The technology was fine. The umpires just decided to back themselves in and make the call without review. The umpires should be celebrated for having the confidence to do so
The technology isn't fine, it also records the players hitting the posts, and you can't tell the difference from the ball or a player. They mentioned this after the match they need specialists to determine the difference. A simple solution would be to just put a chip in the football.

Not sure why people are saying why didn’t the goal umpire review it? It’s very obvious, he saw it as a point, he didn’t have any doubt hence he didn’t call a review. The call was wrong but he saw a point, and that’s what he called.

If only we had this attitude to free kicks in general.

Can we publish the total difference in winnings/losses from the major gambling sites?
How annoyed would you be if you had a few thousand on the Crows?

44 seconds from a centre bounce with the 6 6 6 rule is more than enough time for a team to score.

You can't reverse the result and punish us for a mistake that had nothing to do with us.

It's s**t but all that can happen is the AFL say it was the wrong call, should have been reviewed and that they will conduct a review of their process going forward.

Maybe a public flogging of the goal ump to appease the masses.
As mentioned many times, the same goal umpire had a previous goal go for review that clearly hit the post, even the kicker knows it hit the post, and had the ARC fail miserably.
Crows benefitted on that occasion, don’t recall them asking for the result to be changed back then.

it’s a sh*t call, a big mistake, but that’s what it is.

Maybe Gil can face some tough questions regarding the standard of umpiring. Throwing, holding the ball and dangerous tackles has never been umpired so poorly in my opinion.

Don't know about the WAFL but the VFL is even worse.

To confuse the umpire and render snicko useless because all clubs know the snicko technology is a false flag operation and is at the discretion of the AFL.
So you are saying Mills deliberately hit the post to trick the goal umpire, and the players practice that at training.

Remarkable.

This has to be cheating, no grey area.

What technology can distinguish between what a ball hit? What kind of chip? Salt and vinegar?

each team as a designated player who plays that roll on the goal line. Ours is froggy Lester. Dono whose Adelaide is

That it’d be those people’s faults for putting that much money on sport when luck is always a huge part of it.

The players and supporters of Adelaide and St Kilda (and perhaps the Bulldogs) do have a right to be angry though.

Yes it was a goal.

But in terms of costing Adelaide a shot at finals - how are easy misses from Rachele, Walker and Fogarty not as much to blame?

When will PLAYERS, the highest paid people on the field, be held to account instead of focusing on some goal umpire who made 1 error on the night - as opposed to 5 or 6 like players do each at a minimum.

Tex and Fogarty in particular cost Adelaide early in the 4th with missed shots. Blame them.

Everyone talking like it has cost Adelaide a spot in the finals (a win would have taken them to 44 points)

meanwhile Sydney are now on 50 instead of 46 while GWS & the Dogs (if they win today) will be on 48

that f$#& up by the goal umpire isn’t going to cost Adelaide a finals spot - it’s going to cost the Giants.

I've read that a few times, and even though it's largely an irrelevant and silly argument - I have to question whether the umpire could actually see it at all.

In all the shots, his view seems to be completed impeded by two Swans players.
In that case a goal review was the only solution. He should definitely never officiate another AFL game ever again.
He made 2 mistakes. The 1st one is forgivable if his vision was impaired.
The 2nd by not calling for a review is gross negligence.

100% can’t overturn the result. For 100 years teams were at the mercy of the umpires late in close games (and themselves mostly). Can’t start overturning results with a minute of “what ifs?” Late

Potentially the saints as well

I'm not really in the loop about what requirements a camera needs to have to be in the ARC system but surely you can do better, it's basically a security camera, you'd think with the millions of dollars the AFL has they'd get something with a higher frame rate or better yet quality

The issue is the field of view they need to cover is huge.

This isn’t like cricket or soccer where itm
This could very well cost St Kilda finals as well.

You'd think the Bulldogs beat West coast easily.

Next week the saints have Brisbane at the Gabba. Not too many teams win up there.
The dogs play Geelong who have nothing to play for. They win that and they boot at Kilda out.

That only happens if the Swans beat Melbourne

I see Crows supporters losing their minds over losing their supposed finals spot, but I highly doubt they could have made it anyway. I think The Bulldogs will probably finish eighth with 50 points, 2 points ahead of The Crows had they finished on 48 points.
