Re: guy o'keefe training with the cats??

Main sledge on him was his speed, or lack of and not working hard enough. There's a thread on the Dogs board on him you can go through. I think he finished top 5 in Willi b+f and had a very good year in the VFL.

Yep half forward I think. From what I've read he has quite good skills, but doesn't really have the motor to play in the midfeild

I recall seeing him on draft day a few years back with a mullet... First impression not good!

I'm very annoyed the Bulldogs got rid of him. Had a very good consistant year for Williamstown and wasn't played a single time, even when he should have. I don't usually like wishing against the Dogs but in this case, I hope O'Keefe one day dominates against us and makes us regret sending him off.

He could be a real steal as a delisted player. Not very fast but has good skills, good mark, finds the ball, can definitely influence the result of a game. He's a midfield/forward type player. At most, he might be rookied by you (Not sure about being drafted considering he couldn't crack a game with us)

Sort sounds like Prismall. If he has that sort of skill he could be handy get in a flat draft

There's a reason why they let him go.
He doesn't behave off the field, and it's fair to say he likes the nightlife. I'd be very disappointed if we got him.

Like the night life , sounds a bit Lingy and few of the other a couple of years ago. Obviously there is a line , but Im not against give someone another chance.

Its part of the cycle we now find ourselves in , a bit similar to the mid 90's when we had been in the finals/Gf's for several seasons and we had to start looking for bargain 2nd chance players. Sanderson, McGrath , Sholl all from other clubs and become good servants for us. Even Brisbane did the sam e thing with Pike

It get down to if he wants to knuckle down or party on. If he wants the latter he won't last long here either.

He crosses the line.
It'd be much wiser getting an 18 year old, or Pods IMO.

It doesn't hurt us to let him train over pre-season. If he's worth a crack, I'm confident that the club will do the right thing by us. After all, three consecutive grand finals for two premierships shows that someone at Kardinia Park knows what they are doing...

sorry, but i hate to be caught up in the rumour and innuendo surrounding players. partly because by the time these rumours get to us they've probably been twisted, filtered and exagerated, and partly because if these guys are put in the right environment then i think they're capable of coming good.

(having said that, i've never heard of the kid)

but whether it's guy o'keefe or mitch thorpe, if guys are available and have the talent then they're at least worth looking at and talking to. if they can convince the club they're willing and able to put in the effort on and off the field then draft them. if they step out of line off the field then fine/suspend/punish them. and if they're not pulling their weight ON the field then

we're also quick to criticise, but how many of the guys on this forum were doing dumb shit well into their late 20's? the kind of dumb shit that a 19 year old at an AFL club is held up and publically crucified for ...

The strange thing I see about the Guy O'keefe
situation is that although the Western Bulldogs
coaching staff didn't rate him or his attitute,
the Williamstown coaches placed him 4th in the
Willi B&F and gave him the Coaches Award.
He was consistantly in the best players all year
at Willi but players with worse form got games
with the Dogs many times.
If there are question marks over SJ's ankle, might
be a good idea to pick up GOK. I don't think you
will get him as a rookie. Can't see GC not picking
him. Scott Clayton drafted him at the Dogs in the
first place.

Hi guys

Guy O'Keefe is an interesting player, from some people in the know, he did not work hard enough, is not fit enough to play AFL footy, and would get mauled at senior level due to his frame. Others though seem to think that he was delisted as he did not see eye to eye with Rodney Eade.

As some posters have alluded to, he was placed 4th in the best & fairest as a second year player, managed to play 20 games and kick 24 goals, was placed in the best in 12 of his games and (from the VFL website who predicted Sewll 1st, Barlow 2nd) that O'Keefe would of finished 4th in the J.J Liston (I dont think he actually did, but people in the know on the VFL website had him finishing there).

O'Keefe is a hard at it half forward inside midfielder, from the games I watched him this year he did tend to just throw it onto his boot a little bit too often and not lower his eyes and look for a shorter option. His goal kicking prowess though, cannot be underestimated. He kicked 5 goals in one game against Collingwood VFL and was clearly the best player on the ground.

I for one am a little bit dumbfounded as to why they would of delisted young Guy, as an Essendon supporter though, I would really like him at Windy Hill, but think that he will get picked up elsewhere (obviously Geelong).

Conflicting reports from various sources about whether he is training with us or not. Especially with the quote from the article - "(I’m) just taking it easy for now, spending some time at home, but (I will) probably get into a pre-season somewhere, where I don’t know yet." The article is dated Nov 2., so I suppose we could have contacted him after he gave the interview.

I think that's refering to players who've played senior footy, not players like O'Keefe who've been on a senior list but haven't played a senior game.

Yeah, I thought I read on the AFL site both O'Keefes were training with us.
