I'm not saying that - your original point was that because Italy won it in 06, they have nothing to fear of Spain, which is absurd considering that core you mention (without Toni, Del Piero, Totti...) is now old, past it, or out of form.

No my point is that they will certainly take something out the last world cup. Not nothing like you said.

Just like you said that because Spain has a tradition of choking, they're expected to do it again. Nothing points in that direction.
My point here is Spain can't have the same confidence that they can do it again cos they have never done it. If you think that it doesn't matter then why does it seem the same sides win it every 4 years (basically Brazil, Italy, Germany & Argentina) with only France & England bucking the trend?

counting on them to choke only 2 years after an almost identical squad has won the euro (and has beaten most big countries in friendlies along the way) is a bit strange.
And my point here is the Euro Cup isn't the World Cup.

You're quoting me just telling you I didn't say that. Move on please. I'm sure there is a mental and inspirational advantage, but I think you're overestimating the importance of it.

So you think Spain went into the euro 2 years ago with the idea "hey guys, "we" did it in '64, so we can definitely do it again!"? There's absolutely no connection.

Those sides you name have just historically been amongst the stronger sides. Brazil's always there, but Germany has had lesser periods, while Argentina has not made it to a semi final in 20 years time - hardly big 4 material, hey?

Besides that France have been about Europe's best team in the last decade and a half (or at least as long as Zidane was around), very much unlike what they'd been in the past. I wouldn't really call that "bucking the trend".

Don't pretend as if there's a miraculous world of difference. Recent history has shown that apart from Brazil and Argentina, many WC's look suspiciously like EC's.

If Spain was good enough to win the euro, they're without a doubt good enough to win the WC. They'll possibly get stronger opposition from Germany, Italy and England than they will from Argentina or any other non-European side other than Brazil.

No connection cos one has a 44 years difference compared to one 4 years ago.

France only won a WC cos it was at home, same with England. Yes bucking the trend still.

Yes so similar. Please remind me how many of these Euro winning country have won a WC. Greece, Denmark, Netherlands, Czechslovokia, Soviet Union and Spain. Italy's one and only win was in 68 and England has never won a Euro.

If Spain was good enough to win the euro, they're without a doubt good enough to win the WC.
Again using that logic Greece should have been right up there last WC.
No doubt Spain are very good but winning the last euro means less than winning the last WC, in terms of chances at this WC.

You idiot..
Excuse but Whats wrong with what I wrote?
I might have worded it badly, teams that have won the WC in past are more likely to win it again. Recent WC history is more significant than recent Euro history in winning this tournament.
You're the idiot if you believe otherwise.

because no team has won it twice in a row since 1962?

what happened four years ago doesn't mean dick. completely different teams to then, most of that Italian team isn't even at this World Cup. not to mention the recent trend of defending champions stinking it up at World Cup's.

Spain are a rightful favourite for the World Cup.

What are you talking about? Spain is favourite cos there a good side but winning Euro means very little in this tournament. Winning the last WC is more significant.

If you are talking about mistakes, you the guy that said the WC is no place to try new players out.

Not my point.
If winning 4 years back means dick then winning the last Euro means even less.

you don't even know what your point is.

This thread is good.

I can't wait to bump this when Spain win and Italy get knocked out in the round of 16.
Good for you.
Never said Italy would win it, just they have nothing to fear. By all rights Spain should be biger favourites than Italy.
What if Spain will choke again?
I'll eat my words if and when Spain win it.

:confused::confused::confused:

That doesn't make sense.

I don't know what your on about here either. Which player has proved me wrong? Which player did I say shouldn't be there?

P.S. Learn how to write Ernie. You're never going to get your point across when no one understands your posts.:thumbsu:

Nobody is arguing that mate, all we're arguing is your point that winning the World Cup FOUR years ago is relevant now..

it's not.
