On players salary

Eg TDK.. if let's say Saints are offering him $1.7 million and Geelong are offering $1.3 million.. if your a person who is on over 1 million, how much money do you really need and want rather then play for success?
Its far better on then 99% of us here on our wage 🤷 and buy most things then we can get
Not a chance the cats offer that sort of money he would be on more than Danger and smith

Unlikely Dangerfield would be part of the highest paid players at the club at this stage of his career

This is a really good point. Salary is not everything when you're in that sort of bracket. Most important things are work conditions, colleagues and opportunity to develop in your field (including team success).

The issue is that the difference will be more than that. It'll be somewhat more like $1.3m from StKilda over a very long time, vs, say, $800k from Geelong over four years.

When you consider that a footballer's career can be short, it's a huge sum to give up. It's the difference between being able to set yourself up, and never having to actually worry about money in whatever reasonable choice you make.

As usual you’re just trying to stir people up.

As if you have a clue about who I speak to. Get back in your hole until you’ve got something productive to add to the discussion.

Pretty sad post really (and horribly misguided)

The club had its reasons but the result is that like last season, we will probably continue to get beaten in the midfield and that makes winning a flag difficult. It would have been worse if it wasn’t for the surprising early form of Stanley, as we are also weak in the ruck. As a result we have got an excellent Bailey Smith, but Danger won’t be playing much in the midfield, and Clark and Knevitt are not the answer yet, perhaps never. Thank goodness for Atkins, and Holmes. Mannagh is worth a try but he is small.
When Smith has played, our midfield has only been really belted once (against Carlton) this season. We were 4th in the comp for score from stoppage differential before that - Smith, Holmes, Atkins and Mannagh (who has been the extra at stoppages around the ground) have held up their end of the bargain. Fixing that last midfield rotation is key of course, as Clark/Knevitt etc are not doing enough. But there are some overreactions on exactly how awful our midfield has been this year. Holmes finding some consistency within games would be a big help, but he's young and it's a transitional period (moving from utility to full time midfielder).

Once Kolo and Henry are back in I feel that Stewart and Danger will be rotating in the middle

You are saying that someone in the club is actively telling people outside the club that a player is a failure mid season. Good leaders don't do that, and that makes me very, very sceptical of the claim to put it lightly.

Every single coach and administrator could believe him to be a failure and they would never say this until he gets delisted. You back them until you sack them.

Stewart being down on fitness/form (take your pick...but he's mostly looked proppy this year to me) has really hurt, as has the absence of those players you mentioned. I agree with you that otherwise he would've been that defensive sweeping midfielder at times and people forget how effective he was in that role last year. It just about rescued our season after our mid year rut.

Exactly, plus the higher the money you get, the more the tax man loves it as well

Id say he would get close to a million at Geelong, especially how much the salary cap..
Let's say 300 g difference, how much money does a person need to live on, especially the more tax you get taken

People doubting that the saints would offer tdk $1.7m should pause to reflect that the salary cap floor, which the saints struggle to hit, went from $15m to $16.8m from last season to this. An increase of $1.8m that the saints have to pay to players they don't currently have.

Is the cap expected to rise over the next five years?

In that case, people shouldn't evaluate contracts in dollar terms, but rather as a percentage of the salary cap.

800k today may be 1mill in 2028.

800k today was 660k in 2020 without the covid cut.
The industry as a whole probably needs to realise that.

Some of the numbers do look outlandish, but when you consider the increase, it's really not that bad.

Like mentioned above, 800k for TDK just won't cut it anymore.

Our 'come for less' approach would be in the 900k-1.1m range on today's equivalent figures for a player of his calibre.

Plus you can bank some salary from one season to the next. and they would have some in the bank for sure.

Im not sure how much you can bank though.
