Groin surgery for Roger
Roger James has had surgery on his groin / adductor muscles which debilitated so much of his 2003 season. The skillful on-baller is in Sydney for the operation, which is likely to set his pre-season training back a few weeks but enable him to play unhindered in 2004.
James has been suffering with groin and adductor muscle problems since early in the 2003 season. With careful management he played on through much of the season but it became too much late in the year, forcing him to miss the club’s last five games, including the finals.
The off-season rest did not settle James’s groins and the decision was made that something further had to be done.
James underwent a surgical procedure, commonly known as an adductor release, on
Wednesday night and the club reported on Thursday that the operation had gone to plan.
“Roger had a chronic groin or adductor condition that just wouldn’t settle down even with rest,” Power footy manager Mick Moylan said on Thursday.
“We were advised by the surgeon today that the surgery went well and we’re hopeful that it will be the first step towards seeing a fit and firing Roger James on the field in 2004.”
James will not be able to run for three to four weeks but the club is hopeful he will be back running before Christmas and in good condition in the new year to enable him to play in Round 1.
James played 19 games in 2003 – often spending time on the bench – and finished just 17th in the best and fairest after a blistering 2002.
Strongly built with immaculate skills, James has played 118 games for the Power since joining the club for its inaugural AFL season in 1997.

Poor Rog, he just can't seem to get a break.
