I was critical of some areas of his Captaincy earlier in the year, in hindsight, probably unfairly. He isn't the perfect Captain but his leadership of late has been fantastic.

That aside, Goody has been an absolute colossus for us this season. Would be vying with Douglas as our B&F so far, and should finish his career with yet another All-Australian inclusion.

He's just dominant this season... again.

Re: Goodwin

He was brilliant today, one of the best on ground. Full kudos to him.

I have been really impressed this year with how Goodwin has used his body to deliver some hard hits. I think he was missing that a bit last year but from the few times I have watched the Crows so far this year he has used his bulk to his advantage to be able to lay some awesome bumps/tackles on the opposition.

I had been critical as well, but I think that he's well and truly broken the shackles since his announcing his retirement. It helps that we've won more than we've lost since then, but I genuinely feel better about what he's doing out there.

Great season again. Started well, then struggled a few weeks which is when he was playing sore/injured i recall.. Been great since then.. Personally i think this guy is just awesome, will be missed so much

Going to win the B&F by a mile, easily All-Australian can we please try and talk him into playing next year. It's okay to keep one player over 30 and it would be much better to have Goody rather than Doughty running around next year.

Also Patty would be ready for the capt. in 2012 so Goody for Capt in 2011

What are the rules regarding retirement? Goodwin has announced he will retire at the end of the year, can he change his mind still? Would be a shame to see him leave when he is in such fine touch. Surely he doesnt need to sign anything until the season is over?

But then again, Edwards was brilliant last season and just slowed right down in 2010.

Providing Goodwin can change his mond, would it be worth offering Goodwin a 1 year contract based on form, and have Goodwin and Danger as Co-Captains? It would be a bit like a captaincy apprenticeship for Dangerfield... Because the things Danger did in close today just scream captain. As did his late goal last week, and his goal this week. His size says captain.

will he change his mind... hahaha.
I respect his dicision and if he wants to finish up at the end of the year well.... let it be.
Plus the way he is going, he will retire on some great form. I'm sure as a player going out the game you couldn't ask for much more! (apart from a flag haha)

When he retired he said he always wanted to go out playing good footy, its been a big thing of his.. The last thing he said he wanted was to start looking like he doesnt belong in an afl game of footy anymore..

Pretty hard to tell when you will run out of steam but as we all know it happens so quickly when it does.. He knows the end is near and obviously its time in his mind..

Shame if he could keep playing so well but we will never know if he could keep up the standard.. Then if he chanced it and went downhill fast, everyone would be talking about him like he's a waste of a spot in the side and this is exactly the risk he obviously didnt want to take

I never criticised him and always knew he would be fine!! :D:D

Brilliant today... a fine captains game...:thumbsu:

Seriously, I too would like to see him play one last season with the prime aim of captaincy/leadership skills transfer to a couple of captaincy possibilities...
Danger and Thompson to name two... yet I don't think they will be ready in 2012 - hence the year of transition required...

As good as he has been this year, I would hate for him to go around again last year and have gone on one year too long, like Edwards did.

Better for him to end on a high, and for us to remember him as the awesome player he is.

Was obviously playing "sore" earlier in the season as the penetration of his raking left foot is well and truly back....magnificent!!!! :thumbsu:

Thats what it was, a badly corked knee which he was carrying for weeks..

He was going to miss at least the following week but obviously played with it until it recovered..

Very tough to play with, as it recovered we've seen good ol' goody back..

I agree he has been in great form and will be a massive void when he goes. But the reality is that the Crows construct the game so that he almost never has an opponent. It is the perfect retirement position. The first opposition team to tag Goodwin from the backlines will do well to curb his influence. Hopefully however this will release Stiffy and he will nudge 30 touches.

I'll put my hand up as another critical of his leadership earlier in the season. His form was always solid though - and now he is in great form.

I agree with Elvis, thank you very much - his decision to retire has seemed to free him up a bit. As has the younger legs coming into the team. He obviously feels far more comfortable knowing the club is moving forward now and can focus on his footy and leading by example when he needs to rather than busting his ass due to carrying half the team.

No way he would go back on his decision. We all saw what happened earlier in the year when we rolled the dice with too many guys who had question marks on their ability to keep performing at the level. He will be super proud of his ability to lead the emerging youngsters through the rest of this year and go our probably with a golden jacket (not sure dougie is going to be doing enough rest of season to pinch it from him).

He has been a fantastic player and leader for us once again. Kudos to him:thumbsu:

He's a shoe-in to win the B&F IMO. The coaches love him he's known to poll very well in the count. Not sure about All-Australian but I'd imagine he'd come very close.

He said when he retired that he wanted to go out while still playing good footy so the chances of him changing his decision are pretty small.

He has been tagged several times this year. Stevo was loose man, Goodwin had an opponent he was just dominating.

If Goody maintains his current form he'd be a shoe-in for an AA position across HB.

Has there ever been an AFL player who made AA in the year of his retirement due to age rather than injury?

Macca my friend, I am finally able to say you are wrong.

Goody has been fantastic in the last 8 weeks and has added a hardness that was never there before.

But he is not All Austalian this year. Won't make the squad and rightly so.

He and Douglas would be close in our B and F but no dobut he will win it

A fine end to his career. The best of the second tier of Adelaide's finest.
