If its Maggie's family, the catch up with Marty & Maggie last ep doesn't ring true to me...if the Father in Law has something to do with it, I cant see Marty sitting there having a chow down cup of tea with the Ex...he would be yelling at her from the front lawn....surely?
Anyone else think that lawnmower man might be peripheral to all of this? I mean, associated with the guys in question, but not one of the main protagonists. Almost like the village idiot rather than something else.
Yes, he's not important enough to cover up in the big scheme. Perhaps he may have gone 'rogue' and started on his own rampage with the initial murder, but I doubt he's the big fish.
As for you comment about the 3 Rusts in the B&E scene, I think it was used to illustrate how scattered he was - it was at this point he mentioned the "knowing he may have lost his mind" comment and I think that was what that shit was trying to show. If you remember his drug flashback he had, it reminded me of that.
It's funny how you can search for symbolism, I watched episode 7 again last night and became infatuated with the brand of beer they're always drinking (Lone Star), what that could represent: solitary lawman, saviour of the wild west etc. Didn't start doing that kind of stuff with this show until I began overthinking after reading all the garbage on the Internet.
I mean, lawnmower man might even be harmless.
Yeah, I know why they did the shot, just felt it was out place.
In the last "inside the episode" Nic said something to the effect of "and we get a look at our killer" so i doubt he's completely harmless.I mean, lawnmower man might even be harmless.

I think Lawnmower Man is the trigger man, if you will. Very unlikely he's the brains behind the whole deal.

If there is to be a twist it would be that he is the Yellow King and the main man, he seems as though he is an inbred idiot, if he was the main guy it would be a twist (kind of like Primal Fear).
I doubt it though

Well according to this article, they chose Lone Star for the simple reason that the brand allowed them to (which kind of implies that other brands turned them down or something). Interestingly, they also reckon that the spiral in Marty's house was an accident and that no one noticed until it was too late. Also, Big Hug Mugs are going for up to $80 on ebay now.

Great article in the Guardian about the series.
I love this quote:
Viewers noticed. Theorizing, research and speculation reached a fever pitch, and then a minor character, last seen cutting grass way back in episode three, drawled “My family’s been here a long, lo-ong, time,” and more appeared. (Chekhov’s lawnmower? Don’t forget that Rust mows the Hart family lawn and the preacher drinks from a John Deere mug … )
Chekov's lawnmower... hahaha
