Have we got it wrong again?

PS I hate the haters that hate the haters that hate the haters on this site.

This is exactly why the post count diminishes significantly over summer blue. ;)

Although this is a mock thread, this was a half serious question :P what would people prefer? Because there is so much emphasis on how TALL a player is, but shouldn't there also be some consideration on how high they can reach?
I think screw in stops will be compulsory next year, anyone with moulded stops will be dropped immediately.

I'm guessing you were a big fan of the mosquito fleet 30yb?

They certainly brought our club some success !!

Bring back the mosquito fleet !!!!!! :thumbsu:

Your reference to our mosquito fleet brings up a point that has occurred to me in the last couple of months of how a premiership can be won without having a dominant goalkicking forward.

In our 1979 premiership year we kicked a then record of 2772 points during the home & away season, with Ken Sheldon leading our goalkicking with 53 goals for the season. At various stages during the season we lined up with Peter Brown, Peter McConville, Rod Galt & even for one game at the Lake Oval, Jezza at FF (I may have missed a couple of others).

Although the style of game has changed significantly since 1979, the concept of winning games still remains the same i.e. kicking more goals than your opposition. In 1979 we didn't rely on just one player to regularly kick our goals. It changed from week to week.

Among our mosquito fleet we had the aforementioned Sheldon, Ashman, Buckley, Keogh, Marcou, Johnston, Harmes, as well as our wingmen Young & Francis, who were all capable of kicking multiple goals in a game. Yet we also saw the likes of Brown (6.8 in one game), McConville, Galt & Maclure get among the goals as well. This to me should be what we are looking to achieve in 2010 & beyond.

In recent seasons, in various games, we have seen Betts & Waite kick 5 goals, Setanta, Wiggins, Murphy, Fisher & Walker kick 4 goals & even Kreuzer has twice kicked 3 goals in a game, from limited opportunities of playing forward. The opportunities will be there for these players, along with Hendo, Yaz, Garlett, Hammer, Robbo etc to get among the goals now that there won't be a particular forward demanding the ball everytime it gets within 60 metres of our goal. Given the right game plan, we are still capable of being a high scoring team without Fev at FF.

WH has completely ignored short people in both drafts. What of the plight of the little man? Why not draft Verne Troyer as an international rookie?

Also, how many women did WH draft this year?!? NONE. How many Afghanis where taken in this draft?!? NONE.

The evidence is stacking up... WH is size-ist, sexist and racist in his recruiting.

He did take a Tasmanian for the third year in a row :thumbsu::p
Token Tasmanians I like to call them. Used to throw us off the scent. One has permanent concussion, the next is mad as a hatter and lives in Hughes' attic and gets feed fish heads. Not sure what Davies' damage is yet. Hughes is diabolical.

Umm too late he has already played one champ

Mosquito fleet is a general term to describe smaller sized players. The smaller players today, Carlton's mosquito fleet, are taller because footballers, on average, are taller. The great small players of the seventies and eighties probably ranged in heights between 175 and 180cm. I think you have to lift the average when you are talking about a mosquito fleet these days. This is Carlton's fleet.

Armfield 181cm
Browne 180cm
Betts 173cm
Garlett 180cm
Joseph 180cm
Murphy 180cm
Robinson 185cm
Scotland 182cm
Simpson 182cm
Yarran 180cm
McLean 184cm
Kerr 184cm
Cachia 184cm

That's a baker's dozen on our list who are the smalls of today. I think we are well stocked.
