Gunston Trade Done

So our first pick is now No. 53!!!?

In a draft that does not run deep and a bevy of early picks by GWS, I say the result of a talented footballer joing the Hawks is decent. The only way that this trade fails is if Gunston turns out to be a flop, which I doubt. Nurtured through the SANFL where he won a premiership and started to show a bit near the end of 2011. Someone who kicks a bag of goals has to have some X factor even if the opposition happened to be the Tigers. I believe the HAwks are not yet done this week and may try to trade for a pick prior to 53.:thumbsu:

Re: I therefore nickname you, young Jack......

Can see the banner now at the Adelaide game 'Weve got the Jack'

or song Weve got the Jack,Jack,Jack......

Yeah... I wouldn't bring a banner about Gunston to Adelaide any time in the next 10 years. ;)

Beware of false dawns everyone. This kid may turn out to be a very good player, but let's not have him winning games of footy off his own boot just yet. At this stage, he's not better or worse than Jack Watts, or Tom Hawkins at the same age, and we know what pressure is on those guys.

There are plenty on this board that are quick to dismiss Ozzy from our forwardline too. He is hands down the toughest guy in our front six at the minute, and some of the jobs he did this year were superb. Breust may be able to kick goals, but his mongrel, courage and overall attack on the ball / man are questionable at this early stage in his career.

I'd also be wary of another player with "X Factor" in the forwardline. The more X Factor, the less structure and more they just get in each others way.

Yep, all this time Pelchen was just a front for the players.
Forget about List management, it was just good policy, totally outside of and independent of the management of Pelchen.

Yeah, ha ha!

The excercise smells exactly like something a management/org consulting group like leading teams would sell as part of its practical player empowerment toolset @TM and would have nothing whatsoever to do with Pelchon.

Anyway who ever thought of it deserves the kudos even though Evans did not credit originator of this idea.

Regardless of whether or not Pelchon was the greatest thing since sliced eggs, the club cast their judgement on "Pelcho the Magnificent", the world's greatest trader and recruiter and inventor Total Player Payment theory, the most significant contribution to the canon of operations research this century, when the club was perfectly happy:

i. to push him aside to let Wright run recruitment and trading

ii. to give him the flick last year and let him walk out of the club with all of his brilliant IP and groundbreaking ideas?

Re: I therefore nickname you, young Jack......

Apparently you don't know what 'the jack' means.

I wouldn't refer to any of our players like that...

Has to be Norm.

Different context of course mOzza. My angle designed to annoy the Crows (totally separate to contracting this nasty little infection).

Hopefully he has a great career and no-one can catch him.:p

Re: I therefore nickname you, young Jack......

Has anyone seen Brenton Sandersons tweets about Jack, abit of sour grapes. And stating that jack will regret his decision in 5 years time. Very interesting

Re: I therefore nickname you, young Jack......

Quote from Jack:

''I think the main thing was the versatility that hopefully I can bring to the club,'' he said. ''I'll probably start out with what I've been doing for the past few years in playing that third tall role and get a few more pre-seasons under my belt where I can put weight on and build my strength and hopefully move up to a wing or on-ball in a couple of years.

''But I think the forward line at the moment is where I'll play most of my footy.''

That is not Brenton Sanderson's Twitter account according to what I've heard. It's a fake.

Imagine the crap this kid's going to cop when he goes back to play at AAMI. He'd better dress up like a gridiron player...

Re: I therefore nickname you, young Jack......

I hate this. Still upset over Jack and I want to hate him...... dammit.

He is a skinny 20 yo who is no certainty to make it in AFL footy. And even if he really has the talent, who is to say that injury wont cut him down?

Players from interstate will always have the go home factor.

We lost Jarman, Hall and Robram to you guys in the 90's on this basis and our compensation was absolutely one tenth of naff all. And let us not forget that two of them were friggin' superstars. But that is life and we chopped sweet without all of the hysterical youtube "pissing their panties" drivel that your more cretinous fans see fit to indulge in.

In similar vein we lost McPharlin to Freo for SFA in the Croad trade.

There is always a flight risk for interstate recruits so if your psychologists did not indentfy this risk with Gunston then CAVEAT EMPTOR, get better psychologists, and improve your risk managemetn strategies.

After all we obviated the flight risk for Buddy when we recruited him when we brought his family over with him and settled them in Melbourne, so there was no home in WA to return to. :D

Wait what?

Just read on afl.com.au that Tom Gillies from Geelong wants to be traded to Hawthorn. Man arent we the flavour of the month....

Maybe its because they all know that we are the team to beat in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016...:D

I reckon we could land one B.J. Goddard the way we are going.....

Re: I therefore nickname you, young Jack......

Wait what?

They would not have given us pick one for McPharlin alone.

Freo: pick 1, pick 20, pick 36

for

Hawthorn: Croad and McPharlin

Given that

i. McPharlin had declared his intention to walk and was going home regardless of whatever we did and being a second year player (drafted in 1999) he would have been uncontracted.

and

ii. Freo notionally had first pick in the 2002 pre-season draft that year being the wooden spooners

then us packaging him up in the deal added little value to Freo as they could have snapped him up for nicks in the pre-season draft.

Hence us packaging him gave us very little additional leverage in the deal other than that they got to keep their PSD pick which they did not bother to use that year anyway!

So us saying to Freo give us a high pick for McPharlin would have had them falling on the floor in fits of laughter. Afterall we got him at pick ten and he was probably worth a bit more than that after two years in the system and not breaking down.

That we got and pick 20 and 36 thrown in is amazing given the McPharlin's contribution to the deal was negligible.
