....just how hard it is to select who is actually in our best 22?

I was looking at the thread on the main board, and attempted to do a team of my own.

First time I tried I got down to the ruck division and realised I didn't have a spot in my midfield for Bartel (I had Wojack and Selwood on the wings, and Corey in the middle, with Gaz and Ling as rover and ruck rover).

Second time I tried it I forgot to put Gamble in a forward pocket.

Third time I had accidently left out Max Rooke.

Fourth time I tried I had left out Wojack.

Fifth time I tried I didn't have room for Kelly.

After that I gave up. No wonder there's so much debate on here about who is actually in our best 22. I'm sure if we all were to post who we thought was in our best 22, not only would we find players who we'd left out who could have strong claims to be in the best 22, but I'm pretty sure no two teams would be exactly identical. I'm just glad I'm not a selector.

FWIW, my best 22 would look something like this:

B: Harley Scarlett Hunt
HB: Milburn Taylor Mackie
C: Bartel Corey Selwood
HF: Chapman Mooney Stokes
F: S.Johnson Hawkins Gamble
Foll: Ottens Ling Ablett
Int: Blake Varcoe Kelly Rooke

Still couldn't find room for Wojak, and I'm sure there are probably other players who are probably stiff not to get a guernsey.

EDIT: Just noticed Enright hasn't got a spot in that side either.

I think it picks itself to be honest. Enright in for Varcoe, and into the 18, in your side and that's the best side. It's just that last spot in the forward line that is becoming a revolving door. It should stop with Gamble but I'm sure we'll see plenty of Varcoe and Byrnes as well.

EDIT: Just noticed Enright hasn't got a spot in that side either.

Enright for Milburn who replaces Kelly on the bench (and I'm a huuge Kelly fan btw, so that hurts!) and Wojo for Rooke I'm afraid because we need true pace out of the backline (or maybe not...). Console yourself with the fact that there will always be injuries/form issues. Don't be surprised to see Byrnes/Tenace get game time for the aforementioned pace issue. Our midfield is without par but not overly fast so we may need a bit of that.

I have to say I don't mind, and I am glad that I'm not given the task each week of selecting a team. There are usually a few blokes demanding a spot who may be unlucky to be left out. But that's why our depth is considered so good.

And those 2 blank spots can go between Hunt, Wojcinski, Byrnes (as much as I don't like him we do play better with him in the side), Varcoe and Gamble. With Hogan and Djerkurra starting to make cases.

Yeah I agree with your 22 sherrthecat, however I think Varcoe has a lot of talent and needs more games, probably at the expense of Rooke (unfortunately). Gamble is well ahead of Wojcinski in my opinion. Lonergan and Hawkins you could probably rotate depending on Hawkins' form.

Rooke I think could be in a bit of trouble this year - next in line would have to be Kelly and Hunt, however I think they deserve their spots and I can't see who would replace Hunt at the moment (I do rate Hunt). Obviously he's not a star player, but I think he is pretty solid, doesn't go missing as much as Wojcinski and is more accountable as a defender.

I can see Harley & Milburn in IF fit but by end season, have my doubts. Ottens could fit that catergory, same with Rooke. I like some midfield pace, so why not have the 2 paciest on the wings, & why not our best shot for goal at FF. We will be so hot we wont need a tagger, & can see Corey & Sellwood & Djerkurra taking on those roles if pushed. I'm a big Kelly fan so am not totally happy, & see huge potential for West. We should do this again at round 11!
