From Harry's Twitter:

Draftee Ben Sinclair showed a lot of talent on the track today! Hes one to watch

This is not the 1st time he has gave Sinclair a Rev Up.

Has anyone notice anything at Training about him?

We will see how good a Talent Spotter Harry is with this

I genuinely rate StClaire. Very solid prospect.

Could be used many ways up front and maybe even plugged down back from time to time.

Needs to work on his kicking. Not as bad as Barham, but still way below AFL level.

I think his Biggest Problem is that he is Super Skinny and I think he not played much footy. Only played 4 TAC Cup Games

So are you disagreeing Dave? Were you at training? Did you see his kicking?

He wasn't super skinny today at training. He was lean, but super skinny is not how I would describe him after seeing him up close.

I am not Disagreeing at all - Have not see him play yet.

So you are saying Hine Drafted a Bad Kick?

I be down there on Friday

Nah mate, he played most Vic Metro games and had APS commitments which take precedence over TAC Cup. He was playing as much footy as everyone else last season.

As for his kicking, it isn't the best but it is still pretty good from what I've seen of it.

I would suggest that Hine has drafted several kicks that I would not classify as good - Barham, Rounds, Cook, Leigh Brown, and Corrie are those still on our list that aren't great kicks.

I'll take you to task there, sir. I've seen Barham, Cook, Brown & Corrie all deliver perfect passes and slot wonderful goals.

The problem is not "good" kicking, it's "consistent" kicking.

Part of being a good kick is doing it consistently. I could deliver some AFL standard passes if I had enough attempts.

Spot on, one of the most important parts of being a good kick is in the reliability. Being able to replicate it time and time again. Bad technique doesn't make you never able to get it just means your kicking is going to be bad inconsistant.

He is a fair way off yet, but will be a fair player.
Has some smarts about him. Reads the spread well, and is a genuine ball winner.
Pokes kicks too much at present.

I rate him as a long term prospect.

Certainly won't be AFL proof till he puts on big kilos. And as mentioned by others needs to improve his kicking.

I see him as a player (like Barham) who I think can make it. With the trend of modern day footy there is an increasing emphasis on speed and explosiveness which both have in abundance. Add in his ball winning and reading abilities Sinclair could well prove to be a really nice find.

It would not be a shock at all if 3-4 years down the track they played on opposite wings.

hope he is nothing like barham!

Interesting to see Harry also said on one of his question answering sprees on facebook that he said Goldy has stepped up considerably and he thinks he will play every game this year.

Agree he is a long term prospect because of how skinny is and skills still need some work

I like Goldy. I think that he'll be a very good player for us. but if you play him down back, who misses out? Try fitting him in the side with n. brown, maxy, obrien, shaw, toovey, presti, reid, buckley, macaffer, l brown and johnson. (blight and barham?).

plenty of depth back there.

also interesting to hear the MM said we would've taken sinclair at 30 if ball wasn't available

I don't believe that to be 100% true. I think it was more so a case of if Ball was taken Sinclair would have been "considered". At the time it wasn't expected that Troy Taylor would be available and my belief is that if he had not picked Ball he would have been our pick at 30. But I suggest that because neither were expected to make it to pick 30 that they expected Sinclair to be their backup choice had Ball not been available. *So in other words it sounds like Sinclair was 3rd in line for pick 30 interestingly*

Also interestingly Josh Thomas appeared 4th in line with many including myself thinking naturally he was 3rd in line after Ball and Taylor.

So considering we got picks 1, 3, 4 that we wanted it was basically a perfect draft for us all things considered. :thumbsu:

So yeah "don't worry about our future"

I don't think there's any reason to jump to the conclusion that we would have drafted Taylor.

There was never any tangible link between Collingwood and Taylor, aside from Collingwood's role in getting him to turn down the Gold Coast and enter the draft, but that's something that benefits every team, because it strengthens the draft pool, and isn't necessarily due to us wanting to draft him.

It's possible we wanted him, but personally, I don't see any reason to think he was higher in our pecking order. I do doubt that we really got our top two preferences that late in the draft - Though it is possible - I just don't necessarily think it was Taylor that we preferred.

Why I say that is because it was such an even draft class and from pick 30 onwards it was so even that you can get someone you like at pick 30 with a later pick (Sinclair + Thomas) in our case.

Taylor was expected to go top 20 or minimum top 25.

And also Josh Thomas appeared to be rising up the order with many liking him as a top 30 pick. Potentially 27 to Brisbane.

So I think if anything we have downplayed how good this draft actually has been for us considered expectations going in because our draft very easily could have looked like:

30: Ben Sinclair
62: Thomas Hunter
75: Jack Carter
85: Simon Buckley

Rookie:
18. Serhat Temel
34. Kyle Hartigan
47. Shea McNamara

Or something similiar.

Had things gone as many phantom drafts had predicted including my own this is probably how or close to how we would have drafted.

I agree with Vinnie; getting Taylor to enter the draft pool is to our benefit whether we're interested or not because he was on the radar of many clubs.

Although having said that, I think a skilled small-medium forward should be a priority in the next draft. A successor to Neon.

Our forwardline will be running dry over the years to come. Medhurst + Leon = 28. Then Didak is moving up into the midfield so would definately be keen on both a medium and a small forward.
