As we are now getting into the season and we are starting to get a bit more serious with discussion, seems a suitable time to post the following as it's repeatedly shown itself to be a value reference tool in trade & draft discussion

And as per normal, thanks to Lore for putting this together - always a fantastic reference tool

And yes this post is now stickied - makes it easy to keep track of (can easily reverse this though if needed)

More than just you do it

Getting a bit sick of this mate. You come in here and consistently either target posters or laugh at their posts deliberately just to get a reaction....you're lucky that most in here have far more maturity than yourself and they choose not to respond.

For the benefit of everyone in here, be better. We're trying to set a new precedent for the standards around here and almost everyone is doing great. Don't be the outlier.

What’s the knock on him?? You look at his output and it’s up there with ashcroft
No defensive side to his game and can't hit the side of a barn door. Very much a downhill skier from all reports.

Has a lot of good traits too like burst speed, inside and outside balance and a good size...but really needs to work on those aforementioned traits if he's going to become a consistently good player at the highest level

Your not a Mod
I don't think someone needs to be a mod to say that something is getting out of hand and that people need to take a step back. As was pointed out by a poster recently, the most consistent posters are never mods. We all govern the culture here, and we all decide whether it's good or bad. People are pissed and this has escalated quickly, because we've possibly lost another poster due to the interpretation of being attacked.

We don't need to be told to do better as a collective, we just need to be better and learn when to walk away/ignore/report when shit goes south.

You saw I defended your point of view because I know your posting style...but you do need to accept that you've likely upset someone with that commentary and maybe try and be more constructive in future. Not many of us are mods, but I don't think that's a difficult thing for any of us to do when we reach an impasse - myself included.

I think in Wells and Mackie's mind they'd be big into a Cam Mckenzie type. Shifter Sheehan compared him to Mitch Duncan. Seems a really safe bet.

Hasn't Bowes already been compared to Duncan as well? I mean, 3 Duncans are better than 1... but I'd be thinking they might want more variety in the midfield mix.

Again shut your mouth you don't run this forum again

You're right, we don't run this forum nor are we mods.

However, that doesn't change that through some great initiative shown by posters in recent times (Particularly Shadow) that changes need to be made around here. We've lost good posters in recent times and over the years because we have a tendency to eat our own in here, when in reality we should be backing each other up, or at the very least engaging in polite debate.

I can't speak for anyone else on this board nor will I name anyone, but I know for a fact that there are good posters here who aren't currently in the best state of mind. They come here to get away from those struggles and just talk footy and have a bit of fun. That's what this place is all about, a large community of people with one common passion: The Geelong Footy Club.

How about we embrace that aspect of the place rather than baiting posters, hey? You never know what's going on behind closed doors and yet you're continuing to do it even after recent events have transpired.

The majority in here are magnificent people, don't be the odd one out.

Well if I could build our 22 with some cloning

Most posters have no idea and simply regurgitate what they read.

This includes me.

A 2-minute video of highlights does not tell you much.

I want the best player available. I believe we are exposed in the KDP but this has to be balanced with other options if there is something that stands out.

It is called silly season for many reasons

I would honestly back us in and take him. If his kicking is a bit off and the only other knock is he lacks defensive skills as an 18 yo, you can absolutely teach that in the system.

Surprised he hasn't got more chat on here. The only fully game I watched him in was a Metro vs Country trial match that was not of particularly high standard, but he really stood out not just as a great player but as someone with the kind of traits (composure, strength overhead) that I'd associate with Geelong picks.

He does strike as that Duncan type. As a very early draft pick I imagine he would put a few off as he lacks a real standout trait compared to some of the others. More your mr reliable 7/10 for in and out balance. Lacks that real standout edge of explosion or inside bull quality some of the others do or a strong forward craft to his game. He is more that Duncan mr reliable type

So we have some spots available in our football department to fill. With Harry, Eddie and Simon moving on it will be interesting to see if we try and bring in more former players to fill those spots. With Matty Egan likely to replace Lloyd the head of development and medical are key roles for going forward

Personally, I think if Clark is gone, Ed Allan will be our man. He has Wells written all over him.

I would probably prefer a VIC to eliminate the go home factor risk, but this hasn't put us off over the years. If Wells and Mackie see him as being best available at the time, they'll have no hesitation calling his name.

I must admit he's an exciting prospect.

I hope we actually take Allan ahead of Clark (Tsatas/Humprey also if avail).

People can go as hard as they want at me for saying so... I can take it.

I am.....resorting to outright abuse won't be tolerated.

I suggest you settle...and if you have "history" with a fellow poster on this Board then press the "ignore button".

Move on from this now...

Clean up done, and it's not even 10 days since this was posted - just because we've rolled over into a new thread, doesn't mean this creases to apply

The 2022 season may have ended, but that doesn't mean the rules cease to apply - when signing up to Big Footy you've all agreed to the Terms & Conditions, while here on the Geelong board we've clearly laid out the expectations when posting in these threads in the "Setting The Tone" thread

All too often during this time of year we lose good folks who get sick of the bullshit and decide their only option is too walk away - as a group we should be embarrassed that we have regular posters, those who are up for a chat, offer good insight and banter during the season who feel that's their only option

SO THE CRAP STOPS NOW, AND A WARNING TO ALL - ZERO TOLERANCE FOR GOING OFF TOPIC & PLAYING THE MAN

Future posts where there only intent is to go the man will see time on the sidelines - we want all folks knowing this is a safe place to chat and share their opinions. Debate the topic to your hearts content, just keep in mind where the line is that we're asking you to not cross

And for those who've forgotten what it says in the "Setting The Tone" thread, then I strongly recommend having a new read through it:

BE BETTER, & BACK ON TOPIC - who are we taking at pick 7 or will we trade it on the night...

I'm cloning de Koning and playing him forward; replaces Tuohy on the bench.

Just had a few minutes browsing on the Eagles draft thread while the good mod work was being done here. Some of what is being said impacts on us, both our picks, and the pros and cons of who would be available if a pick around the level of ours were split:
# a few Ginbey sceptics, certainly as regards his ability to play midfield; some qualified interest in him at 8 but generally, eastern states players preferred; overall, it's surprising how lukewarm they are for him.
# incredulity about the way Allan is being talked about - almost no-one wanting him @ 8 or 12; that said, one poster claiming very good source says he is a very level headed and committed player who will do well at senior level; their view doesn't gel really with the idea he might be a Wells special at #7
# lot of love for Humphrey, but assumption is he will be gone
# still feeling the pain of the Kelly draft miss; discussion about that in relation to taking Hewett at 12, or 20
# no sense they are expecting to get Busslinger, or even much interest: their need is mids over talls, and the assumption is he will be gone by 12.
All this with a grain of salt as I only read about 20 pages.

People get too caught up in what a guy does or doesnt do in their draft year, some of the best players in the comp looked a mile off the level when they were drafted, its about identifying and developing talent as much as anything else.
You're right but this is the first time we've had a relatively high pick in a while. Late first round to second, you wouldn't hesitate taking any of these guys - they have talent. With an earlier pick though, you've got to try and work out which one is the most likely to succeed and find reasons why.

Tsatas worries me. Kick is a worry, has evasive skills but something says to me it won't translate. I didn't think Holmes would be as good as he is though and I had similar thought on him.
I can see what you mean, but gee, those highlights show someone with a real sense of where the ball-in-motion is going - some really terrific loose ball gets. Untrainable ... and the kicking might have weaknesses but that goal from 50 was impressive. it's the first highlights package I've seen that shows class ... more speculative, more reward ... like Hewett (who 7/8 is probably a fraction too high for).

But as you say, it's so hard to know at this age ... I remember thinking that (class, or at least some dash) about Taylor Hunt ... and that turned out to be not quite right.

I like reading that team!

Yep for sure, shows good anticipation. Attacks where he thinks it will be hard and often gets it right.
