dont know if any of you heard of this or should make anything out of this.

but i was lstening to sen this morning and some caller called up about trading for prismall and greg denham's response was something like "geelong's got more important signings to make like chappy and hes refusing to sign until end of year....and other clubs espically sydney are sniffing around"

anyone heard of anything?

well any club would be sniffing for paul chapman if he hasnt signed but he seemed real confident he was gunna sign so im confident. even if he did go we would get something very good for him

Yep. I heard the interview, just what you said.

Chappy won't go anywhere, especially Sydney

just that i dont know waht the salary cap situation is but if a team like sydney offers him double what we can, who are we to say he shouldnt take it, god knows if someone offer me that now i leave so fast i wouldn even finish this post....

the thing is syndey dont have anything we want except for their picks...

and that is what we would want. Very important to keep the list ticking over and injecting new faces.

Sydney seem fair to deal with.He will not be given away with the same degree of charity as King & Gardiner but their R1 pick plus Dan O'keefe (Ex Falcon) would be a reasonable outcome. DOK has been injury prone and has hardly got on the ground for them but was p15 in the Selwood draft and does have talent , and an extra early pick could give us one extra talented kid before GC17 restrictions.

Of course it doesn't replace Chappy but we have to be realistic. A Flag under his belt and he may feel his next contract has to be his foundation for life post footy. We may loose a valued player here or there but it also gives us the chance to keep our list refreshed and our cap under control. I would never force it but there would be advantages to him wanting it.

Chappy is most definitely worth a top 10 draft pick and young regular player, so they might wanna start tanking, or trading up.

chappy will stay
bit of a drama queen at contract time

could be the next captain, then passing it on to gazza / bartel to selwood

the guy has said he will stay

otherwise get a didak type

I can see it. Chappers walking down the street, he is kidnapped and driven up the highway to be routinely tortured by the Melbourne leadership group armed with suits, powerpoint presentations and excuses.

I think its pretty simple here.

Chappy wants to worry about his footy, thus has put off signing, no worries.

It would be neglegent of clubs, especially those who are a chance at a GF soon to have a shot at chappy. The bloke is a star.

As Cheif Wigam would say, Move along nothing to see here.

anyone else heard a rumour about a bit of wayne carey type behaviour involving Chappy? No I'm not talking about capsicum spray I'm thinking of something a few years back. Not trying to troll here - I heard the rumour from a cats fan in melbourne this morning.

Love Chappy and would hate to see him go - if it came to that. However players will leave and new kids will need to be injected into the team.

With any club it is a balancing act re: the old/new mix. At the moment the Cats are up and flying so of course no significant changes are made to the core playing group, and you have a number of younger players fighting for spots. If these younger players do not start to get significant time in the next few years they will depart, so you need to be carefull the list does not get too old (see Sydney).

If Chappy is here he will get a game any day of the week, if he leaves it will force them to look at other options, which is not a bad thing (eg. Harry Taylor).

Those sort of rumours have been around before at Geelong. A couple of years ago the same stuff was being said about Kent Kingsley and Mark Thompson. It's all crap.

If (I doubt it though) Chappy leaves, I think this is one of the few situations where a player is worth nothing less than a Round One pick (and not just a club asking too much). The guy is a gun and is still in his prime.

You forgot the one about King and Ottens as well...but these pathetic rumours happen everywhere, like with Buckley and Tarrant a few years ago.

I have an interesting take on this. It has been well documented that the senior group are willing to possibly take pay cuts. If this is true and it appears to be as Tom Harley has said he will sign last and take what's left(probably a bit exagerated but it gives you an idea of the mindset).
In Chappies case and because money is tight I think he may be waiting till the end of the year for a similar reason. Except possibly in his case he (and his manager) will be thinking a few players receiving OK money (Tenace, possibly Prismall) will not be at Geelong next year and this will release a little more money. New draftees will not receive the same as any mid range player so Chappy may get a little more of the pie.
just a thought but sa chappy may be getting less than his market value even a fe wextra dollars is better than nothing.
In any case I don't see a player like Chappy leaving.

I was at the lunch Billy spoke to yesterday.

Billy said he was at a lunch with Chappie last week and asked him about his contract. He asked him if he had signed yet, PC said he was waiting till the end of the season. BB asked him if he was going to be at Geelong next year and PC said he wasn't going anywhere and would be at the Cats.
