Gun control is not working.

It seems like every day now we hear of people being shot at, and killed, or businesses and homes struck in a drive-by.

CRIMINALS are still getting guns, and using them, almost care-free. Yet what was gun control supposed to do? Oh yeah, we forgot. What has it done?

All it has done is lawfully hog-tie the good people, the innocents - and allow those already in possession of a gun or able to obtain a gun - to roam free, as if the country is their buffet line.

And Australia is just that now, a buffet line.

In fact, in comparison to elsewhere with our population without our gun control, our gun crime is one of the worst.

Only it's the criminals, who do not care for the law, that are given the leg up. It's only those willing to break the law that have no care for it. They are the kings in Australia.

You often hear quotes like the following from police references... "a gun is not for self-defense"

And yet in a society very much still full of them, in the hands of the reckless, they use guns to do what... spread vegemite on bread?

For self-defense.

Yeah, let's be America instead and have constant school and mall shootings!

Notice how America is the only one brought up as an example.

Despite having 320 million people, and having diversities in society that our country may never comprehend, let alone endure.

What about Switzerland? How come no one ever says Switzerland? Or Finland?

Because it doesn't pander to the scare mentality - the same mentality everyone's brainwashed by despite contradictions on the news.

Ah, that's what you were fishing for? Why didn't you just say 'why aren't we like Switzerland?'. The conversation still wouldn't have gone very far though.

You live in Canada.

How come no one says Canada?

33 million people, with a gun mantra that spits in the face of ours.

Oh, but no. Ironically... it's always the America references.

P.S - I'm assuming you actually live in Canada and that you know how different it's take on guns is to ours.

People do compare to Canada. I believe Michael Moore did just that. Laws here are much closer to Australia than the US.

Laws in Canada are closer to the U.S than Australia.

You don't sound like someone who actually lives in Canada, you sound like an uninformed person with an agenda.

But we cannot reference Canada! They don't have 320 million people, they have a population like ours! Level of diversity like ours! And they're doing so well!

Only say America! Pander to the narrow minded scare mentality!

The rate of fire-arm related deaths in Canada is over double what it is in Australia.

Where are you going with this?

Yeah, this has nothing to do with population, immigration, the lack of an alternative, criminal on criminal crime, or teen suicide.

Fire-arm related deaths will happen regardless, gun control or no gun control.

Any deaths that do not seem to happen involving a gun, something else is used.

Murders involving cars triple every decade. (ban them!)

The only difference is that in Canada, good people are able to protect themselves. Criminals do not have a monopoly in Canada as they do in Australia.

It is obvious that gun crime on the innocents in Australia is rising, the situation has not taken the guns off the criminals, and has not rested those of good will with assurance. Tell them that when they wait 40 minutes for help after being shot at.

Gun control is not working, and there needs to be a review.

I wasn't going to reply. But my thoughts exactly!

Apparently I posted on a Footy forum as a Canadian resident for a few years as art of my agenda to keep Australian gun laws the same because I was unfortunately uninformed of said laws in Canada. Busted ;)

It was an ironic reply that had nothing to do with your actual residence, it was an implication that you're an idiot.

I was right.

Again.. source -

Also, if there is an increase of reporting gun crime on the daily news, does that actually correlate with an increase in gun related crime?

Come back to us when you have some data :thumbsu:

Saw your pic of some Canadian rifles there. Are you aware of the handgun laws? Or the rate of shootings? Vancouver is almost half the size of Melbourne but I'd be surprised if we didn't have more gun crime.

Source please

Yep, the things that make front page news once a month here don't even make page 25 in the New York Times.

Chris Lane was shot in America, and he was front page news hear for days.

Are you implying that all of the fire-arms in that picture are rifles?

Do you even know anything about guns?

Why are you even in this thread? You don't even know what's going on in Australia, or Canada. You're literally clueless...

And you forfeited your ability to talk of Australian society as soon as you set foot on Canadian land as a resident. Harsh but true, let go already. You're Canadian now, and quite the ill-informed one at that.

Errr, do you know what what firearm-related death rate means?

Australia 1.06 per 100,000 people
Canada 2.38 per 100,000 people

Australia 23m people
Canada 35m people

Australia <250 gun deaths per year
Canada >800 gun deaths per year

Fire-arm related deaths will happen regardless, gun control or no gun control.

Smoking related deaths will happen regardless of laws restricting the sale of cigarettes.
Heroin overdoses will happen regardless of the legal status of the drug.
People will still die in car crashes from not wearing seatbelts despite seatbelts being a mandatory safety requirement for decades, campaigns to encourage their use and penalties for non-use...

I repeat, where are you going with this?
