Haddin

You let a guy play because he was next in line, rater then the best keeper available and this is what happens. He plays as if he knows he isn't going to be dropped. Every test he has played for Australia the last 12 months has been a mistake, there are younger better options out there and he should not be in the side any longer.

But you watch, a bowler will be dropped for last night performance.
Johnson was rubbish, I missed most of Siddle's spell, but considering Watson/Harris cleaned them up, maybe a bowler should be dropped - as well as Haddin.

Not saying a bowler shouldn't be dropped, but it annoys me no end that the last 12 months after a bad performance, changes are made to the bowlers while the batting order remains unchanged. There has to be changes to the batting, but there wont be.

Me too, although is that allowed? Does anyone know if there's a rule forcing you to chose from your touring party first in a situation like this? Obviously if Haddin was injured then it's no probs, fly out another keeper, but if it's just an issue of form then doesn't that come down to the touring party you chose?

Don't think I've ever seen a rule where you can't do it outside of the big tournaments where you have to name a fixed number of players.

Haddin's Test career has been good, but it's certainly not now- same with Ponting. The selectors need to stop living in the past and (I know it's been said, but) players have to picked on form, not reputation.

Always been a fan of his and up until World Cup did a pretty damn good job for Australia. Not the best we've had (but who'd want to be following Gilchrist into the keepers role) but pretty good.

His performances have plumetted post-world cup. He's been terrible and last night was a disgraceful shot. Time to go. Bring in Matty Wade.

In fact Marsh being injured makes it possible to call in Wade, Khawaja in for Marsh, drop Haddin.

Haddin's time is up i agree, but id keep Punter a while longer until we have a few spots locked down a bit better. Such as the keeper and opening bat. Marsh looks good for a higher order spot but is injured. Too many spots in doubt to replace Punter yet imo and yeah then its him and/or Hussey depending on forum.

Ponting is showing we dropped the wrong 35 year old. Was looking at his figures. first 110 tests (After the 2007 SCG test where we'd won 5-0) he averages 59.3. Has averaged 40 since then. You break it down into smaller blocks of tests and he has gotten worse and worse. He's on a long term decline.

In a way I feel sorry for him because he often is just trying to play in a way that was always successful for him and made him such a great batsmen. On the other hand, he's shown know willingness to adjust his game. At all. He tries to bat as if he was 30. But his reactions are not as quick, which is why he just gets himself out. Trying to hook early, trying to belt the ball. And it'll have to be his downfall soon, cant keep carrying him based on his ability four years ago.

I didnt see the dismissal last night and watched it on youtube. Thought it must have been a similar shot to hussey's (which was pretty bad for first ball whch he should have left) but for Haddin to charge the bowler and get an edge with a terrible shot is beyond beleif at 6-21.

They wont drop him yet as Paine is next in line. I doubt they would promote Wade as they want Paine as the next wicketkeeper and promoting wade while paine is out injured would make things confusing.

I would expect Paine to be keeping by the indian series if Haddin's form continues. I wouldnt expect Paine to be match fit and batting well enough for the NZ series. So haddin will keep his spot for now.

I reckon Wade is a great player and deserves a crack but i think the selectors want Paine and dont want to muddy the waters by promoting Wade and wade being successful.

With reference to what ROOstar and BomberBears said, it really was a joke that Ponting, who hasn't made a test ton for 2 years (and that one came when he was in a big slump and was lucky to be dropped, on zero, in that innings) kept his spot, while Katich, who had been making piles of runs, got the ass. Katich was the one to keep in there and be the backbone of our innings, while the younger ones got their footing, not Ponting, who is just showing them how to struggle and get out early. At least Punter's supposed to be good behind the scenes, though.

Is there a way in which we can play with ten in the next Test and just enforce the 'Automatic Wikkie' rule?

Wouldn't score many runs (unless you incorporate Last-Man's Tucker), but the keeping would be improved.

As poor as Haddin has been recently, this is just silly. Haddin was easily the best keeper available when Gilly retired

I always thought Paine should have been brought in straight away, start to get some youth in, plus with Haddins bye count over the years if he was our best option, I guess that explains why we struggle so much.

It always disappointed me that Gilchrist called Haddin before officially announcing the retirement and said the job is his. Didn't know Gilchrist could make that call, and it explains why Australian Cricket is where it is at the moment.

I agree that this is likely to happen if Hildich and co are still in charge (how much longer do we endure them?) but I don't agree with it. This is the perfect time to throw Wade in there and see what he brings. They have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
If he does well, that's fantastic, because all want is someone there to do well and if he doesn't, then all they have to do is bring Paine in, when he's fully fit and in form again. All it takes is a bit of balls, which is what they currently lack, big-time.

Graham Manou retired at the wrong time otherwise he would be the next keeper in line.

I also rated him as a better player then Haddin.

Matthew Wade should be on the next plane to South Africa.
Haddin is a dead set disgrace, not completely the same but he scores 100 and 80 last match against Tasmania both under pressure and the 80 was when he came in at 3/10.
As far as keeping ability he well ahead of Haddin.

you can't defend someone jumping down the pitch to slog a good length ball when the team was 5 for nothing

Me and my mate were livid with Siddle for doing the same thing. No excuse for it. Sure he'd made double figures and we were unlikely to make much more, but Siddle had no business dancing down the pitch. Lucky he got off with some weird hotspot technicality with it being "out of range".

I've been a fan of his in the past, but this Test should signal the end of his career.

The Selectors needs to make a statement about the type of cricket our side needs to play - throwing your wicket away twice with moronic shots, when your team is in trouble, is unforgivable.

Guys like Martin were dropped for for less - he's got to go.

He has to go now, send Wade over there for next test

Undisciplined cowboy, incapable of placing a value on his wicket, and an average keeper.

Let's see if the new selectors have got any balls. If they do, Haddin should be out of the side for good.
