Clarkson starts on Wednesday. I expect posters from this thread to be holding a vigil at Arden St.

It’s around halloween so I’m sure the witch hunters will be able to find some pitchforks.

Still don't know how I feel about this. I guess it's only a month or so until the investigation is finished, and we'll have a better idea then if this was a good decision or not. Sonja and the club must be pretty confident.
He's not a current risk. No reason to be stood down before a finding. Shouldn't regret it whichever way the inquiry goes.

Yeah I imagine that's the conclusion Sonja and the board would have come to, along with Brisbane's board.

Confident/Desperate.

Too much at stake for North to not give him the job now.

Regardless of the outcome of the investigation - won’t matter either way.

How have you formed this view given the unresolved allegations?

Fair question. Vibe mainly. But assumedly there will be pretty clear instructions to not get involved in personal lives. I think there are very few reasons to stand someone down before an investigation. Sexual offender or still working with a potential victim Corruption that may be repeatable. Not many others.

Vibe is unconvincing. Very.

These situations can be managed but they need to be managed - do you think the clubs will have appropriate safeguarding processes in place? And as far as potential victims go - who are you talking about? Young indigenous people? Anybody whose career prospects can be heavily impacted by decisions made by these people? Footballers? I wouldn't be assuming there are clear instructions.

It needs to be remembered that this is not the case of a single isolated allegation or even a series of uniquely different allegations. There are multiple and the allegations taken as a whole construe a potential pattern of behaviour increasing the risks to the clubs. There is also a workplace safety investigation being conducted?

This is about the clubs managing their risks, not the assignment of guilt. Though it's possible they have decided the risk of further incidents is worth bearing if it increases their chances of winning football matches.

….because he’s not to be trusted?

Or there is a risk of being ‘misunderstood’ again?
Has he been charged with anything? Has there even actually been a formal complaint? I honestly don't see how a stand down could be anything other than voluntary. I'll be interested to see the backlash though.

As I've said previously, there is a quasi religious devotion to The Article and it's author, anyone who dares question it slightly is a sinner and heretic who must be cast out.

It's creepy and weird.
F**k that's rich.

You're the current holder of the title of BigFooty's Biggest Ever Melt - all because some guy was mean to someone on Twitter FFS!

Talk about religious devotion. I mean, shit man.

Vibe is very unconvincing. But he's not charged yet. Has there actually even a formal complaint yet? What exactly would he be stood down for.

Personally I think he should have done so voluntarily, as "no wrongdoing" and straight back to work is not going to be a good look if this goes the way I expect.

I don't think there will be backlash from anyone the club cares about until this is resolved one way or another.

We will have consulted everyone important to us at length. Especially our indigenous players and community.

Fagan back officially from tomorrow.

There doesn't need to be formal charges to stand someone down if there is a risk of harm. As I said they may have assessed this and have appropriate controls in place. But I'm not assuming anything. Is it only Clarkson going back to work or is Fagan going back also?

Are Brisbane so desperate for their messiah they'll risk everything too?

Is that going to be a good look if this goes they way you expect

This thread will be ground zero
Every school report I ever got said I need to think before I speak. I discovered pot and have never looked back.
Go have a dooby and chill out bud. Your way too invested.

Wow.

At last this thread has produced something amazing.

The bold new concept that treating people the same regardless of their race or the color of their skin is obviously racist.
Of course it can be.

It's not a new concept. Behaviour needs to be altered all the time.

Ever taken your shoes off at a Japanese person's house?

Or made fun of your Aussie mate's accent, but not your Indian mate's?

Or eaten with your right hand at an Arab's place?

Most people adjust their behaviour all the time to cater for cultural differences.

Achieving the same level of respect - can often mean behaving differently.

I've lived a lot in other countries and know of the need to adjust customs for cultural reasons, but not indigenous specific stuff. A lot of the eye contact that you're referencing in terms of Ingenous culture is seen similarly throughout Asia - same with the concept of whether it is interpreted as a suggestion rather than a command when it comes from the position of a person in power. Embarassingly, I know very little about indigenous culture - past or present. Probably even less than most, as I was overseas for much of the last 15 years when there has been a gradual shift towards understanding and accepting indigenous culture, rather than multiculturalism being viewed as people from different races all living like "Aussies", which was pretty much what most people meant when they talked about an ideal of multiculturalism - including during the time of the Hawthorn review.

Happy to have a beer with you and give you some tips ;)
