mentioned it before, but No chance Ratts comes to us

A club with a history of knifing coaches - FFS we want to knife the current one for this bloke! - will not inspire him with confidence of job security after how Carlton treated him. IMO he'd be hesitant to come to any club that has a knifing history

So we are doomed?!

pretty much

either get someone of Clarko's ilk or stick with Dimma

FWIW i think he's missing a lack of good assistants around him, there's only so much the senior coach can do himself
Doesn't he pick them?

We used to have good assistants, Campbell and Leppitsch

I don't bye your arguement. Richmond has been very good to our coaches since frawley giving Mr Plough a five year deal, which in the end he turned out to be a fraud and we had no choice but to let him go, how many chances do ya get? He wasnt knifed he hung himself. Hardwick has had everyones support and unfortunately for us and him he hasn't broken through in finals. Ratten would take comfort that he has coached finals wins. And if we gave him 6 years like Dimma gee thats a long time to get it right. And finally nobody wants to knife Dimma he's just hanging himself like Malthouse last year.

we have been good to our coaches yet the Perception still exists, and its that Perception that ultimately costs us and has cost us since before i was born!

Ill restate my opinion on the coach once more. I will back him in so long as there is no better alternative, if all those in the #sackdimma camp want me to take them seriously then they need to provide alternatives to Dimma other than "Anyone" and i'd side with them. All the melting over the coach does nothing

So we are doomed?!
We've had 3 coaches in 16 years and not much to show for it.
How long should a coach get? I think spud, plough and Dimma have had a long time
John Northey took Richmond to a preliminary final in 2 years then got sacked.
I think we've gone from overreacting to reacting to slow.

Players who can't kick=
Hunt
Townsend
Moore

Players who are average kicks at best=
McIntosh
C Ellis
B Ellis

Players who can kick but can't do anything else:
Lennon
C ellis is harsh, he actually has a really good kick it just isnt showing.

There's this arrogant, slovenly, red-faced, hunchbacked carlton supporter at my work who said to me a couple of years ago that bringing in recycled players was a short cut and it would cost us in the long run. "You've just gotta play the kids and be patient", he said. Absolutely kills me that he was right. I get this sick churning feeling deep in my guts when I think about it.

Northey didn't get sacked he left, with a year to run on his contract.

I agree, I dont want us to sack hardwick and end up with a dud. We'll need a better alternative before we sack him.

My recollection was that he wanted the assurance of a second year. Understandable given our track record with coaches turnover during that era. When he didn't get it, he walked. The coaches that followed him didn't exactly cover themselves in glory but, to give them their due, the Club hardly helped them either. Also understandable given that the Club was seriously broke.

unfortunately, i end up being branded a DH kool-aid drinker if i have that view. Shock horror that I don't want to just destroy the club in order to get rid of something im not happy with!

It's a tough one because I dont really like the game style or what Hardwick is doing at the moment. So I really don't know what the best situation is now especially because we gave him a 2 year contract.

$500,000 a year might make him think otherwise.

We can pay out his contract and move on, not ideal but it can be done, we dont k ow what get out of jail clauses we have either.

Again, I would only do this if we have a Better coach in waiting (what a weasely little word Better is)

I understand what he's doing and why, and I believe its ambitious and absolutely necessary for us to move forward. Everyone wants him to take risks and when he does, there's melts as it isnt paying off instantly
