Which of these midfielders with poise, skill and the ability to evade an opponent would you choose based on their first year in the game?
Both appear to be cut from the same cloth and have alot of time to dispose of the ball. So I'd be interested to hear honest and reasoned opinions as to who you would take if you had the choice.
Pendlebury's stats
Bryce Gibbs stats
Bryce would be a deserving winner of the rising star award since he has shown he can shut down opponents whilst setting up play from the back half. Gibbs' reading of the play is brilliant if you've seen him beaten for pace and concede front position to opponents. Yet Bryce has still ended up with the ball in his hands due to superior reading of the play and a great set of hands.
Bryce has a terrific defensive side to his game for one so skinny and has yet to be released from the shackles of defense to play an attacking game. Pendlebury is a very good player and has improved out of sight this year, but Bryce appears to be a more complete footballer at the same age and his 2008 will be something to see.
I can't recall Gibbs being caught out too many times in defence and rushed, but I have seen Pendlebury corralled and forced to handball to a teammate when he couldn't kick on his left foot.
Both players showed terrific leadership when they stood up to experienced opponents after a teammate had been downed in play.
