As we are now getting into the season and we are starting to get a bit more serious with discussion, seems a suitable time to post the following as it's repeatedly shown itself to be a value reference tool in trade & draft discussion

And as per normal, thanks to Lore for putting this together - always a fantastic reference tool

And yes this post is now stickied - makes it easy to keep track of (can easily reverse this though if needed)

Between Oct-Mar it really is hard to give a * what the club does.

And the SDK draft shows how easily the masses on here can get it wrong with just some highlights packages to go off.
Ultimately though who cares what Vinum is moaning about this time ;)

Hard for many here to contribute with any insight into draft prospects when they don't have the means or time to gain any knowledge at all about them.

Completely reasonable take :)

Trust me though, you'll be pulling your hair out if we did land Tsatas and we didn't iron out his defensive deficiencies or getting his kicking sorted...as it's a tough watch in some of his games, haha
Tsatas worries me. Kick is a worry, has evasive skills but something says to me it won't translate. I didn't think Holmes would be as good as he is though and I had similar thought on him.

3:57 mark on this Tsatas clip... grabs the ball mid-air from the center tap and handballs, immediately turns on the jets and explodes forward out of the stoppage.

Just looks like a fantastic inside/outside modern game running player to me. Must work his ass off to average 34 touches a game.

Anyway, bring on the draft... Geelong B2B in 2023.

Remember when every wisened poster on here lost their collective minds when we passed on Dev Robertson to select SDK?
Everyone saying how we regret the decision, Wells had lost the plot etc.

All this talk about how the club should be taking this player or that, biased by personal preferences based on a few highlight packages should be well served to remember drafts past

We really are in the sweet spot. There are some ordinary prospects selected between our pick and the end of the 1st round
I think the top 12-14 is pretty set and you know what players are going to be taken

Just not sure how many players teams with say pick 12 have in mind, at our pick there’s a certain 4 that keep being mentioned and I wouldn’t be unhappy with any of them

Personally, I think if Clark is gone, Ed Allan will be our man. He has Wells written all over him.

I would probably prefer a VIC to eliminate the go home factor risk, but this hasn't put us off over the years. If Wells and Mackie see him as being best available at the time, they'll have no hesitation calling his name.

I must admit he's an exciting prospect.

We have more than a few mid prospects already and brought in two ready to play mids in the draft. Where we are lacking is down back, with only SDK as a KPD, hence the need to hang onto Sav. I wouldn't be surprised if we traded back a little, got a pick for next year and took Busslinger.

Shadow is right, this place is toxic.

First post I've made in a while. Just one post and people have to tear you down for an an opinion.

Make incorrect assumptions and make people for like crap for having an opinion.

Yeah. I'm out. It's just the last thing I need

Using the 'ignore' function to avoid the fringe element here will make your experience here much better. Thoroughly recommended.

Your call of course, but it'd be disappointing to see you leave. You'll no doubt get some commentary about opinions being fair game on a forum, which is true to a degree, but judicious use of the ignore function can weed out the disrespectful and antagonistic posters you encounter.

Which player in the top dozen has the most Billie Smedts about them..?

You're definitely right, and everyone should remember what they've said in the past and own up to mistakes so we can have quality debate......but we're here to provide opinions on things. If I get it wrong I'll say but it's fun to have an opinion on our options.

My thoughts seem to follow the same raised by others:

Jhye Clark - safest bet, kid tries his guts out, wish he was bigger but he does have neat skills. Mightn't have the ceiling of others but won't be disappointed to take him.

Humphrey - seems a great kid, he's attitude has swung me a bit (positively) very worried about his kick. Danger can't kick either and whilst a star it has held him back at times - I don't think Humphrey is as powerful as danger. Think too early pick is a risk.

Phillipou - Agree with lots of thoughts, floating kick action but he does still kick em 60m. Kids bottom age. Most exciting prospect for mine, maybe arrogant but he is competitive! Similar to the Bonts, fyfes etc - isn't rated the highest but seems to be the bloke everyone will look back on and say "why wasn't he no.1 etc"

Tsatas - kick is a worry but I do like that he tries with both feet. My concern is the lack of power, reminds me of Holmes and Smith with his run but they are both quite powerful kicks.

McKenzie I haven't seen enough of.

All irrelevant though, as I believe we will take Clark if he is there. Unless Wellsy has something against the family, you'd think this kid is everything we like. He's courage, tough and most importantly a top 10 Falcon. If we don't take him then Mackie has more say on our draft now than Wells.

Tried messaging you mate, but I can see you've deactivated your account right now - so I'm just going to put this out in the open so everyone can see it - you are a valued poster, your insights are valued and people really need to realize the amount of crap people are going through at any given moment...so choose their words more carefully.

I really hope you return and I'll send you a PM if you do. There are many good people on here, which I got to see when sh*t truly went south last time. It's hard, but I think it's a combination of ignoring those who upset you/not taking to heart some people's opinions - as some can be ignorant to the sensibilities of others/the consideration of others.

With this said, I did also want to offer up that Drunkcat has consistently said for a while that no-one knows what's going through Wells' head...so I'm not sure it was specifically directed at you but more a commentary on all of us being so sure on who he may pick...and then maybe not accepting converse opinion as readily. For mine, (and I reckon they'd back me up on this) Drunkcat usually takes the piss a lot (no pun intended) - so there's not much malice intended with their words.

Again, with all this said, targeted behaviour really does hurt people, and some comments are just unnecessary, IMO. We have no idea what people are going through, and we need to balance the weight of our opinion with the weight that opinion has on someone else's psyche. I myself have had to improve on this and know when to say 'enough is enough'...as sometimes we get so committed to a train of thought or state of mind, that we can't see the proverbial forest for the trees.

Hopefully when the dust settles you return mate, as you're a great poster and you will be missed.

Take care and hopefully you're back soon :)

Cheers,

Nick

To all the posters out there hang on we do not want anybody to leave. We all do not want to loose valued posters. This affects everyone's experience including the person leaving.

Sure some people may be vindictive but I think by far negative things may be said in jest. That is not to say it is OK. Understandably everyone interprets these things differently.

Let's all learn and be more sensitive and call out something if it is not appropriate to stop any negative behaviour. I am now a little saddened by some of my posts especially the ones directed towards the coaches.

Go Cats!

I dont understand why people feel the need to argue with each other and drag things on for pages and pages, if you dont like what someone posts block them and get on with your life its not that hard the feature is there for a reason.
