As we are now getting into the season and we are starting to get a bit more serious with discussion, seems a suitable time to post the following as it's repeatedly shown itself to be a value reference tool in trade & draft discussion

And as per normal, thanks to Lore for putting this together - always a fantastic reference tool

And yes this post is now stickied - makes it easy to keep track of (can easily reverse this though if needed)

OK it was just a thought - certainly others have overtaken him at the Swans.

Himmelberg? - too expensive I would think but a very good player.

Yep, plenty of players have made it to that 34-35 year old age playing good footy this century. Who knows, a couple of the old boys may even surprise us and go around again in 2025.
Yes but I think it's becoming more prevalent now.

Scott Pendlebury will be 36 by the time 2024 rolls around.

Cal Twomey says blues should be asking for cats players in trade for Dekoning, suggested they start with Max Holmes. Tom can stay at Carlton if that’s who they want.

Lol cal is delusional. Parfitt more likely holmes is going nowhere.

Dane Rampe 33 and just signed a two year extension.

It looks like players are playing well into their 30's these days.

Our premiership last year seems to have changed the thought process of clubs.

Some of that is salary cap management though.

Pretty sure Whit has 3 years to go and Haynes 2... most likely on BIG dollars.

Haynes only has 1 yr left though its very backended.

Whitfield has 4 years to 2027 left but they wont be salary dumping him imo.

I think it also depends the role they play and how deep the team goes into finals

Selwood was a tough, in & under player where he was smashed in contests most weeks and then add in that he played 40 finals across his career - only once missing finals meant that he rarely got that extra time off after the season before getting back into the swing of things with pre-season training

Collingwood has had their success, but also been a bit more up & down which has given a guy like Pendle's extra time between seasons during his career. Then add in the style of player he is and he doesn't seem to get banged around as much, at least not in the latter part of his career as others have come into their midfield - one of those players though that you'd absolutely love in your team

Why wouldn't we ask the question in Jordan Sweet from Western Bulldogs? 25 years, 206cm , 106kg... can't get a game as his behind English whilst understanding.. is out of contract and would cost peanuts 🥜 maybe a 4th round pick ( which could be next year ) I think we're mad if we don't...
Thoughts?

Another case of grass is greener.

If he was at the Cats the pitchforks would be out and we'd be calling him a bust...if only we afforded the time we do to opposition players to our own.

Tbh knowing how bevo doesnt rate rucks he might be a delisted FA. For that or a very late pick he would be decent backup to replace ceglar but i would like it if we traded in a better ruck.

I think Conway can be that better ruck... besides Melbourne are the only team has 2 genuine star ruckman. I think Sweet would be a far better backup than Ceglar...
For a peanuts pick, got nothing to loose

Conway, Holmes, Bruhn, Clark and Knevitt with Bruce, Bowes and Clohesy still huge chances to be apart of things as well. It's genuinely almost set.

Still reckon we need one more first round midfielder, possibly two depending on the latter's development...but the fact that we've been able to build that on the run is incredible and a testament to the club.

I think we still need a truly elite mid even if Holmes and Clark go as expected.

I'm beginning to think parish might be ideal

The concept of buying a pick is either to trade a player out or trade in salary cap....

I don't see any player on our list that would get us anything decent that we'd willingly part with.

So that leaves trading in cap. So, who at an oppo club is over paid enough to come with a selection?

Have to think it sound like a West Coast type deal. Id be surprised that we get anything like the Bowes deal again..but maybe we get an upgraded pick from taking a player. Fr3 for a R2 this year type deal... would we take a Gaff etc for something like that?

CATS VETERAN CLOSES ON NEW DEAL

GEELONG forward Gary Rohan is close to winning a fresh contract extension with the Cats.

Speaking on AFL.com.au's trade and draft show gettable Rohan's agent Nick Gieschen from Connors Sports Management said he'd had discussions with Geelong list boss Andrew Mackie and revealed that an extension was close.

"I'm really hoping we can get something done soon," Gieschen told Gettable.

At his age, just turned 32 ..he is look as healthy and pacy as ever... he is more rounded and mature. If the club decided to spread his wage by offering two rather than 1 ..id not dispute their wisdom. Worst case is he finishing Year two much like Dalhouse last year... but so what . Flag player for geelong now ...very handy ... what was it P50 something

One year at a time with Chucky please...

Very handy and needed.... but 1 year at a time please.

GO Catters

If giving an extra year means we can spread the money offer less in the Sal cap for 2024, creating the ability to get in other upgrades.... then Im fine with risking that extra year. He looks like he is enjoying footy more than he ever has. Cold awful night ... that was a night for Rohan to turn the toes up... but rather he was a match winner.

Dylan Stephens at the Swans might be gettable. He failed in the GF versus us but he has ability and we need mids.

I miss read your post at the start ... The Dylan at Port came to mind...is a Free agent .. and starting to look handy.

Id think the history of the swans and the Crows... thats were I see Stephens landing.

Wouldn’t mind the Cats having a look at an unsigned Dylan Stephens.
Unlikely, but adding a 22yo midfielder to an aging list wouldn’t be the worst idea.
Like the cats though, the Swans don’t lose many that want to keep.

Im not sure he is the player id pick but id dont mind the bold. I feel Hockings arrival switched us from being strong mature only to having a more rounded view... as we did last year. The disadvantage is the cost of trades... where as Issac Smith has been a great no cost trade in... perfect example of Free agency.

He is below average in just about every stat imaginable.

He'd only be gettable because he isn't good enough IMO.
Disagree. Unlikely to find a player with his talents late in the draft. The issue is that his is an outside winger that everyone mistakes for a midfielder. I think there is something there.

The one from the swans I like is Oliver Florent. I reckon he is a classy midfielder who has been stuck in the backline at Sydney

Logic says Parish would be a very good add. Right age and consistency of performance. Just on "elite". Just how elite is he? He made the AA bench in 21...but Im wondering how good he is in a winning side. ... could he go to another level for us. Interesting trying to project the side. My only doubt is .. would we have too many smallish mids with Parish, Bruhn and Clark?

Question for the club I guess ..as if Parish wants in I doubt we say no.

It's a fact that he is below ave on all main stats (being sub/subbed may have impacted though... not sure).

He 100% is a winger though and still young... and yeah I'd take him every day of the week for a late pick.

But I'm assuming he would not come cheap as he was a #5 draft pick and is still young/developing.

Late pick... sure, a late first-rounder... probably not that keen.

If the Swans loved the way he was tracking I just don't think they'd let him go though.
