are offering 4 and F1 for Smith and 5 - so basically guaranteed to get Watson and an F1.

I believe them, as we've heard nothing on here and there's a lot of their guys who are confirming it. They also have something the Dogs want and collateral, so I daresay Smith becomes a Hawk before trade period ends, IMO.

They may be too busy dealing with this instead

Surely we aren't that dumb. Conway missed most of the season injured. Stanley missed a lot of the season injured. Blicavs missed a lot of the season injured. Cegler has retired and Esava is out the door.

So if Stanley and Conway get injured, we have Blicavs and SDK but having them ruck weakens the midfield and defense significantly.

I can't see us not getting a ruck.

I think it's a big risk as well, but that's why there's not rucks linked to us. We aren't trading one in.

It'll probably be a wait till mid season draft and see if we need one or not.
