That's all kind of fair, but jSOS over Melican. Nope. Saad doesn't have to line up against Lloyd, but put him up against Roberts/Bice or Lloyd and it's a yes IMO although my heart doesn't like that!Play Walsh on a wing where he belongs, TDK as second ruck and third tall, Weitering yep, McKay maybe, Curnow you betcha, Cripps too but after that? No-one. Saad? Makes Lloyd look good. JSOS? I'll take Melican thanks. Our smalls run rings around theirs. Oh wait! They did.
A list like that is subjective and could lead to pages and pages of back and forth. Have a read of the Mongrel Punt for another opinion. Not one that flatters us but is pretty objective. That's all kind of fair, but jSOS over Melican. Nope. We sure had many people in here harping on wanting Hewett back so does anyone want him instead of Rowbottom? I wouldn't personally, but the way people gush over him you would have thought he was Cripps lite.
Below is the other night. We have many more out. They have some and overall we have better players if you sub 1 for 1, but I think they get the chocolates from the other night 1 on 1. This isn't a score from the night BTW.
Just doing a quick assesment.
McCartin < Weitering
Wicks = Ol. Hollands
Rampe = McGovern
Francis < Silvagni
Roberts < Saad
Blakey > Haynes
Bice > Young
Lloyd < El. Hollands
McInerney < Walsh
Warner < Cripps
Rowbottom > Hewett
Sheldrick < Binns
Grundy > Pittonet
Campbell < Cerra
Amartey < McKay
Hamling < Curnow
Heeney > Durdin
Hayward > Motlop
Jordon > Lord
Cleary > Carroll
Co. Warner = Evans
Ladhams > White
Blues and Swans both have some fantastic players and ultimately many of Carltons players would walk into many teams 22s just like we're seeing with Kennedy at the Dogs this year. Blues issue is our list is horrifically out of balance with all nearly all of our best players being contest beasts and nearly all of our 'outside run and class' being absolutely shite. Someone like Roberts may be a lesser player to Saad in some eyes but Roberts kicking would be far better for us as we desperately lack good kicks of the footy. Campbell another who would make a huge difference for us despite not necessarily being a key/starring player for the Swans. That's all kind of fair, but jSOS over Melican. Nope. And Sydney would have like 26 out of the top 40 players between the two clubsIts okay to say you prefer our list but a lot of Carlton players would walk into our best 22 every week (Walsh, Cripps,TDK,Weiter,McKay,Curnow,Williams,Jsos)
Lets not be ridiculous lol

You are a very naughty boy
i don't like oppo , but that's a very fair post , good luckBlues and Swans both have some fantastic players and ultimately many of Carltons players would walk into many teams 22s just like we're seeing with Kennedy at the Dogs this year. Swans are almost the reverse of that.
When both teams have a near full list available those holes aren't there as much or aren't as prominent but as soon as the depth starts getting tested our small forwards and outside run are exposed as absolute garbage and sometimes the Swans boys get exposed in the contest when some of their tougher in and under players are out or underdone.
Wouldn't really say either team is better or worse in that regard, but the Swans certainly have a younger core which means they should be able to build around theirs for longer.
Dreadful that that has become an identifiable thing, when so many supporters of other clubs dream of their club just making a granny. It reminded me of the GF ambushes we've faced where the game basically slips out of our grasp in the blink of an eye because of some sustained pressure on us.
Was McLean playing poorly? Yes
But he has moved well in plenty of games, and played some solid footy, if he kicked straighter his year looks better.
We know what he can do
He does sweet bugger all most weeks, great team bloke I’ll give him that but add him to the bunch of our useless tall forwards that have been gifted games for too long
+1, that was one of the more remarkable things I've seen attempted on the football field, a triumph of imagination over skill.Imo, the ladhams scissor kick was the highlight of the game for me. Hope he goes for it again.
I know three Carlton fans - unrelated to each other, and all three would kill to have the success we have had. While it may only be 9 games, it's the way those games have shaped seasons and our finals performances (bar grand finals) that really highlights the differences between the two teams. We won 9 more games than them in the last 3 and a bit years, not remarkably different.
.
I haven't gone through the data but we haven't quite pinned down the key forward roles have we
Perhaps they did not notice we most will likely have 2 players out suspended. If both these boys play odds are most likely pretty close. Not that I am a betting man but how are we starting favourites vs Melbourne next week?
Melbourne - $2.04
Sydney - $1.81

I have shown him the data that shows McLean isn't the problem for pressure forwards and in fact statistically provides more pressure than Ladhams. He just refuses to believe it and goes on about McLean being slow being the problem, when in fact its actually been the other small players not pressuring thats causing the lack of forward pressure (again can be proven statistically).

Leaving aside bare stats for a moment, which have their limits. I suspect because we target McLean more often than we would Ladhams, you might expect him to be in an easier position to get some pressure stats if the ball hits the ground or is a bit wayward. Ladhams might have to work a bit harder for his up forward, although he would get more in the middle of the ground.I have shown him the data that shows McLean isn't the problem for pressure forwards and in fact statistically provides more pressure than Ladhams. If we play Mills, which we shouldn't, then I'd stick him forward on Lever if he returns, or May. Do the Hamling role so Joel can go back. Good set shot too.
Cleary to stick with Bowey.
Yeah, but we might panic with the outs and if it backfires, the "we had to take the risk" excuse will be trotted out.Don't see why we wouldn't want to give Mills a full game in the VFL, it's like we haven't learnt anything from the last few times if he plays.
I would bring Adams in Gawn and Petracca in the middle for Melbourne are very important players for them.Don't see why we wouldn't want to give Mills a full game in the VFL, it's like we haven't learnt anything from the last few times if he plays.

Adams got through a whole game, he can play, Heeney can help out forward.
