Ah, Good Friday, right up there with Boxing Day and Easter Monday as the most boring days of the year.

But wait, there's a solution, an open training session at Gosch's Paddock at 10.15am tomorrow morning.

At least it will pass a few hours, and hopefully a big crowd comes out to watch our boys the day before their round 2 match.:thumbsu:

Firstly boxing day surely is not boring, the cricket is on, there is leftover meat for awesome sandwiches, and hopefully theres a couple beers left in the refridgerator.

Secondly, easter monday is golden this year with a sweet game of footy, cats v hawks

haha take it you are not a cricket fan..

I am actually, I go to most Boxing Day matches, but you can't tell me that sitting there for 8 hours on Boxing day is fun, it bores me to tears most years, I end up playing little mathematical games with the cricket scoring just to entertain me.

Tomorrow is clearly the biggest waste of a day on the Calendar though.:thumbsd:

There's always the races at Caulfield on Boxing Day, they even have the good grace to put the cricket on the big screen! :thumbsu:

Boxing Day >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Good Friday.

Does that make 18th April 1930 officially the most boring day ever?

BBC News was as follows:

Good evening. Today is Good Friday. There is no news.

End of broadcast.

being an MCC member boxing day is up there with GF day & spring carnival, watch the first session then retreat to the frank grey smith bar for the rest of the day keeping 1 eye on the game and the other on the races............ pure bliss.

i didnt go because i have just woken up because i have had the worst month of my life and i finally had a chance to clear my mind and just sleep ... or it could of been i was just a zombie and everything finally shutdown

Went down to Gosch's Paddock this morning with my Dad, for the Good Friday training session (according to Premier Brumby we shouldn't be doing anything on Good Friday:thumbsd:).

All 25 players were there, 22 selected and Beams, MaCaffer and Dawes.

The session was fairly short, only about 35-40 minutes, but was very crisp, clean and fast paced at times.

Started off with just a few laps, then some kick to kick drills in lines.

Then all the players moved in close for handball and physical contact drills, which also seemed very clean, spirited and well executed.

The session then basically finished with a full ground practice, with all players in their "normal" positions, although Pendlebury seemed to be used more up forward. Harry looked real good during this session, as did Beams and Wellingham.

Things that stood out;

* Buckley working with Cloke until well after the group had finished, working on body positioning and approach to the ball in a contested situation. Cloke still had the big bandage on his leg, but looked to move freely.

* Jack Anthony was the last to leave (as always), having set shots at goal for a good 10 minutes, and he didn't miss to many.

* Ben Reid seemed to move very well, tore out of the backline once or twice, and it is worth going tomorrow just to see what he can do at senior level.

300-400 people there, lots of kids, was a good, quick, clean training session.

I'd guess no change, but you never know with MM.:D

Thanks for Report.

Glad I did not travel a hour up for 30 Minutes

Oh cmon Dave, Dawes was there, he was probably looking for you, his number 1 fan.:p:D

Thanks for the report, Matty S.

It'll be great to see Reid play again tomorrow, I hope he does well. It'll be hard for him to keep his spot in the team though, given that Presti is an automatic re-inclusion when better.

Great report matty.

Good to hear Jack and Cloke were doing extended work after the session. We need big seasons out of both of them.

Also, it will be a good experience for Reid.

Whilst he will make way for Presti next week, getting games at senior level for him, particularly in a year where it will be incredibly difficult for any player to break into our best 22, will do him the world of good. He will play games this year for certain.

Personally I think he would have definitely played against the Saints if Kosi was there and might still if Stanley is selected.

We need two genuine key defensive posts against Brisbane, St Kilda (fully fit) and the Hawks and as useful as Leroy can be as a utility, he isn't a key defender's arseh*le against genuinely top quality tall forwards.

If the Saints game was this week, Presti would have played IMO. They figured that whoever the Dees play at full forward will be make shift at best and to select Reid and Presti would mean that Reid doesn't have a genuine role again. Like usual he will lose confidence because he will be lost not knowing which position he is playing. This is an opportunity to give Reid a full game as a defender at AFL level (something he has never had) and also the opportunity to rest Presti against a team with no high quality key forwards so he can get over his niggle.

The only thing I'm a bit unsure of is who will come out for Presti next week because I'm pretty sure Reid will stay in. We have Hawthorn the week after (2 key backs required) and then Essendon in Round 5. I'm starting to think that this is the round where we first see Beams in the team. I don't really like that TBH; he is easily best 22 and from this report, clearly impressing at training.

Yeah, you're right, I forgot about the whole concept of teams having more than one tall forward...

It may depend on how well Reid goes, however. It's possible that they might prefer Maxwell/Harry/Leigh to try playing as a KPD against Hawthorn, etc., if Reid looks out of his depth tomorrow, especially given our back 6 from last week performed so well together. Unlikely though, I guess one of our small defenders will have to make way when Presti comes back.

At the moment I'd have Beams in ahead of Sidebottom.
I wouldn't. Beams lost his place by his own poor decision making and irresponsible behaviour. It's now up to him to earn a spot back in the 22 - not just be gifted it.

I'm glad the club has sent a strong mesage to all our players that it won't tolerate poor behaviour and breaking of club rules in a year when our premiership window is open. As Alan Jeans once famously stated - To win a premiership, players must "pay the price".

This.

From the way he trained, Sharrod is in for another HUGE game tommorow. He was involved in everything and his skills were faultless.

Overall, i was impressed with everyones skills today, the drills were really sharp and clean. Jolly and Toovs had the fumbles today, but besides that everything was perfect :)
